Why I Quit WoW for FFXIV

I played World of Warcraft from 2005 to 2021. I tried out Final Fantasy 14 in 2017 but didn’t give it a true fair chance until 2021 and I’ve been addicted since 2022.

  1. I personally couldn't even get into WoW when I tried years ago, leveling was so boring and when people couldn't play with me to make the grinding less boring that pretty much brought down my motivation to 0.

Thankfully FF14's story (past ARR) is good enough to where I can mostly play solo and still have a good time.

  2. As someone who's been playing FFXIV for the last 6 years or so, I can honestly say most of the gripes you mentioned about WoW are what you'll run into on FFXIV once you reach the end of the current expansion.

You'll either run the same dungeons or roulette trials every day to obtain tombstones for gear. If you decide to do extreme or Savage trials, you'll be doing the same fights to obtain gear and mounts and that's weekly capped. The new Crystaline Conflict PVP is really fun. There's also ultimate trials for the hard-core players. The questing system outside of the main story quests is VERY lack luster although it provides from lore about the area if you're into that kind of thing. Glam hunting (or armor farming) is the biggest activity for most people and a lot of people will say that's the true endgame.

Other than that, there's crafting and beast tribe quests that are usually "go here and kill stuff" daily quests for the most part. There's a lot of "fluff" activities like the Gold Saucer, minion farming, squadrons, trusts, delivery missions, etc. They just provide stuff to do while giving the opportunity for rewards as well.

The thing about FFXIV is that you can use one character and don't have to make a ton of alts like in WoW so you can try other jobs and level them as well. The MSQ is great but once you finish and you're just kind of wandering around, I feel like any game will lose its luster if you've been playing it for such a long period of time. Hell, I get bored playing FFXIV and take breaks from time to time.

  3. I could replace your voice in this video with my own and it would still fit perfectly. I agree with everything you said as someone who also joined the game last year.

  4. 0:50 The game is indeed a lot of fun with the right guild, but sadly the community is just so rotten… I still love WoW but the community ruined my experience daily. I'm very happy you and me found a new home in FFXIV, a game that actually feels like an MMO.

  6. It's always great seeing sprouts find their new passions in Eorzea. Welcome, have fun, and don't forget to take breaks to avoid burn-out. There is a lot of relevant content and personal goals you can set for yourself!

  7. Welcome aboard.
Keep in mind that while the endgame grind is similar to that of WoW's – There's no borrowed power system, and catchup mechanics are plentiful. There is also a great deal of persuits that are not about endgame advacement. In fact, unless you enjoy hardcore rading, there's zero insentive to do it. You play what you enjoy in FFXIV and there's a wide breath of content to go around? Bored with Tomestone Grinding in PvE? Give PvP a shot. Don't like pushing with groups and want some solo action, you can solo Challenge Heaven on High or Palace of the Dead. There's even new coneent you can challenge solo or with up to 4 players coming up with variable difficulties. (4 Players for the higher difficulties.)

Don't like combat? There's crafting, gathering, gardening housing – you've been to Golden Saucer. And this is all without touching player made content like dance clubs, plays, player music – heck, there's even a Player made in game Convention called Lunarcon that's celebrating it's second year coming up. There's so much to sink into.

And when you don't feel like playing. Don't! This game is designed for you to play at your own pace – and they take great steps to insure that. So have fun and explore as you like. And thanks for giving FFXIV a shot!

  8. From a former wow player(14years) to you. a wow refugee. I welcome you to FFXIV. I have a suggestion for when your have completed Enwalker MSQ and unlocked flying in every zone. Try the A Rank hunt trains, that is done on every data center, on every world. I think you may enjoy those:). I "conduct" organise and lead one of these trains on Famfrit, and I;ve gotten feedback from new players like yourself, that they really enjoyed it. Most importantly, take your time and enjoy the MSQ and the music of ffxiv!
