Our Final Fantasy 14 journey continues! Today we are talking about some of the biggest differences you’ll notice when trying FFXIV for the first time!
Welcome back to Tiny Blue Games! My name is Csaw or Chris, and today we are talking about Final Fantasy 14 in 2021. Today we are looking at some of the things that FFXIV does differently than other MMORPGs on the market. This is the perfect video for players that are looking at trying FFXIV for the first time or coming back after not enjoying the game in the past.
As a relatively new ffxiv player, I have enjoyed giving my first impressions of the many different pieces of content this game has to offer. If you are interested in exploring the game yourself I suggest you check out the Final Fantasy 14 free trial. This trial lets play all the way to level 60 (including both the base ARR and Heavensward expansion), with no time restrictions. It was ultimately the free trial that convinced me to dive into the full game and the new Shadowbringers expansion!

Thanks for watching
I agree with your take on the story.
For me, the story is pretty much an interactive series of heroic fantasy book,. which is why it became my favorite video game story.
Most other story-driven games are more like an interactive movie/short TV show. Character development and world building just hit differently in Eorzea, because they take their time to develop it. Of course this leads to some pretty major pacing problems at times, but for me it just makes it feel more natural.
By the way, plenty of other players probably told you, but if you already think this is the best video game story you have seen, I am looking forward to see how you will do to rank it higher after completing Shadowbringers 😛
I dunno. I thought the story was pretty typical anime stuff.
RDR2? Now THAT'S writing.
HW was great. Stormblood has driven me away again. The pacing and quest design in this game are awful. Playing for a couple hours and only spending 15 minutes of game time actually pressing my abilities is not my idea of fun. I really want to get to the end game , but the sometimes great often mediocre MSQ is such a huge barrier. Visual novels aren’t my thing I guess.
You have a unique ASMR vibe way of explaining your thoughts. Definitely a nice change of pace. Keep it up.
Don't have to jump through giant covenant sized hoops…

My least favorite thing that might very well be a dealbreaker already is the forced multiplayer main quest missions with queues that are often horrifyingly long if you happened to choose a DPS class to start, even at peak times on largely populated servers in my region.
I want to do multiplayer content. It is an MMO after all. However, I don't bloody well want to be FORCED to sit in a potentially hour-long (or LONGER) queue to get past a frigging level 15 main quest, where you can't progress the main story in any way, shape, or form until you finish it. I don't want to go back and level another damned job with a different role just to get a shorter queue, either. That's absurd.
Put all the multiplayer quests you want in the game. Fine. But please. FFS. Let me do it when I damned well please. Not as a gatekeeping part of the main quest. Moreover, don't literally punish me for having the gall to choose the starting class I did, no less.
Thanks for the spoilers in the Heavensward cutscenes! Damn it!
Story is a major part of Final Fantasy games in general, and FFXIV is no exception. I would definitely advise newcomers to take their time and start with the free trial unless they feel the urge to sub at some point. I’m glad I chose to start playing this game at the beginning of this year. This is now one of my favorite games of all time. I’m looking forward to the next expansion 😄
When it comes to the MSQ normaly the complaines come from the wow mindset off people who focus end game, cus they think thats the end all be all.
A side note on difficult content in the game, it's not something everyone does but there's a niche group that challenges the Deep Dungeon content solo. Palace of the Dead and Heaven on High has score leaderboards in those groups and everything to be competitive over plus rushes for world-firsts on jobs that haven't been cleared over the past few years with it. It's not for everyone but it's 100% something to consider for anyone who may want more than just the smattering of savage/ultimate raids given.
Rushing to the end game is what's wrong with the current MMO. Back then it was a trip grinding in Ragnarok Online and just chatting with my guildmates, nowadays everyone just tunneling into end game and barely remember anything they did in the process.
One character all class is the thing that hooked me in ffxiv
I like everything about this game except the combat. It's just too slow.
I do the exact same thing, I use a different job with each xpac, looking forward to the Sage for EW! (Reaper too, but Sage is my choice for story)
ive played ffxiv arr since beta phase 3 ( have had a few breaks ) spent 100s of millions on houses lost 100s of millions on houses ( auto demolish ) biggest issue is the gated dungeons for the storyline its really puts a wall on alt story run throughs and the story is amazing imo .. everything else really good no real money gambling like ESO no over the top pearl spends in BDO and WOW well WOW is just too old and outdated these days should have been killed off years ago for a new and up to date mmo !! Funny though while i move on to other games now its not ffxiv 24/7 as it once was i will always pre order and play the new expansions ( digital collectors edition of end walker pre ordered already ) because it will be awesome and i dont mind throwing money at a company that give constant updates fixes issues really quickly and offers a decent enjoyable game!!
I love the music through dungeons. It adds to the build up to the last boss
When you talk about new players to wow not seeing the story, it is even worse as every wow expansion the majority of the important story happened at the expansions endgame, that will never be seen by new players.
Omg dude, I think I saw your character in my server! Totally not going to stalk you. I’m a big ol’ gw2 vet, and saw your gw2 vids. Didn’t know you play this too!
It's up to the players to build a community where stopping to smell the roses is encouraged. As well as playing the game and figuring it out for yourself instead of reading and watching all the guides, thus spoiling the magic of a first hand experience.
"Covenant-sized hoops"
I see what you did thar.
