  1. The natural progression "Let's see what this FFXIV is about, I guess" leads to "This game is a mess, and I'm confused, but this seems neat" and all of a sudden "Oh, help, I'm hopelessly addicted"

  2. You can turn down particle effects. Typically people will choose to show their effects and lower everyone else to important only.

Also, the story will continue to mostly be slow. And gets so much worse at A Realm Reborn’s post MSQ. But once you get through that and you get into Heavensward the story becomes much better and more streamlined. So just keep that in mind. The journey is worth it!

  3. God do I miss this game, I've played for many years and it was my home. Every other mmorpg I try I can't stick with because it's just nothing like FF. Watching video's about it makes me sad in a way, I quit because I've done everything I personally wanted to do. I also experienced social death 1 too many times where I am at a point that I just don't wanna deal with it anymore. I was thinking, should I make a new character and start fresh? But then I think about the amount of achievements, glamour, gear, mounts, minions, gill etc I collected and I feel like it will just not be as fun. I hate the friendlist system, the fact that I can't just delete people from there, rename and move to another server and just 'dissapear' makes it kinda impossible to return. (Some things happened that I just want to avoid). That being said though, I will always recommend people to try it out and enjoy it at their own pace. I remember being forced to rush the story so I could catch up with people to play with. Looking back, I feel a little robbed of that experience. I hope you will continue on your journey in FF14 and experience all the wonderful stories, the fun dungeons, trials, raids etc. I hope that I can have the confidence one day to return …

  4. The one thing I'll say is this…the dungeons are in service to the story…not the story to the dungeons. So the feeling of larger groups wont be felt until later in every expansion.

  5. You should really go into settings and turn down everyone else particle effects, I had this on for so long until I complained to a friend about healers in dungeons blinding the shit out of me and they were just like… why don’t you turn it off?…

  6. Regarding the woman sniffing out that you have a personal chocobo…it's mentioned several times in the lore going forward that chocobos absolutely REEK unless you're used to them. Apparently it's like a musky, manure-y smell, like a farm animal (which of course, they essentially are). So when a fresh, young, hot fire hydrant saunters into town stinking like a ranch-hand, it's easy to assume they've got a bo-bo.

  7. The way I like to think of the story before the first expansion is that it's your origin story. Like how a starting from the beginning Batman story has to go through the death of his parents, his training, setting up his gear, and the rough early stages of fully becoming Batman, ARR is the story of how we work our way up to becoming the Warrior of Light, getting to know our allies, working our way through the primals, learning how the world works, and saving our first nation. After we've got those basics down, then we get the bigger stories where we're already established as the hero.

  8. One of the things that struck me in FF14 group content was that the game isn't stingy about rewarding group play. I remember in classic WoW that "tagging" an enemy with the first hit would ensure that it's rewards went to you alone. If you killed a creature someone else was fighting, they would get reduced XP, if you tagged them before they could, they'd get no credit. Here, if you help someone kill a mob, you both get rewarded. Farming mobs for crafting materials is more effective in a group, since everyone has an equal chance of getting the drop, even if only one person is fighting it. I think it's one of the many little decisions about the game's mechanics that help reduce the toxicity of the player base.

  9. You are incredibly based for using the Tin Can armour, please keep using it for the rest of the play through(or at least using glamour to make your other armour look like the tin can armour)

Also, you are even more based for making Miraculous references

  10. Let me tell you about the Garlic Bread empire. They are proud people. They would rather kill themselves or risk dying out in the wild to preserve their knowledge of garlic bread recipes from the outside world (us savages… Who knows what we'll do their their recipes?). And don't get me started on the crown prince, who wants nothing to do with this garlic bread ideology and wants us to fight each other for that good bread to see who the superior baker is. The best baked garlic bread offers a person singular bliss. It's because there is cannabis and laced with MDMA in that bread.
