  1. I couldn’t even get through P3S so I doubt I’ll ever even try ultimates. I don’t see a reason really to have such difficult content barely anyone will get to do. Like for the people who do them great I’m happy for you, but why are the devs making content that excludes the majority of the playerbase in the first place? The point of mmos should never be about the difficulty, it should always be about socializing. This is why I believe the alliance raids are the best form of raiding in the game. Imagine if we got 10 alliance raids in the current expansion to do weekly, the community would actually be active again.

  2. During one of the endwalker interviews, Yoshi P literally said "he wants all the players". That's why he invests in hard content, to get some of that audience. Also with PVP (with most of the community's objection to it), housing, RP, single player accessibility, etc.

  3. This video is really good. You explained the reason why hard content is important in a way I've never been able to before. I'll reference this video every time this discussion comes up from now on 🙂

  4. I do like the idea of ultimates but it would be nice to have equally difficult content that can be played more short term or with lower pt members cause it's so hard to commit to a static

  5. there will always be content people prefer or straight up never touch. some people will never touch pvp, never touch crafting, never touch gathering, or never level more than 1 job. i personally don't do savage at all or even watch people do it. but it's nice to know that the devs will try interesting ideas that might come back later.
i know a lot of people have been clamoring for ffxiv pve to have more of the pvp spells and mechanics, but without the pvp rework nobody would've known they wanted such changes.
ultimates and pvp are really niche contents where they can do wacky stuff because the majority of the playerbase won't care to play it.

i would really enjoy having mythic dungeons though.

  6. The problem is that 5% of player base doing ultimate raids, and if you dont have static you need to creater in party finder and wait a lot of hours for fill the party and not reach phase you want, is just a waist of time. I enter in some discord that are doing ultimates like UPR and put recruitment for join in my prog for TEA and is the same time waiting for people join, hours and hours and is always the same people and some other that dont have patient for party fiill. How can my progress be good if i waste my time looking for a party and dont have time to prog? Is just sad, and i always dont find a static to prog this in my time.

  7. It’s kinda baffling honestly. Just because the content isn’t for you doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist or doesn’t deserve dev time. Especially when there’s so few of them in the case of ultimates.

Also ultimate looks like the only content that actually requires healing. Sad that I probably won't be able to try it 😡

  9. I will most likely never even step foot into an Ultimate as I've never cleared a Savage raid (synced, anyway), but I think those fights are really cool. The weapons look awesome, and it's a celebration of that content. The only full fight I've watched is TEA, and it's just…really cool. It throws the kitchen sink of everything you knew from Alexander, and then the kitchen sink stands up and bitch slaps you. Brute Justice, Cruise Chaser, Alexander Prime, Living Liquid….everything. It's a spectacle appreciable even if you've only done the normal versions of the raids. It's just…fun to watch.

  10. Until the game is not producing content worth my sub coughWoWcough I am not going to be bothered by development time invested into Ultimates or any other content I don't sub for. If one day I log in and the new MSQ content or Alliance Raid feels phoned in but the Ultimate is popping then I might reconsider, but so far we haven't been there.

At this point, nope, it will actually lean towards the negative effects. Alot of new players has to understand the design-philosophy that goes into this for ALOT of it's content. Alot of them are not just tossed in in "Hopes that people will do it and enjoy doing it to fill their time.", they don't think shallow like that. Alot of contents are tossed in after MANY years of checking the playerbase, what they do, what they love doing and what they want that they slowly but surely, add it in bit by bit to make this game cater to as many different STYLE of players as possible.

Ultimate was born from this. This wasn't born out of simply adding in a "A SUPER DIFFICULT CHALLENGE FOR PLAYERS TO ENJOY!" No they added in Ultimate, because as Savage has gotten more accessible and quicker to clear (Seriously from ARR times to now, Savage has become much easier to proggress through), the hardcore players the skilled players the people who put in 150% of their effort into this game for endgame, wanted something more. So, they made Ultimate SPECIFICALLY for these players. That's it.

And if there's people out there saying Ultimate should be removed cause "only the Minority does it" and think this will make FFXIV better…Then you also believe that also removing Ocean Fishing, Diadem, Firmament, all the low-level dungeons, old normal/savage raid, Treasure Maps, Eureka, Beast Tribe Rep Grind, Bosja, Gposing and so forth would make FFXIV better? Because I promise you alot of these side-content only a very small player base actually go through now at this point in the game and even bother touching now. Look through alot of streamers and possible survey, and I promise there will be side-content out there that possibly only a small minority touches. Should these be removed as well?

Absolutely not. All of these side-content exists specifically for those player-base. They made content FOR these player-base to come onto the game, to do and enjoy in their own way. Every content up until this point has been added and improved purely, because they found a small but engaging community that loves that part of FFXIV. ALOT of people gave Yoshi.P and his team shit for the Gpose update in Shadowbringers. But thanks to the update to Gpose, twitter has been a fun place to see the Gposes people has come to create from FFXIV.

This game is NOT catered to 1 Type of Player, or 2 or 3. This game is catered to everyone who simply loves the world of FFXIV in their own way. Raiders, housing fanatics, Gpose Enthusiasts, a place to just wind-down gathering/fishing, listening to beautiful music, roleplaying, gathering cosmetics EVERYTHING. And its' why to this day this game is amazing, and continues to become even more so.

  12. I love FFXIV, But i am as casual it can be, that said. I don't think it would be better without Ultimates. Leave it in for the very small percentage of people that does enjoy the higher content, it's there anyway already. It does not affect my gameplay in any way.

  13. What a fucking stupid question. Of course not.
No one is gatekeeping anyone. You don't need a four-digit IQ to clear an Ultimate. You just need time and dedication, two basic things in life. By the way, you are not losing anything if you don't wanna do it. The game is fun in almost everything it offers. Plus, it isn't gatekeeping by putting in behind Savage. If you can't beat Savage, you'll be decimated in Ultimates.

  14. This is the best take I've heard on the importance of high tier content. And some of that trepidation is that players look at that luxury sports car mode and forget that this is an MMO with a startling amount of common sense. The barrier to entry is probably as friendly as it ever will be compared to MMO's like WoW where so much prep for a raid is a given. Will everyone want to do it? No. But having the door open where anyone can reasonably at least clear content if they put in the effort is what matters (that's not an endorsement to make every encounter equivocally the same, but to make it so anyone can challenge themselves to whatever degree they want to sign up for) . In real life you can't just jump into the Olympics if your feeling like it one day and show some modicum of respect by understanding the rules. MMO's can be as pie in the sky as they want and you can get lost in your own progression through the world – be that master raider or master cosplayer.

  15. I don't do Ultimate stuff, or even Savage, since when it comes to difficulty in games, having to rely on other people or have other people rely on me is more stressful than fun… But I like seeing other people do it and I'm absolutely glad to see it's there.

The only thing I don't like is the people so intent on being world first, they won't share their progress in fear of being copied.

  17. People looking for "aspirational content" in games really need to do something productive with their lives. Get married. Have a family. Find a productive, high paying job. Do something constructive and meaningful with your life other than clicking pixels all day long. Social Security will NOT be able to sustain you financially by the time you reach that age and realize that you just wasted your entire life away playing video games….

  18. This game has a problem with mid content.

Minstrel in endwalker is clearly far worse than Thordan and Shinryu equivalent. Thematically and difficulty wise.

I just hope they allocate their resources sufficiently not to hinder other contents.

  19. Ever since big name streamers took on 14 and beat the ultimates, Ive noticed A LOT more "legend" titled players just hanging around. I will probably never get to do even savage content due to my crippling social anxiety that sadly bleeds into my mmo experience which prevents me from finding a static.
This means that i will also never touch an ultimate either. Sadly my gamer/adventurer soul burns to try these fights as well. I turned 30 last year and my reaction time isnt what it use to be and I've learned to be more casual too as not to affect my health.
Even still maybe one day I can overcome and find a static to run me through savages and ultimates…

  20. Some players would say island sanctuary is a waste of time. Others would probably punch you in the nose for saying so. It's good for games to be versatile.

  21. I am a casual player and I think it’s great that the Ultimates are there for the players that want/like that content. They should never be required for MSQ, but it is wonderful as optional content.
