  1. Ignoring the population size, I still feel like I've had more fun longterm in older MMORPGs like Ragnarok Online. I think the "best" game is subjective. I've quit all other MMORPGs not because FFXIV is the best, but because I want to play other games and I only have time for one MMORPG. FFXIV is a safe choice, and may very well be the best choice for modern day MMORPGs. There are definitely issues with it.

PvP: Despite so called achievements with Crystaline Conflict, I feel like it is still a slog… the forced, unlimited overtime really makes it suck. I hate Overwatch for this reason.
Battle System: Lets face it, the MMO hotkey battle system is outdated and needs to die. We should seriously be into action style MMORPG combat with proper targeting by now.
    Fetch Quests: …. fetch quests.
    Time Gates: …. time gates.
Character Customization: Character customization is really bad for FFXIV, I mean really REALLY basic.
Character Stat Customization: The game lacks any variability in builds, making everyone identical. It is probably the laziest way to go with game balance.
    Housing: Yeah we all know.
Instance Dungeons: Lets face it, instance dungeons suck, it is a detractor in the MMO genre, but it is especially bad in FFXIV. Every single FFXIV dungeon is the same dungeon with a reskin. Kill 3-4 groups of mobs and then kill a boss and rinse and repeat 3 more times for clear.

  2. I'll never stop being amazed at how relevant they made my WoL to me, when all I can do is fucking nod.🤣

It's the little things, man. The way you look at Haurchefant during that moment in The Vault. The way Fordola's character shifts after using her created Echo to see all the shit you've been through–all the friends you lost along the way. The looks and smiles you give people. FFXIV does so much with glances and gestures. They could teach a class on executing subtext.

XIV is special, because it doesn't try to be. It just wants to be fun, not get you strung out and addicted. If you want to be a badass looking hero, or a tiny frog dancing at an aetheryte, there are no limits except the ones you place on yourself.

XIV provides the freedom to just do whatever the fuck you find amusing. I wish more games would put emphasis on fun over the bottom line.

  3. 17:10 JRPGs that took "hundreds" of hours to complete? I've played and completed hundreds of JRPGs, I can't think of any that take that long, unless you want to do some ridiculously grindy side content or some optional, self inflicted, OCD completionist task. Even then… I can only think of one JRPG that would take hundreds ( Probably 400 total ) is… Star Ocean 4 100% trophies. So… what are you talking about guy? lol.

  4. SIDE Quest GIGI the Mamet, made me care what happened to it and seriously made me very sad as i cared very deeply. The stories that i have experienced from ARR Thru to EW helps me understand my chars story/journey. The SCIONS are desperately trying to save the world whilst the antagonist/zenos are trying to destroying it. It's ok to walk away and destress and play other games. Yoshi P have stated that and he's fine with it so am i. Just retstarted SWTOR and played it until i decided to go back to FFXIV.

  5. "Best", yet mailing items between characters isn't possible. "Oh, but you only need one character to play all classes" they say, the assumption being that one race is all you'd ever be interested in and ignoring that bag space doesn't exists for all the gear different classes require. Charging more to have two characters and then not facilitating mail interchange between them is fundamentally wrong.

  6. Stormblood gets a lot of shit but it was ARR that took me most of the games life to get through. I've owned the game since 1.0 and didn't even get halfway through ARR until around when Shadowbringers came out.

  7. There was a moment during Heavensward when Alphinaud made mention of everything we’d endured together before referring to me as “[his] friend.”

I believed it. I understand that Alphinaud is just a bundle of pixels in a video game, but I felt that.

  8. Hot take by someone playing a story based MMO, bitching about it being a story based MMO LOL. My hot take is that FF14 is not just the best MMO, but overall, had one of the best story lines of ANY game I have played, MMO or not. It is also one of the top FF games overall. What a turkey, didn't even get to the best of the best of the game. P.S. I need those pins lol. I too loved ARR, so everything else just got awesome for me from there lol.

  9. FF14 pvp really is God awful though. I'm sitting here doing 500 DPS to people with 60k health who also have a 15k instaheal.

You legitimately cannot 1v1 on certain classes in FF14. You don't put out enough burst to get a kill on your own.

  10. I started in 2014 and also dropped Stormblood in the Ruby Sea zone as I was just so bored. Didn’t return until Shadowbringers due to the hype but luckily the second half of Stormbringers was more tolerable and I really loved it by the post campaign story.

  11. i stopped playing when i reached Endwalker, i only play it for the story, LMAO. The one MAIN reason why people love FF14 and can enjoy it is that; Casual player can enjoy it and serious mmo player can also enjoy it.

Casual Player can easily pick up the game mechanic of FF14 because their tutorial for newbie, ESPECIALLY ppl who never played MMO before is very good, detailed and very hand-holding. They literary make u experience the beauty of dungeon raiding with so many players, its like making you LOOK like a pro player but u still have that stupid Green Sprout icon on top of your head.

Whereas the Serious MMo player can delve in deep into the Raid dungeons, the transmog, Gold Saucer mini games and the multiclass system.

  12. I started playing a few months ago and I've been amazed at how it will the average gamer something like a half year to get through the story.
It's incredibly gated and the part that everyone has to start out with and through is the worst content. The newest content is so incredibly better than what new players are welcomed by.

  13. Sorry but ahem. someone that ONLY did the MSQ since Stormblood can't even have a opinion about the majority of the game imo, thats just impossible, you only played like what? 20 percent of the entire game content.

  14. I loved ARR. It's what got me hooked. It planted a lot of great story seeds! The quest to help the sick, displaced Ala Mhigan that none of the Eorzeans would help was devastating! The twists and turns of the MSQ! And then in HW and STB they really build on those seeds they planted in ARR. I'm only in the middle of STB and I'm wondering how they're going to pick up on how they are going to pick up on those elements. They've been very consistent with the continuity of the story as they layer on these expansions. It's a really deep story and world!

  15. honestly, i do agree with the OP here when they say the story is VERY long winded. i started an alt since theres a bunch of downtime lately, and there is just too much unnecessary text for whats going on most of the time, at least outside of the MSQ.

  17. In terms of gameplay, yea, the game is ok…I have seen better. But that is the only thing that is ok about the game. The other things they are even worst then how WoW is. And trust me when I say….read this closely: don't… ask… me….. what…. other things are worst! I will really burn the game. I have had played the game for 3 years and I moved on. Why? Because of that thing I do not want to mention. And I am not afraid to mention it, but Zeppy (Zepla) comments section will be one ground for witch hunt.

  18. Black Desert Online looks good yes, but thats about all the game can offer on the MMORPG market. Poop PVP, PK is just high gear players ganking on low gear players for trying to get better gear etc. Also story doesnt really exist, as is tradition in korean mmorpgs
