Hey, there I am lol love to donate to those that deserve it! And thanks again for the GW2 prespective!
Iâve started GW2 a while back, but never really went all the way with it. I might dig into it while waiting for endwalker as the classes were all very interesting
While I prefer GW2 to FFXIV, I prefer FFXIV's Media Tour to GW2's live Beta. On one hand while playing a class early is amazing the way it was done might have some more negative long term effects.
#1. GW2 is all about buildcraft. For the Beta they let people try out the Elite Specs with any stat choice of armor and weapons. As a result I now know exactly what type of gear I want to go for on Harbinger and while this is great it also means that I'll be spending less time obtaining and trying out various gear. For the player this is great. For the longevity of the game this might be bad as that means more people finish what they want to accomplish and have less of a motivation to keep playing.
#2. Not restricting things in a controlled environment means you have a harder time keeping things secret. During this public beta Dataminers were able to figure out the new weapons for the other 6 Elite Specs that weren't yet revealed. Part of the hype for the new Elite Specs is the speculation of what weapon you'll now have access to and how the spec will use it. That mystery is now gone and it's relatively easy to guess the names/class fantasy of the upcoming specs and how they might play.
FFXIV's Media Tour knows how to build hype without spilling the beans.
All the bugs and datamining already for all the other specializations that has happened in GW2 far outweighs the novelty of getting to beta test the specs for Anet
Eh, I think a closer equivalent of elite specs is just to the new skills you get in the expansion compared to a full new job. Your job generally gets a shift in each expansion in FFXIV, it's basically a different way to play a familiar job, not a whole complete new one. Very cool though, it's not often everyone gets such early access to core expansion features.
Was fun pvping with you guys. đ€đ€
Maybe I don't see it (so it could just be my ignorance), but I hardly ever see a centralized feedback area for developers whenever I'm part of a beta. I see people dropping feedback to official forums, Twitter, reddit, etc..
And even when accepted to a beta, it's usually just a, "Welcome to the beta!" message with no link to where we should be posting feedback. I just wish there was a standard spot for feedback established in these scenarios so that the feedback wasn't tossed around on all these different platforms.
Great video!
If GW2 released more content more regularly, it'd bat FFXIV out of the park.
