  1. I agree with the difficulty assumptions, I switched from WAR to RPR for MSQ this time around and I regretted it quite a few times when I was doing open world content. Also your right bringing a tank into new content feels like it would be tough but it’s actually easy because your basically immortal lol.

  2. If I’m being honest Tanking is the easier role to start with.
But good god we’ve come into an age of people NOT helping others so a tank will be botching their entire role and no one will say anything and the entire party suffers

  3. :3 been playing since XI and man I've come a long way as a tank and DPS. Even healer but from other games like DCUO celestial healer as it's a DPS Mix kinds like what I figured sage would be :/
I want healer that can heal and do tank lvls of DPS at the cost of needing to hit things for their "heal rotation".
Maybe do a video series on what each job feels like to play that way it's a bit easier that gearing up and lvling a job you might think is one way but isn't (ast, mch, sage etc)

  4. I think the concept of DPS being selfish, is due to the fact that the other two roles have a responsibility actually built into their roles. A tank generally has the leaderership role thrust upon them. So when picking a tank, players have to step up to lead. It's probably why some people get anxiety when considering tanking, because it means taking the leading role. Tanks set the pace, they need to know how to position the boss, and a general idea of how boss mechanics work or the party will wipe. Aggro isn't really a thing in FFXIV, but there's also that in other MMOs. Healers play backup support and keep things sailing smoothly. DPS is the only one that doesn't have any responsible role thrust upon them in built to its actual role other than to kill and not die.

In FFXIV though, I'd say that I've found DPS rotations more complex, and the skill ceiling is generally higher, and there seems to be more mechanics aimed at DPS that are tougher than their tank/healer roles, respectively.

  5. Heck NGL learning whm back in the days when nin was new, I literally fell asleep more than a few times and that kinda made me not wanna heal. Stick with whm to 80 tho :3 can say it's comfy now

  6. When it comes to the first and second points, I think for many new players they probably start with DPS not necessarily because they think it's best for beginners although that might be a thought they have due to not knowing how involved some DPS jobs can be. But it's probably more so because they might feel intimidated by the prospect of tanking and healing. If they screw up mechanics and die as DPS, it hurts the party less than if the tank or healer does.
So in a sense it could sort of be considered both selfish and unselfish at the same time since they want to try what they consider to have less responsibilities (regardless of how true that is) but it's also for the sake of trying not to inconvenience other players as much.
Regardless of what role someone picks first though, I always advocate for at least trying other roles for a decent amount of dungeons, doing so might either show them that they in fact love playing a different role or it can at least help them understand the limits of other roles so that they can adjust their performance (i.e. trying harder to avoid AoEs and not whining that they aren't getting heals) or offering friendly tips if they encounter less experienced players doing those roles.

  7. DPS IS the easiest role for beginners. I know that a lot of veterans disagree with that, but you have to look at it through a beginners point of view. Rotations can be a bit harder to pull off, I agree on that. But literally no one cares about rotations in ARR content or MSQ Dungeons. As a new player you want to get used to how the game works. And you don't have to worry about anything other than yourself as a DPS player.
I've just picked up a healer for the first time a few days ago (after playing for years). And you're gonna sweat bullets when you enter a dungeon for the first time, because you'll never know if the tank pulls the entire dungeon or just a single group of enemies at a time. And as a tank you're essentially the leader in each dungeon. You won't know how many enemies you can handle as a new player. Just take a look at Stone Vigil for example. You'll almost certainly wipe at least once.

TLDR: Yes, the rotation on tanks and heals (if you can even call it a rotation) are much easier than DPS rotations, but a rotation is NOT what defines a beginner friendly class/job. (I'm not saying that you MUST start as a DPS when you pick up the game for the first time, but it'll be much easier to get into the game as a DPS player). If we're talking about endgame content, then I'd probably agree with you. But we're talking about getting started, so I have to disagree with you.

  8. Yes this, learning new content as tank is so much easier in my experience. When making mistakes I can mitigate (and heal a bit as WAR). And mostly heals go to Tank. As DPS a mistake or 2 results in death. Especially as a BLM or melee learning the job (focusing on buttons, not the mechanics). As healer you can just… you know… heal yourself.

  9. I have play WoW for Years. I have do all roles in this Game. DPS, Tank and even Healer.
But in WoW that is realy easy to do.
In Final Fantasy – for me – is Healer and Tank harder then a DPS role.

    We have so many skills.

If i think on my Years in WoW. I Use 1,2,3,4,5 E,R,F, Alt+1,2,3 and thats all.
In Final Fantasy is that not enough for the many Skills in the Game.

At this moment, i play a Black Mage. I like Black Mage since i play Final Fantasy X oder IX. Lulu and Vivi are realy great characters.
    But i digress.

What i want to say: In Final Fantasy i have:
    1,2,3,4,5 – Q,E,R,T,F,X – CTLR+ 1,2,3,4,5 – CTLR + Q,E,R,T,F,X – Shift(Hope is in english the same) + 1,2,3,4,5- Shift+ Q,E,R,T,F,X.

Its so many an Skills that i have to change my MMO Keybinds. And with that – or because i beginn to learn how to play with that many keybinds. I cant play Healer or Tank.
Sometimes i dont see attacks from a Boss and die. If i play Tank or Heal i would stop the group :/.

Well, i hope it can be understand what i want to say. My English is REALY bad.

  10. One thing I've noticed with this game is that the classes that are lacking in raw DPS tend to have a variety of ways of buffing other's DPS or providing support in some other way
I played a LOT of dancer before swapping to reaper, and I always say "Dancers have the highest DPS of any support class" because their ability to buff the party gives them a major place in any party

The differences in the different Job's DPS output is negligible. You're better off picking whatever job you find the most fun and mastering it over trying to pick "the best job"

  11. I love healing but being new to game I went dps. I have having a hard time putting out good dps because I don't know the fights. So I would rather have bad dps and learn than have people dying over and over because I can't live thru the mechanics and heal the party. I warn everyone that I am still new-ish and learning fights. I barely got the game 6 months ago. I still don't know many of the fights.

  12. I choice dps, because i think, that tanks didnt feet me (didnt like to be in the Focus and i think, i would tank to slow because, i go more on the safe route). And i think, that im not good enough for healer in new content (but, i run in ew more often as a healer in raids i knowing^^).

And most important reasons: dd have more Jobs i like thematicly.
My favro are mages. So, i began as a Black mage. Because i had leveled to fast, i choiced the summoner to. But are using more the Scholar part.
After mages did i like the rouges. So, i begann to focusing on him, after i was for some time not able to play caster anymore, with lvl 75 and above (to many skills, i began to had countless miss clicks and was more focused on my skills, than the surroundings, until, i had a long break and re organized my skill bar).

And than the reaper. Where i had more interesst in, as, with the Sage.
