FFXIV: Patch 6.1 MSQ References/Easter Eggs [SPOILERS]

Me? Fine then!
Golby, Gobly, Cecil’s real brother
Lunarian
Brainwashed, confined
Just like Kim ******
All for the sake of Zemus-sama’s world
As long as Golbez-sama wills it
Go forth! My all powerful Four Lords of the Elements!

Special thanks to Maxine on Carbuncle for helping me find the FFXI mobs. And thanks to Sinon Monbuns and Sho Ryuuken on Midgardsormr for providing the minions I was missing. ❤️

  1. Wow Mericam! This is an amazing video! FF11 is the only FF i've not fully played, so it was cool to see the references from it!
I got the general idea of the other references on my 6.1 playthrough but you just go into so much more detail and explain it in a considerably more detailed way, I love it!

Love watching your FFXIV videos, keep up the good work! ^-^

  2. Thank you for posting this one! Never played FFXI, so I didn't know about all the references at the time, and definitely appreciate the insight. 😀

  3. Never heard anyone call it "Hawk" manor or "gooble" library xD

I always read it as "How-Kay" and "Goo-Ball".

I didnt know about all the XI throwbacks cuz… Well I never played XI. Still not interested in it either, tbh. I know I like Prishe (thanks to D012) and Iroha courtesy of Dissidia: Opera Omnia. I really appreciate all these little nods and straight up throwbacks. XIV really is just "Final Fantasy: The Greatest Hits: Vol. 3" (I think Dissidia is Vol. 2).

  4. The Knight in Black scene made me audibly gasp and cover my mouth in shock. I can't wait to see where this is going. As a massive fan of FFIV I couldn't be happier that it's getting so much love.

  5. Awesome video! I never played ffxi, FFXIV was only the 2nd mmo I ever played so it was interesting to see where this all came from. Still excited about the FFIV references and what will happen with Golbez. I first played FFIV on snes so I’m really excited to see where the expansion goes

  6. something mildly interesting to note: Final Fantasy XI just recently did a collab with the game Granblue Fantasy where the kicking-off point was the GBF MC getting sucked into a Cavernous Maw…
If I had a nickel for every time in the past couple months something referenced FFXI's Cavernous Maws, i'd have two nickels… which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice

  7. god these restricted books were the best xD I side with the Ultros summon xD I also think Louisoix called upon their power and light to manifest in his words instead of their true form, i assume Louisoix would be powerfull enough with the prayers of the scions to hold back the true forms 😮

  8. Nice video!

I will point out — the throne room does somewhat resemble FFXI's "Walk of Echoes". Given the use of Cavernous Maws one could assume they may borrow quite a bit more from the wings of the Goddess expansion.

  9. I didn't realize major parts of the new dungeon was referencing FF11, I really enjoyed this video, thank you for enlightening me on a lot of the cool stuff this game does so subtly!

  10. In the announcement trailer for 2.0 ARR, End of an Era, I think the summoning is more of a calling for a divine intervention rather than an actual summoning of the 12. In 1.0 we already knew the destruction of a primal could actually do and the Aether amount it took to summon 1 primal. To Summon the 12 of them was out of the question with the limited amount of time until Dalamud fell, additionally it would have inflamed Garlemald even more if 12 primals were to be summoned in the 1.X story (from a we want to conquer you, to we must conquer you now). A divine intervention on the other hand is a sincere momentary favor/answer coming from a divine deity, out of a prayer of faith formed by faithful (aka, a answered miracle). The problem (in the case of FFXIV lore as I see it) is the power required for the spell to be successful vs the power of the prayers of deliverance from the Meracydians (and the Aether of the heavens to power that prayer) is not even close to being equal, Primal Bahamut's source and Aether broke the spell through sheer force (Same thing happened with Shinryu and Papalymo's spell). If the Aether used to cast and maintain the spell is equal to or greater to the primal being contained, hypothetically the spell will hold without an ego to cause any further problems (A divine intervention has no thought, its pure action). Out of the two options; Summoning the 12 or the Containment of what is inside the red moon, containment is the less resource heavy and situational/strategically the less likely to cause an issue in the long run given the situation that was happening at the time. Just my hot take

  12. Y'sthola mentioned the atmos were sited before the seventh umbral calamity which is a reference to the end of 1.0 where Atmos were messing with the aetherytes and spawning monsters

  13. Real good video, my only feedback would be to maybe increase the volume of your voice in the editing ? I feel like it's a bit low, considering you talk in a very calm and inquisitive voice.

  14. Another great video Meri! Love the inclusion of the FFXI footage. FFXI is seeming to get a little bump of visibility days and it’s nice to see current FFXIV fans learn about XI and even try it out themselves.

  15. The many references are great for fans, but hope they don't take too much of previous titles especially when it comes to story for plot-reasons.
It would be poor, if old fans could spoil the story, like book-readers to series/movie-viewers. At least when it comes to the MSQ.

  16. Having never played FF4, I was clueless about these references. But it's pretty exciting to see them used here. The only one I got was the Void Avatar cuz I can't stand the character this one is attached to and was immediately annoyed to see it in the cut scene. So up until this point I was just really frustrated and a little discouraged that we still have to put up with such a bad character. But the FF4 and 11 stuff has me curious to know more again.. So maybe, I can put that aside for now. I just hope that the role the Void Avatar plays is a brief one that doesn't lead to bringing back the absolute trash it was part of.

  17. I am not gonna lie, I would be kinda disappointed if Zenos' avatar is not named Zemus. Or, even better – Zeromus. Not FFIV fans will find it lame, yeah, but such is the price of tying things together.

  18. 10:50 Well, Louisoix never meant to summon the Twelve, he meant to invoke the power of the Twelve. It was always meant to be just a seal.
And the gods themselves confirmed that what Louisoix did had nothing to do with them, but indeed manifestations of faith.

13:05 Oh yes, and all the times you get thrown out of the Treasure Hunt Dungeon, it’s also an Atomos-like creature. Perhaps an automaton?

  19. As an XI vet this patch made me so happy, especially since ToAU was my favorite expansion (PUP life 4eva) and given that they did the XI crossover event again not long after it's release, I feel like they're really trying to remind us of how heavily implied it is that Vana'diel is one of the shards. I would love to see what CBU3's interpretation of Vana'diel would be and my secret fangirl hope is that we get to go there in an expansion some day.
