More about Final Fantasy 14:

“Final Fantasy XIV[b] is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) for Microsoft Windows personal computers, developed and published by Square Enix in 2010. It is the fourteenth entry in the main Final Fantasy series and the second MMORPG in the series after Final Fantasy XI. Set in the fantasy realm of Eorzea, players take control of a customized avatar as they explore the land and are caught up in both an invasion by the hostile Garlean Empire and the threat of the Primals, the deities of the land’s Beastmen tribes. Eventually, they are embroiled in a plot by a Garlean Legatus to destroy the Primals by bringing one of the planet’s moons down on Eorzea.

Final Fantasy XIV takes place in a high fantasy setting. The main location is Eorzea, a continent on the larger planet Hydaelyn: this contrasts Final Fantasy XI which uses one name to refer to the entire world and its regions. Eorzea is broken up among three main powers: the forest nation of Gridania; the desert-based Ul’dah sultanate; and the thalassocracy of Limsa Lominsa, Eorzea’s dominant maritime power. Other important locations include the scholarly city-state of Sharlayan and the Garlean Empire, a hostile northern power with highly developed technology. Five years prior to the start of the game, the Garlean Empire invaded the land of Ala Mhigo, but were prevented from conquering Eorzea by the attacks of the ancient dragon Midgardsomr and his dragon hordes. In response to the Empire’s threat, the three nations of Eorzea reform the Grand Companies, comprehensive centers of command which combine the cities’ military and economic assets. The Grand Companies attracted people from all walks of life, who take up the mantle of Adventurers.”

  1. The whole thing with Emet is like, too many forget that people can react with nuance as well. You can feel sympathy for the tragedy that is Emet, and all he has been through to save and bring back the ones he loves. At the same time you can condone all the actions and lives he has had to take in the pursuit of his goal. I LOVE Emet as a character cause he is portrayed so damn well.

Also Nobbel got pretty lambasted for sharing basically the same reaction to Emet in the moment back in ShB. Too many people just can't stand people reacting in a way genuine to themselves. Even if those reactions are not in complete knowledge of the situation or are from a misunderstanding. I personally always find it absolutely fascinating to see people work through their own thoughts and how they process everything in the story.

  2. My favorite part was when krojak said it is ok to be critical about the game you love because you want it to be even better. I think that is the mindset all "gamers" should have. Love the game and it's amazing but even if you call it a nitpick, it pushes devs to be better. Praise never makes you want to improve, its the nagging feeling you could do better that should spur you on. Praise makes you complacent, critique makes you think and re-evaluate.

  3. On the PvP comments; the most fun PvP matches I've had are the ones that are close.
Games where you completely trounce the opposing team aren't fun.
Games where you're completely trounced by the opposing team aren't fun.
The ones where you're on a level playing field, scrapping over every little point to nudge the win in your favour, those are fun.
If your PvE gear progression affected your PvP, the only ones who could compete would be your Ultimate raiders.
PvP would unlock for new players at level 30 but those players would be nothing but low level trash mobs to existing players. That's not going to be fun for either team.

  5. I disagree, ff14 players love to play the game and watch streamers’ reaction to the msq. The reason they like watching streamers like that is because ff14 didnt get the recognition it deserves before. And players treat this like watching a friend’s playthrough. Many ff14 players doesn’t have irl friends that play the game amd share the game with. It’s the same with anime reactions on YouTube. Anime fans love other people reacting to their favorite anime.

  6. One of the most tragic things about Emet is that he has great capability to do good things for others. He didn't really have to choose the obliterate the shards and all life on them. I think he could have just as easily worked for the betterment of the world, building nations for the better. But it would have been a really short story to have an all-powerful creator on our side. LoL.

  7. There is a difference between them thinking someone is lesser and justifying it that way and them being actually lesser. Is it yuck? Of course it is. But the sundered are objectively lesser than the Ancients. It doesn't make it any more morally right , but it isn't the same as the leaders who do that here IRL because of that objective difference.
