The Implications of FFXIV's New Job, Viper!

It’s not every day someone’s prediction lands so spot on, so you can dang well bet I’m going to enjoy riding this for a while. haha

But despite my victory lap, I’m very excited to see how Viper plays and what lore is waiting for us in the future! Let me know in the comments what you’re most excited for in Dawntrail as well as your own predictions on FFXIV’s new job, Viper!

  1. I am BEYOND happy that you were right scribe. I had convinced myself that it would be Corsair due to its popularity but when I saw Yoshi P with those blades, I had to pinch myself. I’m always a twin blade dex build in Elden ring and I’m so happy my favorite class will finally be in my favorite game.

Side note, as a current DNC main, I’m eager to hear more about my lore. Til next time scribe

  2. I am so so so very dissapointed in seeing viper be a dps job, we already have nin and it looks like its just the same BUT WITH A DOUBLE EDGE MODE wooooow
like before shadow bringers I would have been super happy with this class but now after the homogonisation of classes that shadowbringers brought in making every class group feel super similar with dot removals etc. I am not happy with viper.maybe if it was only a dule blade sword and not swaping modes I would have been happy but yeah just diapointed

like ff9 is my fave game of all time but the way they are brining zidain into 14 as just a diferent nin skin is sad

  3. I try to keep expectations in check with new jobs, I dont feel they really gave us enough to go off of for how the job plays, and if it will be a fun class to play. And I still remember at the start of endwalker how excited everyone was for the summoner rework, and reaper. Not to say they are bad/boring jobs now, but it felt like anyone I talked to was planning on changing mains, and barely touched them after reaching level 90.

  4. I wasn't that shocked, given the TMNT shirt, I knew it had to do something with the turtles and first thing that came to mind was the weapons they used. Now I do admit that twin swords ((Leo)) didn't seam likely given ninjas two daggers, but what I will be shocked to find out is the second job that they say also has the TMNT shirt giving a hint as to what it might be…

  5. While Zidane didn't transform his weapons in FF IX proper, it is interesting that he had two types of weapons. He had dual dagger/blade options as well as the conjoined thief sword weapons separately even if he didn't join them.

  6. Not gonna lie, Scribe. I did watch that video but I'd completely forgotten about it. After all, it has been a few months.

That said, you must be quite ecstatic and proud that your favorite fantasy weapon finally made it in. Does that mean you're changing mains from Dark Knight to Viper when Dawntrail drops?

Also, it was nice to see a shout-out and reference to Shadiversity, since I'm an enjoyer of Shad (and company)'s content as well

  7. I want to put out one more old Square Enix game that had dual blade called a Swallow in CHRONO CROSS. Cross also came out within a year of FF9.

My reason for mentioning it is mainly that the main character, Serge, uses one. And Cross takes place in a tropical archipelago which is a bit on the nose for this expansion. Not to say that it will be the inspiration for Viper, but just to not doubt it’s possibility for influence.

  8. Very happy about seeing a class with twinblades, will probably not change to viper tho as i don't like to play dps really but i am very happy as i recently started playing ff9 which is working its way towards being my favourite ff game and as well as ff12 with characters like gabranth which makes me really happy about the fact that we get twinblades.

  9. Though i was hopeful for something like Corsair, the playstyle of Viper makes me thrilled as a God Eater 3 player.

To those curious, God Eater 3 brought in the new dual blades weapon to the series, which came with a combination of the two blades to turn it into a polearm, adding a fresh coat of paint to an otherwise ordinary weapon archetype

  10. I think.. the soul crystals come from the Allagans. When they gave us a little preview of the City of Gold, I immediately thought that the boss looked too advanced to have slipped under the radar civilization wise. If this is our El Dorado of Eorzea, why can't it also be our Atlantis? A chance to find or fight the equivalent of a fallout shelter of Allagans, pureblood, un-voided, and alive.

  11. I love swords, pirates, weapons that fuse, flurries of attacks.. This may be my my new favorite job, I am hoping they give us a wide type of blades, I'd love to use dual kopesh, or scimitars

  12. I am like talking out of my ass here but when i read the synopsis i have some weird feeling that the class will maybe be a mix of reaper bar and monk stances.

What i mean by it is that while you do your speedy attacks and so on you fill a bar to then turn it into the two handed twinblades and when you are in dual blade stance you can do something like "the way of the wolf or Snake or Whatever animal" because of the "soul crystal calling out ancient warriors". Would explain also how the class would be more "complex" as they described it. Again talking out of my ass but i thought that could be a fun gimmick

  13. I don't necessarily think the teachings of the Vipers have made it beyond the New World and I point to the fact that there are a plethora of people who use things like Gladiator/Paladin swords and Dark Knight swords that aren't actually gladiators, paladins, or dark knights. To say nothing of the hordes of people who use bows, spears, and axes without being specifically part of any of the jobs or classes that use them. So the idea that the weapon could have made it's way across without the teachings – or even have been developed independently – isn't outside the realm of possibility.

  14. I am definitely picking up Viper when early access comes out for Dawntrail. To me, Viper has big MH dual blades energy. While MH's dual blades don't combine together into a polearm, they do focus on a battle dance of sorts that shifts into "demon mode" when channeled that unleashed a flurry of hard hitting attacks. I wouldn't be surprised if Viper has poison dots that it must keep up, though from the revealed info we've gotten it may just be purely physical. I just hope that it has a ranged attack option and isn't like MNK who just sits in a corner trying not to cry when they can't be near a boss.

  15. Wary of speculating too much aside from assuming that Viper will be the "selfish" Scout, lacking the offensive party support that nin has. Perhaps they would get some personal sort of defensive party support, like mch.

  16. Yeah, yeah– take your victory lap, Doube-S. You deserve it. 😊

With that said, does this mean that Pictomancer is all but confirmed for the new Ranged Magic DPS job? That's pretty cool if that's case, but don't let being right twice go to your head! After all, getting insight from Hydalen is cheating! 😉
