No not just a warrior can do this, a paladin can easily pull this off , Paladin has more healing party wide and over time with sheltron, confetor, divine veil and clemency. Warrior is more of a burst healer for sustain . Gunbreaker can do it as well with moderate difficulity. Dark knight can do it with dancer, red mage and summoner in the party. The healer strike is totally valid
Yeee, you're trying so hard to be contrarian lmao
All good points, finally someone being sensible. Regards the clear without a healer, a true test would have been with only 2 dps, and not the 3 they used.
"Casual uwu vtuber story enjoyer makes assertions about a role they cannot play and know nothing about" – There you go, fixed your title for you.
Sorry that a lot of these comments are being hostile. It's a very contentious topic for the people involved, I'm sure you can understand. As a healer on strike I'll try and clear some of this up:
Most tanks(Who aren't named Dark Knight) are both perfectly capable of clearing dungeons with 1T3D, and in fact it is faster in doing so. WAR definitely has the easiest time but it is still comfortable on PLD and mildly stressful but very doable on GNB. This is without vercure spams or anything; they just have this much sustain. If you watch Xeno's run, he played VERY badly. His accolades do not make him immune to criticism. He takes lots of avoidable damage and ends up with many vuln stacks, suboptimal rotations, and manually clicks his abilities. It's far from a "skilled" run, which he himself admits in the video.
Further, the idea that they cleared a dungeon run without a healer isn't really the smoking gun in all this, more of the straw that broke the camel's back. Healers have been politely asking for fixes and changes to be less monotonous to play in the proper forums as far back as the beginning of Shadowbringers, which have all promptly been ignored. We were told "go play Ultimate" dismissively and then TOP ultimate got cleared without healers on the same patch it came out. Healers are, in the current climate of the game, a redundant role. The reason the dungeon run set everything off is because it showed that Dawntrail is going to be another 2+ years of awful healer design and WAR soloing everything.
The strike itself is not designed to impede anyone's gameplay or make a concerted attack on any demographic, be it WAR mains, other roles in general, or the devs. It's simply a coordinated effort to make our voices heard by refusing to play a job we no longer have enjoyment of. We do not request anyone else stop playing anything they enjoy, and any effect it might have on queue times is both mitigated by the existence of Duty Support/Trusts, the very ability to PF as 1T3D parties, and a side effect to a majority of players playing a role that they consider to be better designed and with more love and attention put into it. Hostility was never a factor in this; we only want to be heard for the first time in half a decade.
Striking was never anyone's first idea; if anything, it's one we feel we have to do because nothing else works. The amount of people now talking about healer job design, such as yourself(Thank you for covering us even if you disagree!) proves that such a move was both necessary and effective, and I for one have no regrets about doing so. We cast a spotlight on a problem that everyone ignored; so our goal is a success regardless.
I'd be glad to answer any other questions you might have about the subject to the best of my ability. And as an aside, you have a really cute accent. ^_^ Thanks again!
Paladin can do it i know ive done it
You are absolutely right. The only saving grace of this healers' strike is that once this strike starts I won't get nearly as many healers without braincells in my parties.
Gonna keep it a buck 50, we're not asking for Cleric Stance. All we're asking for is a gameplay loop. All they have to do for Scholar is return Miasma, make both dots a low duration with higher potency while nerfing Broil to compensate for the increase, return Bane, and make Baneful Impaction a 60 second cd. They could also give Energy Drain the old fester mechanic to further promote the dot juggling playstyle.
I'm still fuming over Sage stealing Scholar's toys.
ok as a tank main if they want to do a healers strike I'll just have all the tanks pull one mob at a time and stop big pulling all together
So all tanks could 1-tank 3-DPS since Stormblood. That's the earliest I can remember doing this with, yes, DRK PLD and WAR, not JUST WAR. I wasn't really doing it in Heavensward but it's a very real possibility that it was happening then too. It was never really advertised, but high-end groups have been doing this since forever just because it's just that much more efficient. To your point though, it does require a measure of skill and does require the DPS to be pushing out a TON of damage. This is just the first time this kind of thing has come into the main stream lime light. It is very much not uncommon in high-end groups (groups able to clear savages and ultimates within the first 1-4 weeks of launch) to do this to this day because it's just faster.
Doing 1-tank 3 DPS is actually more about the performance of the group in terms of DPS than anything to really do with tank skill. The idea is that you blast down everything before anything has a chance to do real damage, and you could just use HP and MP-ticks between pulls and during bosses since dungeon bosses have never been a threat compared to trash pulls at any point in this game's history.
Now granted, it takes SIGNIFICANTLY less skill to do this with Warrior, as Warrior has enough sustain that even with lower group DPS they can sustain themselves pretty much indefinitely. I'd say from experience that you only need to be proficient, not even an expert, with WAR and have some decently skilled DPS that understand their AOE rotation to accomplish this. There is SOME credence to the claim that this practice has become too easy, but this healer strike is still a gross overreaction to the video.
There are some good points that healers are over-saturated with contingency tools, but the take that other players should not be able to have an effect on their own survival is ridiculous. The take of 'so much for encounter design' is also pretty short-sighted as it's heavily implied that Yoshi-P was referring to end-game content. A levelling dungeon is not going to be affected by something like this, and I think people need to understand that within the space of an MMO, there are multiple demographics and not everything is going to be made for everyone and that's okay.
Overall I'm kind of glad something like this is getting main stream attention because casual and mid-core content could stand to be a bit more difficult while still remaining accessible, and there are definitely some major problems with encounter design that just eliminate the need for entire roles outside of mechanic targets. It's just too bad that the mainstream takes are pretty garbage, especially since the high end community has been saying for years that healer design needs to be addressed.
Only warrior? Paladin can do it as well- and every other tank is getting even BETTER mitigations going forward. If anything its easier then ever for tanks to be able to do this with a red mage and some change.
Queued blind into Haukke manner last night trying to do leveling, had a warrior under geared and under level think she could wall to wall pull and not have the rest of the group be able to keep up. We waisted more time in the dungeon because of the tank and other dps’ arrogance than if we would have gone at a steady pace. The healer strike is absolutely going to destroy doing content in this game and it’s gonna be these idiot’s fault. :/
OK, to do a healer less dungeon, keep in mind we are talking about DUNGEONS, and you need a preformed team to even attempt
Also, your DPS members need to actually do damage to speed through the mobs so your WAR will have enough CDs to survive, as at some point the WAR will run out of defensives and may die while waiting for Bloodwhetting.
How many times have you done an expert and noticed that in some runs it takes forever, and other times they are quicker??
The reason for this is usually the DPS as a whole is low, usually it's because one or both DPS aren't using their offensive CDs to run through the mobs or even the healer is not DPSing and causing the run to slow down
So, if you take these players with low DPS, will they be able to do the expert without a healer?
The answer is no.
Lastly, if you strike, just know you are in the minority as there are way too many casual players to replace you during the 1st two weeks while you get over this and also factor in those with low resolve that are saying they will strike.
It's a new expansion (and they only come every 2 yrs), you really think people are not going to play their favorite jobs, even if it is a healer?!?
You haven't even seen the content yet, you don't even know if healers are in a bad spot or not.
Good Luck with this strike.
I'm not sure about your level of experience with healer and if you've played it at all levels of content: but the main gripe with healer is how the gameplay loop is so stale and boring. You literally just mash 111111 for 30s to 1 minute at a time until some healing is required, press an OGCD and call it a day, going back to your riveting DPS filler.
It's not even much different in extremes, savages or ultimates. Learning the fight is fun but once you've learned how to map your cooldowns it's back to the same gameplay loop: mash glare over and over, and occassionally press an OGCD heal that takes no thought or effort. There's some content in the game which is fun to heal, but on the overall, it's all the same. Just boring.
We're striking because the developers are tripling down on boring healer gameplay despite there being years of feedback against this. Clearly voicing our opinions and feelings on the forums or reddit peacefully has done nothing, so let's be a little more direct.
Saying ''well only WAR doesn't need to be healed'' isn't the gotcha or anti-argument you think it is. Imagine if, let's say Sage, had more DPS than any job in the game and the optimal party comp would be tank + 3 Sage's. Is that good design? Is that fine, because it's just one healer out of four invalidating another role? Dawntrail is buffing every tank's MIT's and self-sustain, so the other three tanks will creep forward to where WAR is. And no, it's not some highly skilled requirement to do what he did, I don't even play WAR yet I can walk into any current dungeon and be immortal.
I can look at my logs for any savage content and see hundreds upon hundreds of cast of my DPS filler spell, making up 90% of my GCD's. How is that good design? To mash one button, over, and over, and over. I'm a die hard support/healer player in general, and FF14 has the worst healer design I've ever played – and I've only been full-time grinding this game for a year, can't imagine what its like for veterans in HW/SB who had more nuanced and skilled healer gameplay took away from them so the lowest common denominator healer player can get through their MSQ dungeon as they snort cure 1.
Warrior n Paladins have been able to 1 tank, 3 dps dungeons for ages :3
Ppl acting as if the dungeons are hard in general to even need a healer. Any tank but drk and do this.
