How to catch Basilosaurus in FFXIV (another Purple Scrip farm!)

Another viable option to change up your Purple Scrip Farming, Basilosaurus provides an alternative fish to catch if you happened to accidentally get the Folklore book for Thavnair. (oops)

🥩Where to find Makerel Strips
Mackerel Strip can be bought from my Scrip Exchange vendor for 5 Purple Scrip each. They’re under the “Gatherer’s Scrips (Materials/Misc.)” section of the vendor. You can get all scrip bait this way, just check the sections that have “Bait” listed. You’ll need to unlock Purple Scrip in Radz-at-Han first to actually get Purple Scrip, too… if you’ve not done so already for some reason.

🐋Catching Basilosaurus
Arrive to the Perfumed Tides (ideally early, but it’s not huge if you don’t) and use Collector’s Glove – but don’t use Patience II immediately! It’s viable to use Surface Slap on Fiery Goby, a quick ! bite. Use Surface Slap when you catch one, THEN use Patience II. Once you’ve done that, cast out again , and ONLY attempt to reel in the long ! bites. This is Puff-paya, the mooch fish for Basilosaurus. You can let any !! bites go.

With a Puff-paya ready to mooch, cast out again (assumedly during the Fair weather). Basilosaurus is a longer !!! bite. It bites somewhat uncommonly, but you’ll think it’s rarer. Let all the non !!! bites go. Once you get a !!! bite, use Powerful Hookset (if under the effects of Patience II) to reel in Basilosaurus.

👩‍🌾Farming tips
If you want to make the most of your time during the fair weather of Thavnair, and want multiple Basilosaurus, consider these tips.
– Keep Patience II up all the time. Use Thaliak’s Favor and hi-cordials to do so.
– After each time you mooch a Puff-paya, if you get a fiery goby, catch and slap it — then repeat the previous steps. It’s viable to slap goby’s as long as you’re targeting Basilosaurus.
– To save a little on Mackerel Strip, you can catch a Fiery Goby with any other bait. Once you’ve caught and slapped it, swap back to Mackerel Strip.
