Casual WoW Vet here: what's an example of 'moling' in WoW?
"Eastern MMO content" does not translate well to Western MMO content. It makes Americans want to quit.
What happened to the "YoshiP says play other games" line the cultists parrot? This is sad.
I think he's just saying that they need to make the content hard to get, but they realize that people need to feel like its worth it a third of the way through. So if they want the content to take three weeks they need to make sure it feels rewarding after that first week.
IMHO, the content should feel rewarding right away or at least like I'm progressing right away.
My biggest complaint about the low-level experience in FFXIV is echoed in various ways by Zepla's comments (and the other ones in chat): Most jobs don't have their core mechanical identity by level 50, and certainly not before that.
What I really think the team should consider doing (and maybe they are doing with the eventual 8.0 rework) is have more of the core mechanics at lower levels but in a weaker/less-cool state. (I think this is also why Zepla's comment about liking the PVP ability sets feels accurate to me too – you get a full toolset that captures the mechanical vibe of the job, so the reduced number of abilities doesn't feel so lacking.)
Paladin is actually a good example of both what they could do and what they aren't doing. They have several abilities that upgrade in ways that are mechanically relevant beyond proccing another skill – the upgrades to Sheltron, Intervention, and Divine Veil all add healing at higher levels, which slightly changes how the abilities are used … but you still have weaker versions of the abilities later, so you can still use a bunch of them (esp. Sheltron) even when synced.
HOWEVER, Paladin's biggest issue for players is that its core mechanical identity – a tank which does some casting and has more group mitigation – isn't in the kit by level 50. (I choose level 50 because many roulettes – High-level dungeons, MSQ, Alliance Raids, Normal Raids – often sync players to 50. Also, since it's the end of ARR, that would also be a reasonable time to expect to understand the core mechanical identity.) Paladin doesn't get its offensive magic until level 64, and its main rotation spell Confiteor until level 80. What most players do (or don't) like about Paladin is its magic phase, and if they had some taste of that at level 50 (even just weak Holy Spirit) then players would be able to identify whether they liked the playstyle significantly earlier.
For jobs that I think actually do this well, look at Red Mage and Summoner. Both have their core identities early (RDM has its doublecast spells and melee finisher by level 50, and SMN has its core summons by lv22) and then everything is built off that. The rotations evolve naturally from there.
I don't think that all jobs need to be as consistent across different levels as RDM/SMN, but definitely having people know even vaguely what endgame might feel like earlier in the game would really help people find their primary jobs a lot better.
Yoshi-P !! Hey Get rid of the toxic players and I will stay… Simple.
Square Enix has always played it safe. So safe in fact that we've been buying essentially the same game with just different storylines for the past 20 years. They need to become more modernized and innovative if they hope to keep this game alive. They need to change their interface drastically. The current state of the game still feels outdated and the customization of the UI and visual tools are just super "meh". Adding more options such as 1-button PVP combos and a slew of other overhauls are a must. Hotbars are becoming bogged with skills to the point nothing feels streamlined. A job's main rotation should be able to be fit onto a single hotbar with successive hotbars being used to stow mitigation and buff abilities. There's just so many things and they just refuse to listen to their player base. Housing system is atrocious per the usual. Just a lot to improve for a game that has been live for a decade and all the player feedback in the world to make it better that falls on deaf ears.
Honestly I would like to see a WoL villain arc. A true villain arc to where we get betrayed by our friends and wuk lamat. I think it’s something we haven’t done before.
On top of more midcore content please. Bring back bozja content or maybe do another Monster Hunter trial but this time it’s like a bozja like zone.
FALL GUYS should be a permanent thing in ffxiv.
We need fun content and fun collab events. My house shouldn’t be the only thing I stay subbed for…
I've been playing about three and a half years and never did Eureka. I guess now is a good time to dive in.
They need to go back to the old patch schedule and release more casual content.
the Dawntrail slop and the level sync were the determents that actually led me to not want to play anymore. I cant
主线剧情太烂 玩法一成不变毫无新意 认识的人大部分都AFK了
What happened to our fun and exciting new adventure, discovering things and blazing a trail into the unknown world of Tural.
What happened…?
I can't really be bothered to stay subbed because no post-msq content outside raids and stuff which I don't like to do regularly and another factor is the fact that I can't even run the game on a mid-ranged laptop. There's no option to turn off the new visual effects or the hyper realistic rendering which sure is pretty nice looking but not at the cost of my fps.
I used to get like 35-40 fps in EW which is fine for me since I've never really played new games since the ps2 but now I'm lucky if my fps goes above 23. And that's on the lowest graphics settings and turning off movement physics and 3D rendering at lowest. In a game where the trials and bosses have faster aoe casts, that's a pretty bad sign for me because I can't adapt quickly to the lag. Why on earth would they put in better graphics without an option to turn off the upgrades because not everyone can afford a high end gaming desktop on top of monthly subs on a game that offers little content for players that finished the msq
Could open world pvp area work in ffxiv?
Most people i know really enjoyed Eureka and Bozja. My only issue with Eureka was Pagos and the weird attitude shift of players that happened ONLY IN PAGOS. People refusing to rezz, solo players getting completely ignored, people just being rude af. Anemos was fine, and the other 2 were fine for me as well. Pago was such a weird time
When you do the bare minimum and only put 5% of what the game makes back into the game you should expect people to leave
Let me sub run out, haven't played for like a month. I feel great.
I’m not quite sure how to feel about all of this. I fell in love with the game during Shadowbringers—it was the expansion where I started playing. I felt a deep passion for the story and the game itself, and I grew very attached to it. Final Fantasy XIV has a special place in my heart. It’s the MMO I always find myself returning to at least once a year, where I could easily spend hours just watching my character AFK in Limsa.
That said, my initial experience with Dawntrail was disappointing. The first quests, the opening moments, and the early interactions with Wuk Lamat immediately gave me a bad feeling. The first part of the expansion was a chore, and it made me stop playing for several months.
But last week, I decided to give it another shot with fresh eyes. I picked the expansion back up, and I finished it yesterday, including the epilogue. The second half was more engaging, but I’m still struggling to see where they’re going with the story. I feel torn between wanting to connect emotionally to the narrative and simply trying to make sense of it.
Unlike Shadowbringers or Endwalker, I don’t know how my character fits into this story. And then there’s Wuk Lamat… This character really needs to step back into a supporting role. Final Fantasy XIV has always been about our characters evolving through the expansions. It’s crucial for our characters to reclaim their spotlight, to live their own stories and adventures—even if that means parting ways with old companions and meeting new ones. After 10 years of storytelling, we need a true fresh start, much like ARR was when the game was reborn.
The concerns and criticisms I’m seeing everywhere are troubling. I’m worried. I love FF14, and I want nothing but the best for the game. I don’t want to see it fade away because it has one of the most passionate communities when it comes to its story and what it represents. They can’t let that slip through their fingers. I truly hope they do what’s necessary.
I retired my sub because I am tired of having my skills not be usable in lower level dungeons. It's the most lazy system ever.
I play DRG so you all know the struggle to play anything lower than level 70. The rotation is SOOOOO BORING and bad.
It's a terrible way to balance the system.
When I'm on my DRK I pray to get things above 68 so I can have TBN.
Eureka could be fun but the game gives me Z E R O information on how things works. The main quest of Eureka was hidden and I needed to watch a video showing to progress, it's beyond stupid.
Bozja is so UGLY and depressing that it makes me want to die when I go there.
Oh here comes Zepla with some of her hot takes.
"I can't stand level sync"
Based Zepla actually. I'll never doubt her again.
Fuck level sync.
Hopefully they learned from the mistakes of the past…
Eureka was too grindy, and required groups (at first, still does kinda) and some mobs had ridiculous spawn conditions (certain weathers, blah blah blah)
Bozja was just too darn grindy and then they stuck a group activity at the end of it, and if you didn't get there while i twas current content, well you're SOL apparently.
If they wanna make an "exploratory zone" it needs to not be mind-numbingly boring grind grind grind your eyeballs out and they need to not like, you know, require groups. It needs to be solo-able.
But yet we don't want a repeat of island sanctuary where everything you do there is confined to that zone and you only get a scant few rewards that you can take out of that zone (a mount, etc). Also, a huge problem with the Island Sanctuary is that it started out as being a neat little zone where you'd gather materials and build stuff, but they pull a bait&switch and turn it into automation and pretty much force you to make your island a factory to get anywhere. I wanted a nice place to chill and call home, I didn't ask for a daily chore factory.
Eureka was like old school FFXI. There was a touch of risk in losing xp on death, but not so severe that it felt overly punishing. When it launched in Stormblood, my server (JP datacenter) had multiple zones for weeks. By the time the third zone was released, some of the enthusiasm had died; but it was a small taste of what MMOs used to be like.
I've never played on NA/EU servers; was it different there?
I've been saying it for a while now, but Shadowbringer's was Final Fantasy's Wrath of the Lich King. The whole game has been going downhill ever since. Endwalker should have been two expansions, how they're treated the lore of the game is straight up disrespectful. Retconning lore and changing the story like we wouldn't notice is a direct insult to the player's intelligence.
The story has become worse than a children's show; Toy Story literally has higher stakes than Dawntrail. Despite record success, the game has even less content than previous expansions, all the dungeons are copy+paste, the jobs are all the same, there's no more job quests, the role quests had the writing of a Power Rangers episode.
And Yoshi-P thinks we should keep paying for this? The whole game being dumbed down, losing the depth of it's story, and all becoming just a whimsical fun time where everybody's just happy and wants to get to know each other and eat tacos!! :DD
What exactly are the devs working on? None of the systems are being improved, the game still has a problem with harassment and stalking, the jobs haven't changed SIX YEARS.
This is the laziest, most dishonest development team I've ever seen with a successful game.
Too late. Go Wuk, go broke. Unforgivable.
this is a very bad sign, one we WoW players know well. godspeed to y'all.
the direction of class design has been an ongoing and progressively worsening issue for me. I used to love black mage in HW but now it's just so uninteresting and skill-less, last time I played was the start of EW in which I was playing dragoon and while it was fun it was still so dumbed down from HW and hearing about how they plan to bring big time changes to it…. there's basically nothing left for me, warrior has also been ruined for me as well :
outside of that the content rotation is just not good enough. I know that y'all like to say about how "large" of an undertaking raid bosses are but the amount of high end raid content you get per expansion is just simply pathetic and with that being the only high end pve content in the game, it just isn't going to cut it for players like me. and just before you ask the alliance raids are just awful, man. with how flashy player and monster/boss abilities are in this game it just doesn't work, and even then the content is braindead easy
'Time = fun' is a valid equation if there's no other reward associated with time spent. They seem to forget that part.
If I didn't have a medium house, I would give serious thought to unsubbing for a while. 😆 Having a house is nice, but damn, it really chains you down!
In my opinion they need to make the relic grind longer BUT when you finish it you get the relic for every job. Because I'm sure right now they have to spend a lot of time figuring out how to balance relic hunting for the person with one job versus the person with ALL the jobs.
i quit ffxiv because it's not free to play so I made a new free trial account which i will also quit for ffxiv mobile so i can use all the games features for free 😂
I've been leveling my ALT jobs through the pelu pelu beast tribe quests daily. It's not the fastest way but it's probably the fastest 'least effort per minute' way!
Having your PVP combat bar in low level dungeons would be cool. Better than having 80% of your buttons turned off. And… It would get people who don't do PVP familiar with the layout. So maybe they would try PVP? It would be one less scary thing to worry about.
"retire" is "quitting" many japanese players retired from FF14 since DT in case the translation sound odd. But I hope he won't make it terribly grindy…
YoshiP is noit asking for subscribe this is a mistranslation ^^
Suggestions like "sync system" is what breaks the game. Yes I would like all my skills…… but………
You guys have been complaining the game too easy and whatnot…. this is a suggestion trap as we call it.
I mean at the end of the day: If you played 1 complete patch cycle of the game, you played the game in its entirety.
There is no reason to play 7.X if you played threw 6.X "More or less grind" is just "more or less of the same".
There is no reason to play 7.X if you played 5.X.
It's just all the same just with a different coat of paint. THIS is the reason ppl leave.
You can argue about details in jobs, social hubs etc. all day, but they do not matter.
The core mechanics and systems do not change at all and therefore the game feels the same every single time.
There is a reason a HUGE AMOUNT of the playerbase installs mods and hangs out half AFK in Venues and in Limsa (etc.) all day.
Its funny how an older mmo like swtor has level syncing but gives you all your skills and 14 cany have that? Lol
Right now my biggest issue is I don't like the looks of either tomestone armor sets. So I'm not getting that "Oooo! new glam!" fix I would normally get. Also not thrilled with the alliance raid armor sets. I find them boring. I don't pick and choose. I just roll greed on everything so I don't have to run it twice in a week. 🫡
I'd love to see some kind of roguelike content in the game – Vermintide 2's Chaos Wastes brought so much replayability to the game, and classes felt really fresh to play with each run bringing different kinds of challenges and powerups. Imagine something like that in FF14 – you can keep the homogenized jobs for the main story and dungeons, but add a roguelike PvE mode and suddenly you can go completely crazy. Pretty much like Bozja and Eureka with their Lost Actions, but on a much bigger scale and with a lot more variance and randomness in choices.
One of my favorite things to do in Bozja was to just tank stuff with my Red Mage, and playing DPS White Mage or Dark Knight felt really great too. Add a bit of grind to the mix, some actually rewarding gear and people will have the time of their lives.
Last time I heard "Sense of accomplishment." Was the EA lootbox case xD

Yoshi-p was so confident back when he said ‘please take breaks’. Him asking us now to not ‘retire’ just shows how he has very little faith in Dawntrail as an expansion. He knows that he screwed it up lol.
