  1. Glad your enjoying the story!!!! I love this game, if your on Primal Datacenter I can tank stuffs for you! Thankfully the pulled away from the class system, only the original jobs and rogue/ninja have them, once you unlock the newer jobs, its just a job now, you get the job stone and no prereqs.

Player tip: Crafting and Gatherers are worth it, especially your gatherers!!!
Player tip: Use the leveling roulette!!! Roulettes are awesome xp!!!!!

  2. You COULD die to fall damage, but only during battle. If you're SUPER unlucky and an enemy aggros you as you are landing near it, you could die and it's pretty funny when it happens XD

  3. From someone in the game for a while some extra tips:

Ask at the beginning of the instance if you can watch cutscenes if you’re new to the dungeon. Almost always people will be happy to let you enjoy them, but you need to ask!

Don’t neglect retainers. Get in early on them. Get two, one should be a disciple of the land (recommending mining/fishing) and the other your main job’s base class. Level your retainers to 10 and then start sending them out on “quick ventures”. Put your retainers in your last-best gear and you’ll get decent items. Keep this up to 80 and you’ll always have some decent pocket change for selling the items they bring back from the market board.

Need ventures? Level up your grand company rank! Once you are Staff Sergeant 2 you can do “expert deliveries” to trade your extra gear in for grand company seals! Trade these seals in for ventures and other goodies. PROTIP: click the drop down box to select “hide armory items” so you don’t trade in your actual gear!!

Get to 2nd LT in your Grand Company and you can buy housing/apartments down the road!

There’s some other stuff but they are more complicated and overwhelming for new players. But retainers and GC leveling early on will save you a TON of work later on and you should get on this as soon as you can for the best results.

  4. One thing I wish I knew when I started is that you will be visiting a location called Vesper Bay. A lot. The main story will reward you with many Vesper Bay Aetheryte Tickets, which is an item that can teleport you directly there when used. It is easy to miss when you are used to teleporting around a different way. You can also save yourself the long walk by taking a boat there. From Limsa, use the Aetheryte to go to the Arcanist Guild, speak the NPC behind the booth to the left down the ramp, you can buy a ticket from him for 80 gil. Cheep and fast. Pray Return.

  5. Some of my tips:

    1) Always have food on hand when leveling, get use to using food if you are gonna be a raider.

    2) Blue icon quests are feature unlock quests, these can unlock raids, emotes, challenge log, etc.

    3) Your HUD is completely customizable. This includes size, position, style, etc so customize to your heart's content.

  6. Something I didn't realize until super late into the game is that you can put favored destinations for teleports! Make places you teleport to often as favored to decrease the cost! 🙂

Another thing that might sound pretty obvious but when I was new I made this mistake. You get new job quests to do as you level and get your own Soul Crystal to "upgrade" your job, make sure to equip that. Don't make the same mistake I did and go levels upon levels as a thaumaturge rather than a black mage haha.

  7. one tip i usually tell people is to mess around with your hud once you get some abilities so you can customize your hud in anyway you want so if you (if your playing a tank) want to put your "oh shit" buttons on a second bar to the right from your main three bars you can customize it to work for your wants and needs also as something you just mentioned ASK FOR FREAKING HELP i came over to FF from wow over 2 years ago now and people are WILLING to jump up to you and give you all the helpful tips and wont be fucking dicks about it

  8. As a FC leader I just want to say that always respect your leaders decision, especially the founders of the FC. Just have fun and don't argue because that doesn't go well 🙂 Basically if you don't like the FC direction just leave don't make things difficult, personal experience lol!

  9. I didn't see you mention the Hall of the Novice quests. These are good and they give some nice gear for the level if you do them all. Some of it may be understandable to an MMO player, but it also shows various damage markers. Also, unlike some games, people do expect you to kind of watch mechanics and not take a cleave to the face. Yes, there are healers, but the healers are expected to dps a bit and not spend their time healing someone getting cleaved because they are standing next to the tank.

Other than the first job quest to actually unlock a job, the game actually tells you when you unlock the next job quest I suggest people just pick a job quest up if it sounds interesting when speaking to the NPC and don't worry about the end game like you would in WoW – I know you all hear this a lot and want to rush, but the job quest itself will give you an idea of whether you want to play the class. So if it sounds interesting, try it out using the intro quests. If you don't like it? You aren't tied to it – just don't level it!

  10. Don't jump down a cliff if you have agro otherwise you will die. Also don't pick on the lalfells . Dynamite comes in small packages. An don't rush through msq. Things are learn on machanic in fights aswell. This is why ffxiv players look down on story skips.

  11. My advice is focus on main story quests and blue quests. Other side quests don’t reward enough and can take away from the main story experience. You can always go back and do these quests with a second role once you’ve finished all expansions. That’s how I played through it anyway once someone told me. Initially I wanted to do everything and it took away from my story experience.

  12. I just wanted to say, Welcome to the wonderful realm governed by Lady Hydaelyn! You will find it full of beauty and adventures and in some cases, darkness and wonder! I am very happy to welcome you to the community. It is a wonderful game with so much to do!

  13. Hers something i wish i knew a long time ago, once you get into heavensward and the other expansions, to unlock flying you have to find aether currents around the map. You get a compass in your key items slot you use and it tells u how far away and what direction the closest one to you is. YOU CAN ADD THE COMPASS TO A HOTBAR FROM THE KEY ITEMS MENU! I pulled up and reclicked the stupid thing over and over and over. When your going through a new expansion slap it on a hotbar for easy clicking. Also, watch some videos on customizing your ui early on, the sooner u fix it to your liking the faster you will adjust. Once youve used the default for too long its hard to adjust, and default ui isnt very good.
