I agree about recommended gear, you'll be totally fine with it. I've only had once or twice in ARR where it tried equipping the wrong thing because of how much gear is just DoW or DoM instead of split into the categories we have now.
Shen should let Vulpixie know that FFXIV doesnt strike streams with game audio because she mutes all game audio in her VODs

Recommended gear goes by main stat, then sub stat inclusive of melds. The latter is only important if you have separate "spell speed" and "crit" gear, for example.
It breaks for tanks below lvl 61, since all gear have VIT, and tanks' main stat is VIT, so you may get gear without STR on it and all (combat) classes gear stopped at Stormblood. It's worse below 50, since some caster gear are all classes.
It also breaks for melded crafter and gatherer gear since the main stats are what you can meld, but that's only a problem if you are in the middle of leveling them.
Watching this reminds me of when I introduced my friend to FFXIV. They play on and off now but they've made it to Shadowbringers, and it's always so fun to watch them play, like that was me at one point!
