FF14 New Player – Completing 2.0 SUCH DEVASTATION, Unlocking Flying and Samurai – Part 13

FF14 New Player First Impressions.
I’ve played WoW for over 15 years but given the state of WoW right now and the lack of content, some of my friends have convinced me to try FF14. So I wanted to document my FF14 first impressions, document my journey through FF14 and give my feedback along the way.

Throughout I will be comparing FF14 to WoW and references the differences between the two. Obviously, I do have some bias, but I will try and keep an open mind all the way.

This is part 13 of the series and there are lot of spoilers here so please be warned. This mainly contains the end of FFXIV 2.0 and the conclusion to the first part of the game.

Also if you have any tips for new players in FF14 please let me as I’m probably making a lot of mistakes. My hotbar is also a complete mess I know, I really need to change it haha

  1. I like that you got to enjoy the last missions of ARR, but I still feel like I should add that normal players might get an extremely different experience.
If you don't have a fanclub joining your adventure, you might end up with people, who kill the bosses in a few seconds. That is if you can actually see it. Some dungeons make it possible for your group to kill the boss, while you are still in the cutscene. You probably didn't get any "BOOOOOOOOOOO" in chat at the start of the last mission. You'll be trying to keep up with speed runners who skip the enemies to get to the next switch.
And you SHOULD try and keep up, because if you don't make it quick enough, you might end up with ten giant enemies bunched up between you and that access, or realize that the elevator is not designed to transport the whole group but whoever made it in time.

And they definitely won't be doing group photos after the job is done.

The best part of the last mission was the one other sprout, who didn't have invincibility gear yet and was killed by something, so I revived him and made it my mission to keep him safe. Also they missed one enemy at the magitech part so I actually got to shoot at something 🙂

Unfortunately the last three missions were so beyond disappointing that I stopped playing story missions. :,(

  2. In Nero fight, someone else have to kill claw for you as you avoid it 😉

Ultima Weapon amazing fight ? – Im glad you liked it but…you know nothing jon snow 😉
Also – do 2.0 MSQ untill credit rolls, that marks true ending of portion ( and its like this for every expansion)

Also – PLEASE DO Titan Hard/Extreme on min iLvl – its a masterpiece fight!

  3. any time i play one of the "boosted" classes, i always do a few lower level dungeons first to get used to the partial kit before taking on something with the whole thing

  4. With the Nero fight and the claws, I really don't think you did anything wrong. As a melee it's pretty much up to other players to kill it before it catches you and knocks you into the electrical field.
And just an aside, I'm glad you're having fun with it!. Just gets better from here on out. So strap in and enjoy the ride! 😀

  5. What you "did wrong" (in the context of this particular mechanic) in the Nero fight was to try to fight the claw that was tethered on you. The tether there is meant to indicate who it's targeting, and it will only target that person, and will knock them back and out of the safe zone if it gets close. So the intended mechanic is for you to run away and let your party take care of it for you… and for you to do the same if they're the ones who get targeted, of course.

  6. im so glad you did Castrum and Praetorium at min ilvl. as a 1.0 player I did those when they were current and no one knew what was going on and they ook forever and was wonderful.
Also, I recommend going into Palace of the Dead for a bit to learn the jobs that start at higher levels. Theres a unique levelling system in Palace, you start at lv 1 and quickly level to 50-60; and its helpful to get your abilities in a small trickel where you can figure out what they do

  7. When you are at 80 with a few other jobs, you will feel good some of the new ones start at 50 or 60. And yea, before trying a new job, I spent a couple of hrs setting up my hotbars, reading what the actions do and then practicing on a dummy.

  8. he thinks THATS a banger? Alright, somebody has to intro him to A Long Fall….(the non-spoiler version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62ezXENOuIA ). Just discovered your channel tonight so it took a bit to catch up but GRATS on lvl 50! Story is gonna go from a 10/10 to like 50/10. You get your first big alliance raids at lvl 50 too, so please Look Forward to that (a certain Best Boy is there <3). Keep enjoying your journey Warrior of Light! And maybe give Thancred a hug, the story likes to keep kicking him in the dick…

  9. Grats on completing 2.0 … now welcome to the beginner gateway.
Used to be something like 150 boring quests before you could progress to HW, and most new players gave up before reaching it… thankfully they patched it to be 'less'.
Just ask people in your stream about 'Pray return to the waking sands!'

  10. So it might be difficult to do the Crystal Tower raids at minimum ilvl, since it's just… something so many people are used to blazing through now, plus it's a 24 man raid. BUT can I recommend that when you find something called "The Binding Coils of…." that you get this group together and do them minimum ilvl again. It's something me and some friends did unsynced for fun and I genuinely feel like I missed out in not getting to experience it properly, it is absolutely one of the thematically best raids in the game.

  11. I struggled a bit with the classes that start at higher level too, I've found it helps me to go for a little run in Palace of the Dead to learn them gradually that way instead of having to remember suddenly 20 abilities! 🙂

  12. I'm really happy you got a full party to do minimum ilvl and fighting everything. My first time was when cutscence were still skippable, people speedrunned this in 10 minutes :') I missed two bosses. Min ilvl is also another level and it's amazing you got to experience it this way. Ultima theme and all it's renditions are just dope.

  13. I really dislike the auto-boosted classes. I really want to level a job from 1 to 80. Having the jump really has a skill gap as people try to learn the class the first few levels.
While it's not a big deal on DPS classes; however, last expansion with Gunbreaker, there were sooooo many horrible tanks who didn't know anything like tank stance, cool down usage and basic rotations. I can only imagine how horrible it will be in Endwalker with a new healer class coming. I'm fully expecting the first few dungeons to be filled with auto-jumped Sages with no clue on how to do the basics of healing or playing the class.

  14. Ooooh. Culinarian. You got good taste. :DDDD

The newer Jobs coming from the released expansions are higher leveled as compared to other Jobs coming from the starter Classes. You may try hitting a Training Dummy to get a feel of how it works, run low-level Dungeons or Palace of the Dead from Floor 1 to get acquainted with your skills and have a kinda similar experience playing the new Jobs from beginner shoes. 🙂

  15. On the classes beginning on high levels. Samurai in question was added in StormBlood, the expansion that made max level go up to 70. Yes, because it starts on high level it takes a while for you to get used to it, but in FF14 prior to ShadowBringers, almost all the skills you get are from story quests in the class. So if they were to make you play Samurai from level 1, they would need to added 3 expansions worth of story when they originally added the class, and that would become a easy snowball with future expansions and newer classes.

  16. I just reached this point. God i was not prepared for cut scenes. I made mistake of planning one dungeon before bed and i would hand in final quest tommorow 😂

  17. I played FF14 from ARR to the beginning of Stormblood, I had all characters to max level, with max gear including all relics, all achievements. I was obsessed! But I always played solo, had no friends in game. Watching your videos about this has made me fallen in love with the game again (even though I still can't play myself). It's SO, SO wonderful hearing how much you enjoy the game just like I did in the beginning. Keep having fun and I wish you a wonderful and successful future.

  18. I don't know if it's been said yet, but if you think the regular version of Ultima Weapon is good, then please do the harder version that is unlocked in Post ARR. It's great, especially if you go at it synced.

  19. There’s an epic rock arrangement of Ultima by the primals. It’s used in game later for a boss series I think you’ll enjoy in shadowbringers

  20. I think it's good that expansion classes start at higher levels. I understand what you mean about progression, but at the same time they were designed to be that way so the progression still feels good even starting at higher level.

And while you do lose that early progression, most people prefer the classes to be that way. In HW the new jobs started at 30 and people didn't like that they essentially had to go backwards in the game to start playing the new classes for 20 levels before they could get back to playing the new expansion. It also wouldn't feel great as a new payer who wants to play a specific expansion job if you had to start at level 1. You'd have to play some job you don't care about just to unlock it, then start all over again. With this, once you unlock the job you can pick right back up at the same level.
