  1. I wonder if something like WoW’s raid warning would work. Raid warning forces popup text on the middle of the screen along with WoW’s equivalent of FFXIV’s danger bongos. For example, raid lead could type /rw C GET IN THE BELLY! And the entire raid would see it in big orange letters on the middle of your screen. It was rarely abused even in WoW’s trolliest groups, so I bet it could work in FFXIV.

  2. Why would anyone want to play the Janitor? You get paid the least, you get locked out PF due to low wages, and you'll never be cool. Meanwhile Tanks get to do more damage, fuck up for a living and get away with it, and get paid by Yoshida directly.

  3. I know this community has a habit of going into defense mode a little too hard when someone doesn't like something they do and simultaneously going too hard when talking about something they don't enjoy. So we end up with a lot of people just trying to be defiant over honest. I wasn't a fan of smile the song, music was fine. I wasn't even a fan of the ultima thule song either, so maybe that kinda vibe isn't my thing. And it really doesn't matter end of the day, no reason to work so hard to justify what you do and don't like all the time. What made me lose respect was simply how certain people handled it not being liked.

  4. This is why I take a multi-layered approach to making sprouts look at chat, but the core principle is provoking them into making them talk:

    1. Normal chat
    2. Using <se.1~16> almost excessively
    3. [Last resort] Spamming different signs on their head

If they get provoked (pissed) enough to talk back and ask, you're good

  5. I know this is from early on in the video, but I don't really care if you're on PS. Just buy a wired/wireless keyboard. The cheapest one works. If you're impaired or such I can kind of understand, but there are plenty of people that have disabilities who can not only play the game really well, but also chat. If nothing else, make a macro with a sound. True they may not have sound on. But then that's on them for still not noticing. I started this game on ps3, and have made sure to have one. Anyways, apologies.

  6. my bf and i always start a duty with our hi hellos, and if a sprout is doing something wrong or not understanding something, he knows a LOT about ff cause he's been on it for 7+ years now, so he will help guide them, most usually respond and are okay with it, we really haven't ever had any angry people or silent players, and we also have a friend that types through their ps5, so that person saying they cant cuz they dont have a keyboard is either lazy or needs to practice using the onscreen keyboard.

  7. i truly do not get the communities focus around the smile song. either you like it or you dont and that could be said about any other song in ffxiv… why do people need to yap so hard and be so insufferable complaining about this song. the ffxiv just proves itself to truly be full of the worst types of people day in and out…

  8. Totally feel the lack of swimsuits.
Imagined during that 'chill' bit of the MSQ, you head to a store and buy a swimsuit, go to a changing room to put it on, then interact with some spot in the water to have a little cutscene of you water-floating, before going to doze on beach-chair while the sun sets. The quest then gives you the swimsuit outfit to keep.
Instead Wuk drags us for a pointless walk to scream how much she loves smiles and happiness.

  9. It was a bad idea to split healers in half when it's already lower population. Why shouldn't AST/WHM be a viable combo? It doesn't add any interesting gameplay and makes it even harder to find a healer team.

  10. I think there's still worth to give advice through the chat on how to resolve mechanics but I don't think it makes sense to expect people to both read and be able to adjust quick enough before the mechanic resolves. FFXIV is an easy game in most cases but not everyone is at the same skill level. Looking at chat isn't hard but its still an action that they have to do while doing everything else. They have to 1. Look at chat taking their eyes off the danger 2. read the word/sentence you wrote 3. understand what it means and adjust all while doing whatever they're doing. Dawntrial is evidence enough with the whole "drama" on people finding dungeons too hard while most others like me were able to easily understand and adjust to the cues.

The simple thing is to give advice in the same way but don't feel bad if they die / wipe / or can't adjust in time. Deaths are ok and wipes are ok especially with dungeons where 90% of people learn from their own deaths and are equally willing to hear/understand between pulls because they now have the time to. The problem exists and should only exist with the people who are unwilling to try and grief because of that.

  11. Pretty sure the issue with Smile is that, tone wise, the singer did a rough job. There is a cover by Pealeaf of the song going around, sung in the same octave, that displays the difference really well. It's not really the songs fault at all but even somebody that is tone-deaf can hear the distinct mistakes that Akino made. Maybe her voice was out of sorts for some reason, maybe she was getting sick, maybe Sqenix didn't want to do another take once she felt better. Or maybe this just wasn't her type of song and her vocals just didn't fit for it, but there are several times where her voice is literally about to break so she extends the note to cover it up.

But people assume they didn't like Smile not for the vocals but the song as a whole which, by most conversations, wasn't peoples problem. Yeah most people think it is a kinda meh song in terms of composition and lyrics but the real deal breaker in most cases have been the vocals.

And then WL's VA having a fit over it didn't help anything since WL as a character has been equally dividing amongst the community so it was just fuel on the fire.

On a different note: my experience with sprouts in dungeons has been that they play controller not keyboard and that number is growing. I just macro "Hello X, if you need any mechanics explained please jump up and down if you are on controller and I'll remember to explain them. If you can type feel free to."

I get a lot more responses with that than I used to with "Hello X, if you need help with mechanics let me know."

  12. On the healer discussion funny for me it's the opposite WHM feels so chill and relaxing to me compared to dps like melee.
I can sit back watch the mechanics and the party and press glare.

  13. As for healers, I play Scholar main, the biggest issue is that SE doesn't know what to do with healers, never did. They keep buffing sustain on tanks while healers get crumbs. Scholar for example in DT is not a viable healer in most content because of how outdated it's kit is. While WHM can heal 30.000+ HP with it's AOE, Scholars can only heal like 20.000+ and have a 30-60 seconds countdown on it's AOE healing, as WHM, AST don't. As for Sages, they are just better then Scholar. But people still defend Scholar's yet the same people would never touch Scholar or play it, so they don't have the experience of the struggles Scholars main have compared to other healers. And yes, Scholar should be Shields and Mitigation, but with how weak Scholar shield is right now, it is basically useless to use unless you use Recitation which also is 60 seconds CD.

  14. For content like Crystal Tower, I'm on EU, I've just had floor markers for practically a decade now. For the Atmos sections, and for Phlegethon. Quick and easy way to (hopefully) direct people towards their hallway. What SHOULD be mentioned though, is that if anyone's slow, they're automatically put in alliance A's/left hallway, which scuffs the whole thing.

On Savage, I haven't done a lot, but I guess they're feeling those forum threads threatening healer strike 😅 (While dumb, that was also a knee-jerk reaction to Xenosys running the first dungeon sans healer, as WAR. Whose self-healing is absolutely stupid)
Healers and tanks are almost always the less played roles, even combined Vs number of DPS. Yes, it's 8 classes Vs like 13, but my guess is healers are played even less, because people just don't wanna deal with being blamed for DPS messing up, not using Rescue to save folks, just being at fault for things that are other players' mistakes.

  16. People who complain about healing already play healer jobs in high end. People who would probably try out healing will never do cause its too stressful for them. I know a lot of people who are healers but dont want to play high end content as a healer cause they play heal to heal not to barse dps and they find it stressful that they need to do triple the work with much easier rage comments from others. If a picto fucks up mechs and dies 3 times, making healer run out of mana and not able to cast shields – who do you think PF blames for death on raid wide? Every time i see healers saying "i dont have much to do" good for you, try leaving your static for two minutes and go into PF. 😛 suddenly you will have a lot to do. When you cant talk with your co healer, when half the party doesnt use their mitigation or blows off all their mits on the first raid wide, suddenly you will find things much less boring.

  17. Having the chat make a noise has been a massive help for me but I agree that it probably wont help sprouts if they didn't set it up themselves and therefore know what it means. Hell for the longest time I had no idea that LB filling up made a noise and assumed the sound was someone's skill or something lol

  18. The game needs better tutorials and a better default UI for new players. I also think Crystal Tower needs a redesign because they have redesigned Praetorium many times to match closer to what you would expect later. CT has points where 12 players do nothing or in the case of the boss that turns A into ghosts and lets the rest of the alliances do nothing : 16. It also lets you stack the stack markers since they changed the blue mark they had for that with the standard one which does not teach you that it will kill you when you encounter that later. I am of the opinion that ARR should teach without chat window based on having a keyboard or headset not being required or free with the game on three of the available platforms.
