  1. The elf and catlady later are as far as I know different from the ones in the beginning. I'm not to sure tough as I never played the og version of the game. That version is no longer playable as it sucked balls and they had to completely rework the whole game which was released as a realm reborn.

  2. what you saw first was the trailer for the failed version of the game (generally known as 1.0).
1.0 was so bad that iirc it could have done permanent damage to the FF brand..

Flames of Truth.. well, the first part of it. That part also depicts the seventh Calamity, which happened at the end of 1.0.
What you see there is the "elf wizard" and others trying to reimprison Bahamut, didnt work so that guy destroyed him.
at pretty much 14:48 that part ends.
the next part is soething they had to put online because most people back then couldnt finish the lvl 50 raids of "A Realm Reborn" which is the basegame we have now.
That part also shows what happened to that guy, makes a lot of sense when you did the raids as things get explained there.

As already said A Realm Reborn is the basegame, so what you see literally is the trailer for the resurrected version of the game, which also plays 5 years after the Calamity.
They also made the game in a span of iirc 2 years, with one year where half of the team made 1.0 atleast somewhat enjoyable for the players that stuck with them, those players have a place in the ending credits of the basegame.

Heavensward is actually the first DLC, those trailers are released in pieces at the "Fanfests" which are conventions specifically for FF players and usually in 3 parts, also usually towards the end of the current expansion.
As the trailers are released towards the end of an expansions lifecycle there are quite a few major spoilers in those.
You said that the song during the Heavensward trailer was distracting you, those songs are as far as i know tailored specifically to fit the expansion.
as for the dude in all the trailers: our character stand in changed his job from Warrior to Dragoon in it, they always have the stand in change job to fit the expansions theme and tone.

The trailers are in the right order.

at the start of the Stormblood trailer you said that the graphics are getting so good.. these are cinematic trailers, not gameplay footage.
Most people cannot read anything in the trailers since the continent the basegame and first expac are on has its own writing.
Yes in that trailer our Stand in is both the Monk fighting on the Palm and the Samurai in the alley.
Stormblood is also where they dropped support for the PS3.

Dont worry about being late to the party, you can always try the game with the Free Trial they have on their website.
There are quite a few restriction on it, but you can play everything right up to the start of Stormblood.

During the Shadowbringers trailer you said you like how they go back n forth in music genres, that is normal in this game.
We have a dungeon with freestyle Jazz and a fight with edgy rock in the same expansion…
Your question on what our lovely character stand in did there, people most likely will not tell you.

Creative Business Unit 3 is the team behind the game.
Endwalker was actually made during the pandemic, it is also the the end of the overarching narrative that happened in all the expansions before it.
The music in that trailer also has parts of every expansion that was before it for that reason.
I dont think i can tell you more about it without putting in spoilers.

on the 28th we are actually having the first of the 3 Fanfests, the con itself may not be livestreamed… but we do get the dev pannels to watch.
IF you really want to know the story and world, i do recommend getting the free trial, just make sure you actually read things… it probably will also feel pretty slow at the beginning.

  3. Alright so the first cinematic was from 1.0, which ended up being absolutely terrible. So yoshi-p was hired to save it. His solution: destroy it and start over. The second cinematic up to the fade to white was yhe last thing seen by every player when they shut down the 1.0 servers for the last time. We didnt actually find out what happened to Louisoix (the elf gandalf) until the first raid story in a realm reborn when the second part where he 1v1's the dragon was shown. It was part of the mystery to solve in the first raid which had you accompanying his grandchildren (the one called alisae and her twin in the last trailer) into the ruins to find out what happened to Bahamut (dragon) and their grandfather.

For your information: you can play a realm reborn and the first expansion (heavensward) for free, basically the whole story from level 1-60. If youre on the fence about it, its a good way to try it out. Definitely worth it.

  4. Technically you saw the trailers kinda wrong the second trailer you saw was half of a real reborn and half the flames of truth and the a real reborn trailer you saw was the last half that starts after the big "teleport" spell

  5. Final Fantasy XIV ist the most beloved Game of the Series because of the story.

I know you are a huge Star Wars fan. Final Fantasy is mostly inspierd by StarWars and most Final Fantasy Games have similariys to Starwars. There are also two Characters in almost evrey Game calld Biggs and Wedge. There ist in many Games an Empire as an Enemy. But its also more than just that. The Games are also Story heavy and if you want to play a Final Fantasy Game i would recomend FFXII that one has the most similarty to StarWars. But the best FF Games ar VI to X , XIV, XVI and III and IV are also good. All games are stand alone.

  6. The biggest dragon you see in the first cinematic is called Midgardsormr. He is the guardian of Silvertear Falls in Mor Dhona. He rose to fight the Garlean ship, Agrius. He wrapped his whole body around the airship and crippled it, only for the ceruleum tanks to explode. Not only was Midgardsormr killed in this explosion, but a seal was broken and vast amounts of aether were unleashed under the lake. Silvertear Falls drained away entirely and left the land barren. All that remains of the Battle of Silvertear is the decayed carcass of Midgardsormr, which remains wrapped around the wrecked Agrius. It is now known as Keeper of the Lake. Midgardsormr's children are known as the First Brood. Nidhogg, Azdaja, Ratatoskr, Hraesvelgr, Vrtr, Tiamat, and the legendary Bahamut. Currently, in Endwalker, Tiamat, Hraesvelgr, and Vrtra are still alive. We're working on rescuing Azdaja, we had to kill Nidhogg, and Bahamut is another story entirely!

  7. The second trailer: The big, giant ball of fire is a fake moon called Dalamud. The ancient race of Allag killed Bahamut. His mate, Tiamat, was consumed by so much sorrow, she summoned Bahamut as a primal. Because of the circumstances and volatile emotions of the summoning, Bahamut returned as a shadow of pure hate and rage, so the Allagans managed to trap him inside of Dalamud and there he stayed, where his rage and hate festered until Garlemald let him out. This is the Battle of Cartineau. The old grandpa is Louisoix. He summoned the twelve gods of Eorzea in an attempt to re-trap Bahamut's primal, only Bahamut smashed it. Louisoix then received a vision from the gods and he became the primal known as the Phoenix. His primal was strong enough to destroy Bahamut, but at great cost. Louisoix took all the memories from those in Eorzea with the hope nobody would remember the Phoenix and summon him.

  8. Honestly there has been very few Final Fantasy games that are sequels. I think 12 was the only one that barrowed some world from a previous title. They have themes they reuse or easter eggs but the plot, timeframe, and world can be completely different. Guess an example is 10:51 the robot things was in FF6 and Chocobos been in FF since 2 I think. It's also way more then 14 games at that point. Like you had Mythic Quest, Crystal Chronicles, Tactics, ect. Also games like Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus or Final Fantasy X-2 which are the only times a game is going to tell you it's related to a past game. But it's a 36 year old series. Not bad for an all of nothing game that would have seen the company bankrupt if it failed.

Guess a little clarification on the Flames of Truth. When Elf Gandolf teleported everyone away, that was the end of the trailer and it went right into a Realm Reborn. Because Square made a bad mmo and they decided to fix it by making a whole new game and just transferring the player base over. So it was a very meta way to show why your character was in this new realm in canon. But you know, you want to fight the giant god dragon so…..ya know.

  9. Fun fact, between the first cinematic you watched & the second w/ the Dragon and wizard, the Devs completely rebuilt the game. The Second Cinematic is not a DLC as you say but the Devs completely destroying the game word & incorporating it into the 2.0 remake as history

Unlike most other games where, to play a new Class or Job as FFXIV calls them, you have to make a new character; in FFXIV the Classes/Jobs conform to the Character. So you can play all classes on one character. You just have to learn and become proficient at it. Like starting a new job 😊

  10. The reason why there is technology combined with medieval stuff.
its because a single Empire called Garlemald its way more technologically advanced that all other realms and continents.
The reason why they are so advanced is basically because they lack the ability to use magic in all its forms, thus they were weaker than everyone else until they just started to advance their technology to even the odds, after that… They started a world conquer campaign, so yeah they are "the bad Guys" kinda, cause its not that they are evil, is that they use questionable means for that they believe is right.

  11. 26:60 That armor being intense is pretty much canon, yes… the people there wearing that style of armor, armed with spears, are called Dragoons. They are basically elite soldiers, trained in mid-air combat using aether(mana, if you will)-augmented jumps and dive attacks, specializing in fighting dragons. The reason their armor is so, pardon the pun, edgy, with lots of spikes and blades attached to it, is because they are so commited to killing dragons, if a dragon eventually swallows them during combat, they at least want to make it hurt the dragon just as much by ripping them up from the inside.

  12. For context in the original trailers.

The first one you saw was the 1.0 trailer. Nothing special.
The second trailer you saw was actually the termination of the game for 1.0. At the end of it announces to stay tuned for Realm Reborn, which would be 2.0
The third trailer, the part where the old wizard sacrificed himself, wasn't actually part of any of the trailers but rather a cutscene you'd get in the raid series Coils of Bahamut, where you investigate the aftermath of that fight and find out why Bahamut just straight up disappeared and the fate of that old man. Spoiler warning, the dragon survived, so we had to finish the job before he completely recovered.
The fourth trailer is the official announcement trailer for Realm Reborn.

Each trailer after that is for their respective expansion trailers.

The main character you see in each trailer represents our characters in 14. At the start, he's an archer. Then in Realm Reborn, he's a warrior. In Heavensward, a dragoon. Stormblood, a monk and samurai. Shadowbringers with Dark Knight, and Endwalker with Paladin. The last two heavily references a big plot point in FF4.

Archer is just about what you'd expect. In Realm Reborn, they can become a bard which supports their party with musically empowering effects, using their bow like a harp.
Warriors uses the primal rage to fight. There is a special training to harness this power. Those found wanting are controlled by their rage, becoming a rabid animal that needs to be put down, commanding colonies of animals to attack civilization. This tank is known for being too angry to die, and is heavily memed on being the best healer in the game.

Dragoons, the one with the sick armor, are elite lancers tasked to do one thing, and one thing very well: kill dragons. Their signature ability involves them jumping high into the air, and falling down on their foes with great impact. For these guys, it's victory or valhalla. Fun fact: their armor is designed so that in the event they DO get killed by the dragon, they'll kill the dragon on the way out. The tankiest DPS job in the game, this class is extremely effective and simple on what they can do. The challenging bit of their job is that ALL their jump attacks are telegraphed, meaning they are VERY prone to dying: whether it'd be messing up mechanics or yeeting yourself off the platform. This job has an identity of being a floor tank with how easy it is to get yourself killed… In 11, another MMO before this one. This dragoon inherited the floor tanking meme, although Square took steps in making them easier to use.

Monk is a fisticuffs class. They forgo weapons in favor of speed while keeping the same sort of attack power. For every sword strike, they trade in 3 equally powerful punches. The monk is a near extinct class due to a tyrant of the dark side of the 7 chakras wiping out the light side of 7 chakras in his bid of power, royally fucking over both sides of the school. A monk's training is only complete when they unlock all chakras within their bodies. This job has an extremely high skill ceiling where their power output can rival a Black Mage, but only if you can keep up with the upkeep.

Samurai is one of the new classes added into the game. They top the damage charts, but provide no party ultility whatsoever. An extremely selfish class. They are a melee casting class, where while slow all their strikes are very devastating. Other than that, it's self explanatory what a samurai is.

Dark Knight was actually a class added in Heavensward. It's a job thought to have gone extinct over it's heretical practices, harnessing your dark side to command a terrible power. The only thing keeping them from completely turning is the love they hold in their hearts, the entire reason why they'd picked up such a dangerous fighting style to begin with. Even in death, a Dark Knight will continue to fight for what they value most. The only thing scarier than a Dark Knight with purpose is one without a purpose. This tank offers the greatest DPS and damage mitigation.

A Paladin is your typical magical tank that can heal their allies. Originally an elite guard, you'd become a freelancing Paladin offering your shield and holy powers to whomever you deem fit to protect. The best supporting tank where their protection means they can take the hit intended for their allies, or to spawn in a holy wall to shield your entire party from impending doom. A complete 180 from Dark Knights. The dark knights wield a dark and terrible power to combat all foes to beyond the last breath, while a Paladin commands holy power and inspires their allies to keep fighting.

  13. FF14 is the first and only Final Fantasy game I've played so far, and I didn't even want to play it, I was dragged in by a friend to try it out with him. It's now my favourite and most played game.

  14. One thing to know going into Final Fantasy as a franchise is that music is a big part of it. While everyone will have their favorite and least favorite games, the community as a whole will generally agree that there isn't a bad soundtrack to any of the main series.

  15. just imagine your only exposure to final fantasy being "The spirit within". that be like your only reference to dragonball being "Dragonball Evolution" , or knowing of deathnote only through that netflix movie.

  16. The "Paladin/Druid" in the New Era trailer is Odin, the Dark Divinity. He's a godlike monster prowling the forest that you have to fight. And the giant beast in the mountains was Behemoth, one of the most iconic monsters of the Final Fantasy series.

  17. Unfortunately these trailers are starting to build more and more on you already being invested in the game and knowing who's who… But a little help…

1.0 The now defunct game; We see the "Meteor Survivor" (our trailer stand-in character) in the business of picking what kind of task he and his friends are going to do as he gets an "Echo Vision" of a possible future from one. The developers were going to do a LOT more with that mechanic and the big magical beasts that came out of the light in the end… Eventually went nowhere as the game had to be burned down and rebooted… Also note that in this time, our stand-in is an Archer.

The end of 1.0; you actually got "Flames of Truth". In reality when the servers were finally shut down proper everyone got booted out of the game and shown this video up to the point where the 'mentor wizard' Louisouix faded to white. We did absolutely NOT know how anyone survived that day only that somehow we did. The rest where he absorbs all the leftover magic and kills the dragon Bahamut (who was pissed off from being trapped in that moon) we did not get until a long time after as a reward for doing a raid. You then go to…

2.0 ARR: A Realm Reborn. Five years later, the realm seems to be calm again and the heroes reappear from where they were teleported away from certain doom. We get a view of the newly rebuilt places and some dangers that still lurk around (Odin, a Behemoth…). But all is hopeful for a better and new start. As mentioned by you, our movie double is now a Warrior (barbarian like indeed).

3.0 Heavensward: At the end of ARR we are framed for something rather nasty and forced to flee. You see the Meteor Survivor (us, The Derplander) flee from the lands he used to call home and find refuge in Ishgard. There he exchanges his Job as a Warrior for one as a Dragoon to help fight in the war against the Dragons.

4.0 Stormblood: Our name is cleared and life continues. This time we are a lynchpin in not one, but TWO resistance battles against the 'evil' Garlean empire. We bounce around between Ala Mhigo; a somewhat rough mountainous land who used to house an order of Monks (hand-to-hand martial arts job) and the Far East, where we walk around as a Samurai (a totally new Job introduced for the expansion). There we also meet someone whi will be our nemesis for a while to come…

5.0 Shadowbringers: Something totally disastrous is happening in the future. Something that is absolutely not supposed to happen. And in its aftermath we see ourselves wandering the wastelands as an Archer again, experiencing visions and flashbacks of our past when something horrible descends to beat us down. By now, we are known far and wide as "The Warrior of Light" but our Light cannot help us against something that IS Light. You can see ourselves beaten down in all the Jobs we've previously mastered and eventually… to undo the future that must be undone… We become the Warrior of Darkness. (Dark Knight, a job introduced back in 3.0)

6.0 Endwalker: We saved the world, only to have someone just tip the big lever into Armageddon and total annihilation. We've gone from Dark Knight to Paladin (a very heavy FFIV reference) and somehow… to the moon! Our nemesis is also back, as you saw the guy in the fancy armor with the blonde hair.

Now… There are a bunch of recurring characters here who mean more and more to us as a player than to you as a reactor. And a lot of reveals and hooks for the plot to come hinges more and more on what we feel and know about them. And unfortunately, I cannot explain that all without just pointing you to the wikipedia or telling you to play the game for yourself. It's a LOT. Loads of character development and roster changes happened. Which is what I meant with the unfortunate part. It's getting hard to watch or show someone a trailer without a load of caveats or additional notes.

  18. Simple timeline, trying to keep things as generic as possible to avoid spoilers:

Starts in a time of prosperity, but also war.
Then big dragon comes out of the second moon, nearly wipes out all life on the continent. Important people including players 'teleported' to safety by wizard guy. Reason this isn't spoilers is because the game starts past this point now, the old version was nuked from orbit, rather literally.
Five years later, folks have managed to rebuild their society for the most part, but things are still tough. Players show back up, they were actually transported through time.

Keep watching brown haired guy, that's you. You do some stuff, are hailed as a hero, but as spoiler free as possible, ended up being ostracized, so you go to the Snow Kingdom and help the Snow Pope deal with the dragons.

Then you travel the world, helping free different peoples from the bad guys with the mechs.

And I can't even begin to explain the rest without spoilers, everything goes up to 12 real quick.
