To be fair, the 'main narrative' of WoW has always been stupid. Like, actually look at the story of Wrath of the Lich King. It's nonsensical, but they nailed atmosphere. Being able to do that, increases the slack for suspension of disbelief. If you don't nail it (infinite afterlives in 4 zones, supermax prison of torghast for dailies, titan +++ gigabrain threat with stupid plans), then your suspension of disbelief snaps.
Logical consequences, consistency in the rules of the setting, concrete history, etc are all ways to support a suspension of disbelief and WoW has been systematically shitting on all of for years.
That was sweet at the end
I find myself wanting to swap back to wow from ff14. Same reasons acco mentioned, wows open world, the music, the art style. To me, wow gets that better than ff14. However gameplay and storywise, ff14 completely blows wow out of the water. Gear is simple, classes are balanced well and you dont fully have to fear of not being viable. You can play any class on one character and you dont lose out on your progress on reps or professions. Professions are invested in and stay relevant. All content is encouraged but not required. You do not have to do anything not involving your choice of endgame to get geared or rewarded. And one of my favorite things, every detail in the story has a purpose.
