  1. Welcome all to 3.1, and to Krile who is one of the first extremely long term pay offs of the game. You see this is not the first we have heard of her. Krile was first mentioned in Minfilia's linkpearl call all the way back during the Scion rescue plan in ARR. This is strictly voiced dialogue in the background of the scene, unfortunately not caught in the text boxes. Notably Minifilia and her sound close in that call and she was acting as our main channel into the Students of Baldesion before they disappeared.

The other notable thing about Krile is that she is a reference to a character of the same name from FF5. The hood is taken from Krile's White Mage outfit in that game and is incredibly adorable.

  2. I find it quite interesting that FFXIV Krile can’t speak to beasts when FFV’s Krile’s whole thing is speaking with animals (and features strongly in Krile-centric stories in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia!). Then again, that could still be what she means, talking with animals and dragons and the beast tribes as opposed to the various monsters that attack us.

  3. Krile is notably one of the few Lalafell whose name (in English) does not follow Lalafellian naming conventions, a product of her being raised by a hyur.
(In Japanese meanwhile, her name is Kururu, so there it does fit Lalafellian naming conventions)

  5. Today's spoiler free lore comment is about the most adorable lalafell! I know that's subjective, and some people are going to state that throne belongs to Tataru, but I like Krile and that's my preference!

Krile Mayer Baldesion was first spoken of back during ARR, and the friend that Minfillia spoke with on her linkpearl. Krile has been sidelined due to the mysterious disappearance of The Isle of Val, the headquarters of The Students of Baldesion. She's the second member of The Students of Baldesion that Durmin has met, the other being G'raha Tia.

Krile, and her adorable hood, are references to FF5's playable character Krile Mayer Baldesion, Princess of Bal, granddaughter of Galuf Halm Baldesion. In FF5, characters take on different outfits when they change jobs, and Krile's White Mage sprite has adorable kitty ears. Krile also has the unique ability to communicate with animals, chocobos, moogles, and a ghost.

Krile in FFXIV has been mostly imported wholesale from her FF5 incarnation. She retains her relation to Galuf Baldesion, but now as an adoptive granddaughter. The Students of Baldesion is a research organization founded by Galuf, and they travel far and wide to investigate magical phenomenon. Krile's name in FF5's Japanese was "Kururu", and the same is true for her Japanese name in FFXIV. Given this name, she's of course a lalafell, since it matches the lalafell naming conventions. The English localization alters this, since "Krile" doesn't match lalafell traditions. Instead, Krile is the name given to her by Galuf when adopting her. The original Krile was even small of stature, being 14 years old (her sprite was the same size as the others, of course). Here, she's aged up to 22, and is an accomplished scholar of Sharlyan. Finally, she possesses The Echo, much like Durmin. Krile is the first character to reveal that The Echo manifests differently for some people. For Krile, her ability allows her to comprehend all languages, but not speak with animals, contrary to some in universe rumors and her FF5 namesake. Apparently, her hood was crafted for her by Galuf, as part of her training to control The Echo.

22:00 – This interaction is part of the reason I think Krile is great. She's got barbs! Alphinaud's not going to be getting away with anything with her around.

Krile operates as a Conjurer, similar to Y'shtola, but she's largely a non-combatant. You will see her heal in cutscenes, though.

And if you enjoy Krile's style, I have good news! You can purchase her outfit on the cash shop! I also have bad news, her enormous lapels scale with character height. On a lalafell, they're adorable. On an elezen, they're the size of daggers. I recommend using the new "dream fitting" system at inns to try on any cash shop outfits before purchasing, that way you know what you're getting.

And a new addition to the cast:
    Gemma Lawrence as Krile

  6. Aliphinaud is an artist. I forgot they established that here. Also I'm really glad the "learned to sketch from memory" and "to impress young ladies" I'm just glad it wasn't "to sketch young ladies at a glance he shouldn't have taken.

  7. Yay another Durmin sized friend! I would watch a whole video that is just her, Durmin, and Matoya sitting down for tea to chat, and share embarrassing stores about Alphy.

Also, loving all these call backs to other FF games.

  8. Leave it to an RPG (And an MMO at that) to explore the aftermath of a nation and its religion being exposed for its lies, to pick up the shattered pieces and reforge them into something better for the future.
I love the lore behind Ishgard, these patches, and the expansion as a whole. I know it is pretty low for me to compare it to other MMORPGs because FFXIV is somewhat unique in its emphasis on Storytelling, and other games put their emphasis on other aspects of the game, like gameplay, exploration, and such. Still, coming from a background of loving the 'World' in World of Warcraft, I always got(get) so dissatisfied by how stuff gets resolved in that game, on how we beat the big bad and the story on that place suddenly stops, getting little to no continuation.

  9. – are you telling me BRUTE JUSTICE! is not a vital part of the story path? i shall disagree good sir
    – yeah… no idea how would you even start to untangle everything King Thordan the 1st did to start the DragonSong War to the public & not cause a civil war, i still propose Midgardsommar to be the new Pope
    – well that talk with dragons went well… also i guess Ravana needs a new butt kicking, what did we just agreed on you amazing Bug God?!
    – i love Krile, she's already my favorite… even if she managed to somehow miss the very obvious wooden path, i always applaud people dunking on Alphanaud
    – Y'SHTOLA YOU'RE BLIND!!!

  10. That speech to Vidofnir shows yet again that Lucia didn't get her job as second in command to Aymeric for nothing! Even though she clearly still has a lot of personal misgivings towards Ysayle, she picks up on Vidofnir greeting us as 'friends of Ysayle' and incorporates her name and her dream of peace into her arguments.
Idk, I just think it's neat that side charcters beyond just the most central ones/the scions also show personal conflicts and thought processes in their actions 😀
