common liffeh w
met a same mentor like a couple of time, he's playing as tank and he only pull like 1 group of mob each time.
hate it when that happen, like do they have trust issues with random healers or something
I think a decent portion of the fear of wiping comes from other communities, like the infamous WoW one for sure. People there would FREAK out over wipes pretty frequently.
And while I agree with the general sentiment of the message, I would also just recommend new players to not play a tank their first time through MSQ. Everyone is different of course, so this is just me… but I've been a tank main since 2005 vanilla WoW and many other MMOs until I discovered 14 a couple years ago. I did everything as a DPS my first time through so I could learn the game and I'm a much better tank for it today.
"Nobody is good at the game, they've just wiped more times than you"
Can you repeat that for the Ultimate raiders in the back that like to pretend a big glowstick makes them godsend?
(Most I've run into are fine, but there have been a handful I've gotten into arguments with. It is funny though when they inflate their egos only to die the most.)
Most fun part of tanking is optimizing mitigations. You can't truly know how far you can push your luck without letting your HP go below 1 at least once
This is the biggest reason I used to run with dedicated pocket healers in dungeons. I got tired of rando healers that were scared that I was pulling too much. And ultimately, why I stopped running PvE content for the most part out of friends needing a tank for whatever.
Not all of us have the time to be wiping for someone else to learn
One day that baby sprout WAR is going to find out they can pull the entire duty and keep themselves alive forever.
The whole "tanxiety" thing is silly. When I first got into tanking in FF14, the thing I worried about most was going the wrong way because I'm used to following people. Now even if I'm doing a new dungeon I w2w every time. It's better to learn from mistakes, than to shelter yourself and learn nothing. If you're new, people aren't going to dunk on you over one wipe.
I've gotten so many tips and help from just ASKING, most 14 players are patient and willing to help. The problem with MMOs is they do a terrible job of teaching you anything, most lessons come from the community. So never be afraid to ask for help, and remember to use your mitigation and pull to the wall.
And as a tank, always be sprinting, you can't get hit if you outrun the mobs! If you have to slow down a little and pull less then so be it. Just remember tanking is fun!
My suggestion would be "If you like end game in an MMO, cancel your sub now."
You have a point lol
When I was a sprout tank, I didnt even consider that I could pull more than one pack at a time until I read a shitpost the mentioned wall to wall pulling 😅 Eye-opening experience
I had a run where the tank asked he could just run in and pull as much as he can and we did die …a lot but we all had a fun time and the tank gave me pointers as a heal for runs like that. I never really get to do those so it was a fun time for sure.
Years ago when I started playing again as a lvl 32 gld in haukke manor, I got told to kill myself. The community has come so far.
Based!
What a community. So wholesome.
FF14 was my first MMO and I chose tank, at first it was fine I didn't mind being leader and taking my time but as I got to higher levels I started getting more anxious. One time I kept dying and wiped the team, I was getting called out in chat and everyone left me. I eventually beat the dungeon when new people joined but after that I hadn't run a dungeon for a few months. I tried to learn other classes but tanking is more fun for me
I mean.. I was taught to wipe when i was real young. I don’t mind wiping even to this day!
Okay? Let's fucking die then.
Also I'm a very squishy black mage and I don't like level sync below 50
I miss my Flare
