  1. Also an interesting fact, back when this content was first released, IT WIPED THE FLOOR with raid parties. They have actually nerfed these fights to make it more accessable. One such example is in the first fight(against Mateus) when theres the big ice spiral ont he ground. A the mechanic is you have to get rid of the water bits so that they dont turn into adds and other bad stuff, but when you touch the water, you got WET, and then if you touched ice you got FROZEN SOLID. And are stunlocked for a LONG time. That mech is now just GONE.

  2. @23:00 doing first day/week alliance raids is some of the most fun in this game imo. Everything looks awesome, nobody knows what is going on and the mechanics are fairly punishing so everyone is just dying left and right getting rezzed by healers and red mages. It's not really frustrating either since usually you can just rez over and over until you beat the boss since there is generally no enrage; you usually don't full wipe more than once or twice to some gimmick. Some of the later Ivalice bosses were pretty brutal when they first came out though.

  3. Uhm guys you didn't play Final Fantasy 12? First bosses are summon from this game, it is same in same world as Tactics (ivalice) but time period and characters are different.

  4. Holy crap Vectorman! One of my earliest memories is playing that at a friends house who had a Sega. I could not remember the name of the game though. Seeing it again is super weird and nostaligic.

  5. As a player who completed Endwalker on release week (nlt spoiling anythibg here, don't worry), I can assure you I LOVED doing the Ivalice raids (I did them once each when I catched up Stormblood but wasn't interested nor did I pay much attention to it, but I went through that whole story again in anticipation for you doing it, and I LOVED IT this time around)

  6. Not just the camera and visuals but everything got better because of dropped ps3. Also ff 12 and fft are the same world and while it is believed ff12 is before tactics it could have come after with an older civilization that collapsed ( in ffxiv alagan empire would be) . This was the first true crossover with ffxiv.

  7. I highly recommend playing/reading/watching the Final Fantasy Tactics lore. It gives tremendous impact of the Ivalice story and raids. FFT is also one of the best video games story of all time in my opinion.

  8. One of the benefits of doing all this old content "when it was current in progression" is that when these mechanics show up again in MSQ dungeons and the like further down the line, they don't surprise you because you haven't seen them before, as is a potential issue for those who focus solely on the MSQ. Also, the release schedule for the raids is consistent across expacs from Heavensward forward. Normal Raid wings release on .0, .2, and .4 patches. Alliance Raid wings release on .1, .3, and .5 patches. Trial series is .2, .4, and .5 (I think). Stormblood's Trial series also includes two "optional" dungeons while Heavensward's Trial series just has solo duties. I've never actually done Shadowbringers' Trial series to completion, though… I kinda stepped off that train after the first Trial and never went back for any of the others.

  9. It is so awesome to watch you do all this raid and story content!

As someone that skipped parts of the optional content, I finally finished them and wonder what I was thinking in skipping them.

Kyle’s spreadsheet is so brilliant. Kudos to you!

  10. 5:13 Not Garlean area, this raid series takes place in Dalmasca, which is one of the areas actively rebelling against Garlemald after the events of Stormblood. It’s a reference to the setting of FF12

  11. The character configuration and hotkeys can be uploaded online and then reapplied automatically from the gear on the top right of the character selection screen, so you don't have to manually save the file on an external drive.

  12. Quick note about patch content releases, As you noticed, they split the content among the patches, partly to keep people playing, but also because the 25-man raids serve as a casual-friendly catch-up mechanic for gear. "Normal" 8-man raid content is pretty PUG friendly, with Extreme Trials, Savage Raids and Ultimate battles being optional hard-core content. The 25-man raids then give the casual players a chance to get some higher Ilvl gear in preparation for the next 8-man raid tier, without forcing them into Savage content.
Personally, I love the system; the social mechanics of raiding were always the hardest for me to negotiate, so being able to experience story and content with a PUG, while also having the option to run more difficult material for optional rewards has been incredibly enjoyable.

  13. I really recommend a new video by the YT channel Final Fantasy Union called "The Rise and Fall of Ivalice", it goes into detail about the history of the development of various games that feature the world of Ivalice

  14. I think Garrett really hit the key thing about a lot of XIV's references. It's really easy to write a reference that makes the superfans go "Oh man, it's that thing. The thing from the thing I like!", but if you're not a fan in that moment, being left going "Well, there's obviously something here, but I don't get it and I'm feeling really left out" sucks. XIV manages to work their references in in such a awy that (at least most of the time) if you get the reference, it's sweet but if you don't, you don't even necessarily know you're missing something because it feels like it fits perfectly in with everything else.

  15. You should play Final Fantasy Tactics. To this day people will all but fistfight you if you say it doesn't have one of the best FF stories. Also you can break the job system in very fun ways.

I believe Ivalice is the only time main FF party members are repurposed as a 14 characters. Lightning and Noctis visited but as themselves, Fran for example is native to 14's world not visiting from FF12

  16. I ran Rabanastre on release day, and let me tell you, Hashmal was the wall that stalled out so many runs. My first run of the wing actually timed out, because we spent so much time trying to beat Hashmal that we ran out of time in the middle of the Thedalfus fight. Some of the community took to calling him Hashbrown the Raidbreaker, because for the first week or two, until the majority of players got a handle on his phases, you were going to wipe on him.

Return to Ivalice is actually notorious for having a boss like that in every wing that became the hurdle you had to get over, and it was never the last boss of the wing. I look forward to seeing your reactions to the other 'Raid Wall' bosses from the second and third wings, because they both present challenges for very different reasons 😛

  17. Ivalice was my first alliance raid (I started right when stormblood started and didn't have to do crystal tower), it was honestly all so crazy. I've only seen Mataeus from the back and, until now, thought it was a blue skeleton or whatever… feels like I missed out lol.

  18. If you enjoyed Rabanastre this much, I can definitely see you doing a video for each wing of Ivalice. And I am absolutely here for it! It is so refreshing seeing content creators that gel with the Ivalice stuff, especially after seeing others disparaged by it because of it's "boring and long winded story" or others getting outright angry at it because they couldn't understand the mechanics.

My only concern is you guys doing the 4.5 MSQ and then hopping into the third wing with all MSQ smiley stuff also happening, and being distracted by that. But the third wing is by far the best Alliance Raid in the game, so I have faith you guys will enjoy it.

  19. It is worth it to go back and play the older titles that are referenced in A Realm Reborn. The plot in which they are placed throughout ARR may vary, but you get a sense of when or where they originated from.
