I feel the story introduced in Dawntrail shouldn't be another 10-year story. It should be a 6 year story with a trilogy of expansions that are lower stakes and a small calm before another big world ending threat.
Hot take I feel like if any of the scions died to introduce higher stakes it would be a bad decision in the long run. We have had 5 expansions now and we have grown along with these characters and I don’t think that growth can really go away without a large portion of the player base not being happy about it. Anyone else is fair game. Lyse, Rauban, Wuk Lamat if the storytelling is good can be killed off but the scions should be off limits.
My hot take is that the "10 year story" is just PR BS
We have been fighting the Ascians for 10 years yeah… But we got BREADCRUMBS of info about their goals or WHO they were and shit for 6 years before the back half lore dump in the 2nd half of SHB base story.
Like, before getting introduced to Emet Selch and finding out they the Ascians were the ones behind the empire….. what even was their plan outside of "Free Zodiark"??? Cause Calamities to free zodiark. Why do they want him free so bad? /shrug until you get to the end of the first half of the THIRD EXPANSION! And then their story is fully wrapped up in the first half of the next expansion….. Lore dump at the last boss levels of storytelling

Idk if it is a hot take, but holy molly PVP in FF14 is trash, worst pvp in any online MMORPG I have ever played. Wildly imbalanced, some classes can one shot, 1v1v1 is madness and is pure luck sometimes since sometimes both enemy teams just heavily focus yours while one of them is winning and should be attacked. Frontlines is horrible. As for the 1v1 teams fight for the crystal thing, its still bad due to the imbalanced classes pvp abilities. Also Bard as a class is bad in my opinion. The buffs are limited time and get outdone by food buffs, they deal less DMG then other classes and it feels like any other class would be better to bring then a bard. Also leveling one up just feels horrible.

Yeah I'm a gameplay-first kinda guy and I confirm I like Dawntrail way more than Endwalker so far. I still wish the story was better though.
All I feel after DT is that they need to replace some of the writers with some horror junkies, some extremely dark sided writers to balance out whatever this Mr Rogers energy is that is taking over. They really tried to be child friendly in a storyline including things like patricide, literal eugenics, soul eating and the loss of memory of loved ones from FF Type Zero which is arguably one of the darkest FF stories they could pull from. These things do not go together with "Friendship conquers everything!" dances to Smile

Hot take: I kinda wished the Scions had all died at the end of Endwalker so that their characters could've been spared from the narrative butchery that was Dawntrail.
Hot Take: DT isnt a "Vacation" for the WL its a full blown "step a side and sit on the side lines until we are needed" there was never any vacationing it was only pushing the WL aside so "Throw up" AKA wuk lamat could take the spot light
I liked wuk but i felt like they could have done a way better job in our connection to her and our role as a mentor, she should have been more time than just in the last of endwalker and zeros content be optional like eden was
I totally agree with the statement that dawntrail tries to do a lot of things but does not commit properly. Krile was teased time and again to be important, not just the earing and the only thing that she mattered for was a scene where she meets not even her parents, a clone without the sould and implanted memories, and being the scientist she is doesnt even mention that nor affects her.
But the thing i disliked more was that even if they were clones with recicled souls, we have chosen to kill even inocent children but the WoL, wuk, and the scions acted like if it was not that big of a deal to them because they had no alternative, when everytime there was a hard decision we have seen there react with frustration and in a more natural way.
We were forced to kill inocents and our newest friend . WIII happy music, smile was so jarring after how great was shadowbirngers dealing with how hard its to be the hero sometimes. Sorry for the lengthy text
I wish that Dawntrail focused more on Alexandria as a whole. I really, REALLY liked that part of the plot and wish it was coherently introduced earlier in the plot because it is a massive tone shift once you hit the second half of the expansion. I absolutely love the story there though.
Hot take – I believe Hythlodaeus will end up being evil. Hades = Truth, Hythlodaeus = Lies. (Legit I've been saying this ever since the first short story they were in came out)
Honestly, a Hildebrand expansion would be nice… Because the Warrior of Light actually does things in the Hildebrand quests :V
