  1. Their lighting system was busted with the patch that changed the MSQ into 3 dungeons. We noticed light on the face was just off ever since. Since we have DLSS now, can we also have ray traced global illumination as an option please? Shadows and reflections too!

  2. A 3d object is created by mapping triangles onto a 3d surface. At each corner of each triangle, there must be a colour and a normal vector. The normal vector allows your graphics card to calculate the lighting for each corner of the triangle. Without normal vectors, a 3d sphere would look like a flat 2d circle. The reason why the new lips at the start of the video look flat, is probably because the normal vectors are wrong.

  3. I think people just need to adjust their characters post Graphics update. Or at least I think thats what the main issue is. The generic good looking face may not look as good anymore.

  4. Some of the criticisms I get, but a lot of them I feel is straight up complaining to complain. This is one graphic update (that we can assume they are still working on currently) and will continue to flesh out over the years. Expecting things to be rough at first should have been a no brainer. It does not warrant delaying DT, people will just have to suck it up and be patient; providing reasonable & proper feedback(Not "this eyebrow isn't straight" bs), as the updates keep coming. Try playing a different race for the time being if it bothers you that much. You've seen what they look like now with the Benchmark and will be getting a free fantasia to use.

  5. The graphics update is ok, but I think that's honestly less concerning than what the gameplay is going to end up being. I'm not ok with Yoshi-P saying "oh he fell asleep playing; they're going to fix things". They didn't go the extra mile to explain how they are going to fix the game. Acknowledging the problem is the first step, but I'm starting to doubt they can deliver on their promises. The graphical update was buggy and not phenomenal (mostly a semi-decent update at best), so it's not a good sign.

  6. I feel like they have time to fix stuff from complaints that some players have. Remember when Hroth had their ears show up again with new hairstyles after feedback? The Viera nose was also fixed in the benchmark already which I was happy about. So I think stuff like Miqo's fangs will return in the final game.

  7. If you're looking for a great character creator, look no further then Champions Online, it has the single best character creator ever. Now the rest of the game is fairly lacklustre, but the creator, is easily the best out there.

  8. Damn some of yall in the comments everywhere can only see this shit as black and white. I feel like the people I've seen complaining aren't saying it looks like total shit, just usually pointing out specific tweaks to improve things.

  9. People are mostly likely getting these washed out look because of the auto HDR setting in their windows os. They are on by default when FFXIV is launched. You can turn them off by going to HDR settings in windows.

  10. Please IGNORE the glitches. The benchmark is NOT a preview of 8.0. It is a completely separate piece of software where they either exported 99% of the game out or only imported 1% in from nothing.

So, there is absolutely no reason to assume that the benchmark glitches will carry over to 8.0. None at all.

Also. Many of the official forums posters are and have long been trolls that bait responses by saying ridiculous things and getting people to comment back to them and keep their threads alive for months or even years.

  11. In my opinion and with peace and love…jesus christ of ladder day saints, this is just not this big of a deal. Different doesn't mean bad. I thought that was the thing we should all be subscribing to?

  12. Certain things are sure, let's ask them to fix it. The misquote teeth. Some of the mouth shapes.

But they are increasing the number of polygons and updating the textures. It will NOT be 1:1 comparison. If your character looked exactly the same, then there is no graphical update!

People are going way to far in the miniscule changes. Lots of extra noise that is ridiculous. Focus on the actual changes that are present for no apparent reason.

  13. I tried to tell people that a lot of players don't like the graphical update and it's not enough and I got laughed at and the responses got pretty feral. Any form of criticism seems to attract the more rabid playerbase that thinks I'm calling the game shitty, when I'm not. I'm saying they could improve what they have and are working on.

  14. Honestly, it takes me a second or two at times to figure out which one is the update. I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing. Considering the push back, maybe they didn't go far enough since the differences outweigh the graphical enhancements for many.

  15. They need to add HDR support and actually fix the color in the game. That's one thing im really looking forward too and hopefully they do it, would be nice to not have to use reshade.

  16. Some of the faces look a little bit too different from the original and I can see why that would be devastating for some people but besides the lips…they need to fix the lips, I think that they look so sooo so much better in so many ways. Some things are just too subjective and I hope they can make the fixes in time but not actually dail things back because I am so happy with my Viera lol

  17. The benchmark is incredible, as far as I'm concerned. My character (female elezen Duskwight) looks fabulous, and I really have zero complaints. But I'm also not overly worried about the any unpolished sections and issues that I have seen because I feel like there are still things that might not be fully finished (for example, as far as I heard, the new lighting engine is not included in the benchmark). and basically, I want to reserve judgement until full release. But also, I've seen a ton of people who are spazzing out on Reddit over nothing. For example, going extremely hyperbolic with the, "This has ruined my life! I'M DEVESTATED!!1!" Then posting Before and After images where the majority of the commenters are in agreeance that the AFTER is much, MUCH better, or, there is an infinitesimally negligible difference that really just comes down to "These are exceedingly minor differences that are ultimately to be blamed on the graphics just being different in GENERAL and something you will get used to once your eye adjust to the new graphics."

THAT SAID, I am not saying that there aren't any changes that look bad, there are, and its fair to hope that those will be fixed. Those complaints are valid, but I really feel like even in those cases, people need to take several chill-pills and try to launch their complaints in constructive, calm, and respectful ways instead of "MY LIFE IS OVERRRRRR BECAUSE OF THIS!11!1!!!"

  18. This isnt a graphics upgrade, its a graphics compatibility update for xbox release. Thats why you look like swtor now, which had the same style of change when they ported to xbox too.

But this game cant survive rapid aging like this. It went from 2014 graphics to 2011 graphics.

  19. I checked my cat-boy main and my xaela-Au Ra-female alt in the benchmark, and there was nothing truly wrong with either of them. In fact, my cat-boy looked even better and manly now. My Au Ra was very good too, but with better lighting, it would be better, that much I admit.

The benchmark is another way for the devs to receive feedback on the graphics, and then to see, how they can improve it. I believe they will continue to improve the graphical update until the DT releases, and after.
