What your Melee DPS Main says about You, FFXIV Jobs

Time for part two on our series of memes vs reality when it comes to the jobs of FFXIV! People seemed to really like the one I did on Tanks so I suppose I’ll keep this going and address the lore on all the others as well! Be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments bellow!

  1. I switched from Pugilist main to a Warrior main after I found out that Monk is too fluttery for my liking. However, I do enjoy Monk's party utility and defensive skill. Really wish there was a Brawler sub-class tho…

  2. What gave me a particular 'ooooh!' moment about Reaper was y'know the machina name Magitek Reaper. since, Reaper as a class was uttilized in armies up until the disovery of ceruleum and the name feels like a lil nod to ye olde days. Given just how far back your encounter with these war machina are, it is kind of fun to think about that it 'suddenly makes sense' in a way.

Out of all melees I'm smitten the most with Reaper. To think i originally said I'm not going to try. haha.

  3. I'm very excited with the prospect to dive deeper and learn the history and lessons for the ranged DPS classes and your interpretation as to why we might main them. I say as a ranged DPS main lol.

  4. Now look here you, DRG's have a very important and dangerous job. We're the strongest class in the game, being both DPS and Tank.

While we're up, we help you fell the enemy.

While we're down, WE, and only WE are the ONLY thing between the ENTIRE PLANET and you.

The world can deal 99.99*% of your health based on how far you fall, or if in combat, 100%! The world has Unlimited health, and can aggro anyone, at any time. Yet us DRG's hold it back, so the healers can focus on keeping everyone alive from the boss alone.

Without us, the world would be attacking you.

So remember that next time you laugh at a dragoon. They're making a greater sacrifice than the entire party by dying.

  5. I definitely play ninja for the playstyle, I played monk since ARR (Losing greaced lightning and attack speed, together with the patchwork fix to give a mechanic felt really bad), started raiding in EW and changed to reaper, and then changed to ninja because reaper was very boring. But I feel like it fits how I see my WOL, I'd totally see her pledging herself to a princess and her beliefs, so I don't mind living into the fantasy more. And it's definitely easier to live more into the ninja fantasy of it once I turned off damage numbers and ability effects.

  6. 8:40 My friend (SAM) always deals less damage than me (RPR) because he's always 4th on the enmity list. Don't ask how, and I know it's not his gear. Samurai just is that outclassed by Reaper because we can pop true north only when we need to do a burst attack.

  7. I suppose I'd have to say Reaper is currently my melee main at the moment. (Not true main though, that's WHM.) But Monk has been pretty fun so far as I level it up, so who knows, it may overtake it in time. The rest are alright, but just not as enjoyable mechanically for me. But as I'm slowly working them all up toward omni-90, will just have to see how they fair at the end. (or Omni-100 as who knows if I'll be done with that before the next expansion. I'm in no rush.)

  8. Stealing Monk's job aside, I think it's great Warrior is getting fist attacks as off-global cooldowns. I always thought that when you have an absolutely massive weapon that's slow to swing, throwing a quick punch or kick to keep your opponent off-balance between strikes makes sense. Which is also why I morn the loss of Dark Knight's ability to slap an opponent with a magically-charged backhand when their sword is still on the backswing. Instead their sword seems to weigh nothing now, as all their OGCDs involve swinging it FASTER.
As for the actual topic of this video, well you've given me cause to think about my favorite Melee classes. Do they line up with my WoL's goals? Should be a good thought exercise.

  9. Monk (Pugilist) main since Beta..
Its been a LONG road with a lot of people dissing monk for no RAtt, Once your stacks are up you have to get them back etc etc.
I remember in storm blood when I had to correct a person who said Fire Tackle was best… When 2 wind tackles could give you another GL they didn't even know that. That Riddle of Fire didn't affect your Auto Attack speed and other things that folks really weren't aware of.
Personally the only thing I miss about Monk is my aura of greased lightning, I had it since I turned monk and it was taken from me man.

  10. I learned melee DPSing as a MNK and I unlocked MNK simply for the punches and kicks. Nothing of the devotion to Rhalgr whatsoever. I knew it, I’m a PGL, not a MNK. XD Also, I thought most DRGs were killing themselves because they greed then fail to time their elusive jump correctly, they elusive jump off the stage accidentally, or because their jumps animation locked them. No—I myself died more often due to me using Jump like a gap closer forgetting that it returns me to my previous position.

  11. I'm a ninja main because I love dual dagger classes lol. Normally I play Rogue in RPGs, actually didn't realize that that class transitioned into NIN when I picked it. But it's a fun class with a good mix of utility, ranged, positionals, and the rotation is varied enough that it doesn't get boring.

  12. Hey. I feel like the Dragoon assessment spot on! Several times, the tnak has screwed up, died, and everything came for me. And I'd survive long enough for the healer to hard-cast a raise on the tank. And survive. Not an initiate at all! :3 And it also perfectly fit my Dragoon's story and background. <3
