Stealing Treasure From a Haunted Mountain – Getting Every Achievement in FFXIV #38

This week in Final Fantasy XIV we’re finally checking out Mount Rokkon – the second variant / criterion dungeon from Endwalker. There are loads of achievements tied to these things, and even some mounts and glams, so it’s sure to be a fun time… probably.

  1. The idea of object gaining spirits is part of Japanese folklore. The Tsukumogami Emaki describes how an object would become occupied by a spirit after one hundred years, so people would throw out old objects before they became a hundred years old, which was called the "susu-harai".

  2. Rather interesting that he comments about the scenery in this dungeon and wanting to go down there. You actually do go down there, that is the building on the middle path.

  3. When I was fostering kittens over the past 3 months, every time a kitten jumped up onto my desk I'd say "hi". Because of how I'd say it, I would have to say "I'm Cider Spider"

  4. We noticed that there is a little trick with the exp to level any job you want without playing it. The job you enter the variant dungoen with will get any exp you get from the dungeon, even when changing to warrior or other good solo jobs. We enter the dungeon with the job we want the exp for, switch to the job we want to play and then take the 30% exp earrings on that job.

  5. Cider's points about the lack of reward or fun in fighting trash mobs is honestly the main reason I liked FFXIV over the other MMOs I've played because they have Trials allowing me to just skip straight into boss fights with mechanics

  6. The lore about very old objects acquiring souls is already introduced to the player in Stormblood. This is Susano's schtick: he's a valuable sword that's been around so long he's got himself a soul, and if you stuff enough aether into him he'll made a little body to hold it.

  7. This is more about Japanese spirituality and oni type of lore then FFXIV lore. That's why if you look at Japanese demons / oni allot of them are objects or cursed items turned into monsters. Don't think there is any in game real connection to any of this.

  8. I hope the next set of variant dungeons get betting implementation so they don't die faster than a fist out of water. Have yet to the criterion dungeons as no one is doing them; there's no reason to.

And then just…. "Buttah!" and "BUTTAH" and then quieter…. "buttah."
Dammit I crashed my horse. He's fine.
