JoCat is a blessing we don’t deserve, and damn was he spot on about us Summoners. Still my favorite caster DPS though, because damn is it satisfying to watch things explode using primal powers.
There actually is an indicator for the slide casting! If you put an emote on your hotbar, the emote is unavailable while casting unless slide casting is available, so the emote on the hotbar acts as a slide casting indicator. As a black mage main, I find this very useful. That being said, it is the sort of thing you should just learn the feel of instead of relying on the emote to tell you
BLM life is best life
Ps blue mage is op offense wise with right spells xD but the con isthe equipment gives 0 stats basically so you have the survivability of wet paper
Thanks for the video.
The starter quest to get you BLU is in the aetheryte plaza in Limsa. There's a Yellowjacket who thinks the guy selling Blue Mage job stones is scamming people. It only gets sillier from there. I love the whole quest line.
There's an easier way to tell when you can start slide casting than using emote buttons. You can start moving again once the cast time gets to 0.50 seconds remaining. For jobs with shorter cast times this means you can start moving with as much as a third or more of your cast bar still left.
As someone who has played a lot of Summoner over the years, where it's at right now is very smoothbrain. I don't really have to think about what I'm doing most of the time, the rotation is so simple, which is great for my ADHD, but has also kinda become boring a bit, because I basically just shut my brain off when I play it.
It's wild that Summoners are allowed to exist. Even setting aside them playing with the essence of things that brainwash people with their essence, SMNs are basically running around casting "Relive Trauma" all over the place. Summoning mini-Bahamut in Eorzea is like walking around Hiroshima with a mock-up Little Boy nuke.
One nice thing about Summoner, there are story beats locked behind you having a role at a certain level. By having Summoner leveled, you also have Scholar leveled, so that's two roles down. In addition, when learning raids some other casting classes will start summoner for learning so they'll get down the fight rhythm so they know what to do to bring Black Mage, as Black Mage needs you to know when you can afford to stand still.
The biggest use you'll get out of blue mage is whenever Square announces a mogtome event where you can get a special currency to spend on rare items by doing old content for a limited time. Because if you unsync those fights you'll be allowed to use blue mage, so what people will do is make an entire party of blue mages with specific spell choices to absolutely demolish that boss in like 10 seconds to make grinding it extremely quick. Which reminds me, I should get around to actually making the effort to grind up my blue mage and unlock spells for it one of these days lol
Word is they'll be adding a new limited job with Dawntrail, since the shine has worn off of Blue Mage. Leveling is a breeze (an hour or two), the content for it can be pretty easily cleared, then it's just a "wait until level cap and spell book increase."
Blue Mage is definitely the farm job, though. When I was doing the 80 relic farm, I saw a lot of Blue Mages going FATE to FATE and steamrolling everything. They'd fly in, sync, cast Hydro Pull, then do a bunch of AoE spells and every enemy was dead.
I hope some of you will consider joining me on my adventure! Streaming daily on Twitch!

I'll adjust your BLM rear right out of your leylines.
yes the fun joke that samurai has more hard casts than summoner
You get the feel for slide casting. I play BLM a lot and have almost gotten it down to a science. Just pay attention to your animations. Once you’re about to sling the spell (before you whip your staff forward) you can move. It becomes almost second nature after a minute. Really easy.
I will say this as a healer i will adjust for a GOOD Black Mage. The catch 22 is that good Black Mage will not ask you to adjust.
Yeah, Reaper has two casts (well, three, kind of, but the third you only use during downtime): Your ranged attack (which becomes an instant cast if you use either of your teleports), Communio (burst finisher), and Harvest Moon (which is a two-part attack with the cast being a charge you can hold and the cast is instant outside of combat).
That's What rescue is for we adjust DPS to their taste
