FFXIV is a popular destination for WoW players these days, as Blizzard has sunk World of Warcraft to the arguable all-time lows in terms of stale and unengaging content, that drove even the most hardcore of us away from our favourite MMORPG of all time…
Is Final Fantasy 14 a worthy destination for a retired, fatigued and burnt out WoW player? I’d simply say – yes, it is – and would like to share my thoughts as well as my WoW story with you in this video, to explain where I came from and how FFXIV popped up on my radar.
Will I play Final Fantasy XIV as my main game now? I don’t know yet and it remains to be seen, but what’s quite certain is that FFXIV is definitely a great time investment and a change of scenery for anyone who spent years in World of Warcraft, and who is a bit over what Activision Blizzard has been doing to WoW lately in the VERY underwhelming Shadowlands expansion…

I recently made the same switch from WoW to FFXIV. If you give it a fair shake, it's so much better in my opinion. It starts a bit slow, but I think this is great in terms of attracting new players.
My biggest tip? Read absolutely everything. WoW has a plot you can dismiss with a click. FFXIV has foreshadowing and subtext.
awesome video, you answered all the questions I had in mind. I think ill give it a go!
I started playing FF last night and start is huge letdown for me. I want to do things not walk left and right and talk to people for 95% of the game. It is so annoying and slow. I'll continue giving it a chance but it is not that interesting so far.
Welcome! I have never been more attached emotionally to a story as with this game. Heavensward and every other expansion are the prize for going through the initial expansion, so make sure to target those MSQ quests ASAP.
Once you get to the Parting Glass quest, whoo boy.
Might see you around Aether o/
You can turn off newly acquired gear gear going directly into your armory chest as an option. It will go into regular inventory first instead. Great vid, welcome to FFXIV and props for going Conjurer right out of the gate!
most servers in wow have like 10 guilds clearing mythic…thats 300 people per server tops… thats nothing…not even 1 %…been like that since the begining…i dont understand tbh…the raids are kinda hard but the prob is getting people not the clearing the raids….fuck them i say…relying on normal players to make the guilds and lead hundreds of people and make them billions…lol…it WAS THE PEOPLE whi made them the millions by making the guilds if u think about it…anyone witha running guild should be payed if u ask me
It's funny to me that you considered the inventory system in FFXIV to require patience but must be cool with the one in Path of Exile. When for me it was the other way around, couldn't keep playing PoE because the tiny inventory gave me so much anxiety. I must have been a hamster in a previous life, lol.
This is just an aside but I'm going to forget if I don't say it now:
Right clicking an item will give you the item comparison option, as well as the try on option. Comparing rewards to your existing gear is very easy, even easier because item level is king over everything else 🙂
I play this game since 2013, I'm still not accustomed to lalafells and I think it's even worst now
Everyone saying the game picks up after ARR. Man this game is going to be amazing because I already love it so much and I'm only level 30
Been playing wow for 17 years, 👉🏿👈🏿🥺I got ffxiv but no friends or anyone to play with
Hating lalafells is perfectly okay, it's like all the gnome-punting jokes that happen in WoW.
don't let those lalafell scare you …. you might want to re-consider that. those people ARE scary.
welcome to FFXIV 🙂
Dear WOW players… get over your "No homo" bs, and enjoy the whacky FANTASY of a GOOD game!
It's ok. Your real friends will applaud your move
Watching these videos of new FFXIV players is just bringing me so much joy. I get to relive all the excitement I had when I first started the game. Welcome to Eorzea!
Legion was great. Different, yes. But i loved it personally. Maybe it was just cuz it was so much better than warloads, and had everyones favorite edgelords return with illidan it, but i enjoyed the game. At that time, other warloads, i loved wow and all it had done. Well, loved to hate at times, but i loved the game in general even if they did minor things i didnt like, understand or just questioned in general. Somehow, in killing sargeras tho, it felt like the game died with him.. i know he aint dead, but you know what im gettin at. Its been total and utter shit since then. From a former blizzard fan boy, it seemed that was when the game really began its deathroes, and the company seemed to mirror this. Ive abandoned all hope honestly. I still play, clinging to the memories of the past, but knowing those days are long gone… man, i just dont get why ion and the rest of the dev team have tanked the game like this… why they wont even listen to the people who play the game, and blizzards bills, after they see they blew it… why and what the actual fuck happened, ill prolly never really grasp.
I've been playing 14 since launch, and more so than any game out there, it gets better with time. The mechanics, characters, story, music (especially the music) gets better and better the further it goes. If you've liked what the game offered up to now, you'll be in for a treat should you stick with it.
Welcome to FFXIV, enjoy the ride. Glad to see many other former refugees from WoW trying it out and enjoying it. I stopped playing in WoD and then came back to WoW for Legion. Legion was great but since Shadowlands I'm now back on FFXIV where we get a patch every few months rather than 7 months apart. FFXIV is real value for money especially for new players with that most generous Free Trial.
Oh look.. another copy of the SAME video that's been posted 1000 times in the last month.
Yeah pretty sure this game is just objectively better than WoW
i'm a wow refugee looking for free company active discord having a hard time picking lalafel or mi'qote please please let me know. i want to play ff14
ps it's so scary i told my friend exactly what you said before i saw this words XD
I love this video! Good job!
there is no good pvp ;/ its only one reason i skip this mmo and stay with wow. u are from Russia ? (accent)
What is the simplest job to just level and enjoy the MSQ?
Hey Gyro, I installed FFXIV having not played it since it was Reborn. I'm really struggling to choose a job. For medical reasons I cannot handle complex rotations AND pay attention to fight mechanics. There doesn't seem to be any simple jobs like BM Hunter, Frost DK where you mash 3 abilities plus a couple of CD's and situationals. I don't care about raiding or dungeons.
i subbed to your channel! i also started playing ffxiv coming from wow, i started playing it during bfa because i was tired of WoW….i ended up falling in love, the story gets so damn good. i have loved all of it. But like you said, the biggest difference in this game and wow is that the community that plays FFXIV, loves this game. I think that says it all….
That's true I really feel like people play mainly for fun and not necessary rewards. As an example I wanted to unlock raid roulette and two people of my guild did 1 hour with me old he trials so I can unlock the roulette. They got nothing out of it. They just had fun doing the old trials. In wow you only do things for rewards. Always. There is nothing you only do for fun. Imo.
Too ugly and clunky for my liking.
no way to check gear against what you have equipped? just right click the gear in the quest dialog in select 'item comparison' you nerd
seriously, welcome to ff! joined recently after wow and am enjoying it too
I would recommend bellular, mrhappy1227, and meoni to get more in depth information about things. Naoki Yoshida is a great communicator and he makes sure that everyone in the community is up to speed, he actively supports community translations
People keep saying ARR is bad. Yet there's one WoW refugee after another already praising the game before even beating ARR. Hell, some of them praise it before even getting out of their starting city.
I just discovered your channel and I like that you come at it from a casual perspective. I quit WoW after Wrath. I tried GW2 , ESO, and FF 14 but only briefly. None of them gripped me. Last year I decided to try FF14 again and seriously devote some time to it since I bought the game. It took a bit of time and a few jobs to find the one I main (PLD) but FF feels to me like WoW did in 2007. Lots of new players. People are friendly. Lots to discover. It’s a very slow paced game but it gets so fun with the dungeons and trials.
I dont see this video as a rant but rather a balanced perspective, well done 👍
So many people swapping to ffxiv haha, step it up wow…
The Lalafell hate was real and it was hilarious.
It's a perfect time to start FF14, despite the game being around so long. The reason is because there is a huge influx of new players, and the heavy story driven experience, that requires you to play with others in group content (dungeons or raids), and having a huge pool of newbies to play with, you get to experience the content among fresh eyes as it was, without a team full of veteran players knowing everything. As for catching up, its quick due to the gear system, you can simply catch up on day 1 of turning level 80 by buying a set of crafter gear. This allows you to participate in end game content to upgrade gear.
I wonder how many instant converts ff14 would get if they just deleted lalafel haha
make sure to pick up a couple extra classes to distribute xp to because msq is going to give you a lot more than required for your level, especially if you have the road to 70 buff. You can pick up the quests using your main class, and swap to the other class while turning it in to get xp for that class, its pretty convenient. You'll have at least 2 classes leveled to 80 this way by the end.
What the hell are you saying?? Gnomes are glorious, splendid and amazing in every single way. 😡
Ok Gyro – I’ll try it. Watched your videos in a random order but I’ll try it.
People do be hating on Gnomes and Lalafels
Great, your hate feeds my powers
I feel like you should do an update after a month or 3 months. And things I wish I knew before starting FFXIV.
I tried FFXIV it I just personally didn’t like it. Going back to wow since 9.1 is coming out 😄
Welcome to 14.
But let me quote to "doesnt feel like a Job"
This could be misunderstood as everyone who Plays seriously with the Focus on Raidprogress is Not having Fun.
I quittet WoW for a while cause i hate the E-Sports-Focus with the need to run M+ every day.
I am now Happy in 14 but still focussing Raidprogress.
Its just two different Types of Players with a different Mindsetting.
Feeling Elitist Highend-Raiders also spread a Bad attitude as the Hardcorecasuals do with Statements like "You dont pay my sub" when you Trie to help them stopping hold back the whole Group
Wish you lots of Fun in 14
First of all, Welcome the 14. I'm a wow veteran as well. 13 years. I dont regret it at all, just as you say, Blizzard just stopped being about the gamers.
Never turn your back on a grinning Lalafel, back away slowly while maintaining eye contact.
I've seen a lot of WoW players talking about Lalafells like if WoW doesn't have gnomes XD
