Chat told me about Larryzaur’s history of FF14! It really taught me a lot of new information about the game and really helped explain a lot of things I wasn’t too aware of. Some of these things would maybe potentially be cool to see come back??

Ahh yes all the cross class skills lol. It was a bit annoying.
The thing about Haste is that it will kill MNK player. It shorten their already GCD a lot their fingers will break
Speak from experience of an old AST who can give Haste Card specifically to MNK just to mess them up
aww man, i miss larry, he had some funny videos, he took a break from playing games a few years ago when he 1.) became a dad, and 2.) became a video game programmer/designer. he has a game he made solo coming out soon called …..not only nine. about a cat who's human dies so the cat has to go save his soul.
imo, id the dev make a good enough gear, people would want to show off. but they should not force you to do it.
Monk used to be all positionals. They removed that recently after reworking the job.
The cross-class system was how it worked (works, don't know haven't played recently) in FFXI so the system was carried over, but FFXIV has moved away from old-school MMO tropes and into its own, more modern systems since then. You will hear vets complaining about it being "dumbed down" but tbh, its much more accessible now, and that is for the better of everyone!
Problem with Cleric Stance back then was it was on the GCD, also you had way less OGCDs back then so you had to rely on Hardcasts even more. In Reality you have to think at least 5 seconds in Advance cause you had to turn off you Cleric Stance and Then wait 2-3 Seconds for your healing cast. That made Healing much harder back then and also we didnt had some panic Buttons to insta Heal.
And about the Glamour System…..jeah nah sorry. If the Devs really make a good looking Set then people usually Glam it. the EW Pandemonium 5-8 Set looked awesome and when it was recent you saw so many people wesring that Set. I even wear it still with the Dyed Savage Version. But since your BIS is always a mix between Raid and Tomestone Gear you usually look like a Clown without a Glamour on it.
Btw remember from my WoW Time that Vanilla and BC also didnt had a LFG Tool. I think it was implemented in WotLK so back then you also had to be In that Area to enter the Dungeon or Raid. Remember where lot of Guilds waited before Black Temple and having fun together. Was a great Time.
Positional attacks were the best thing about melee especially Monk. Now that they made boss models absolutely massive they are infuriating. They need to make bosses smaller and bring back positionals or just remove them altogether. I prefer the former. As it is now it's just annoying.
I get the reasons they got rid of Cleric stance, but for me personally I loved cleric stance. It further rewards skill.
rather than turning it off, if the artists bring their A game, you wont want to glamour out of it.
When they first came out, there were only 4 limitbreaks. Healer, DPS, magical DPS, and Tank. "Physical Ranged DPS" wasn't its own thing yet as machinist didn't come out until Heavensward and Dancer was Stormblood.
I think part of the rationale behind removing old skills and reworking jobs is the amount of button bloat that happens as the game gets older. I don't have enough buttons to comfortably fit all my PLD spells right now, and that's with an MMO mouse.
13:31 The choice didn't matter because there wasn't really a choice. You used Selene or you got called bad at the game and then told to use Selene. It's one of those classic MMORPG situations about the "illusion of choice" where having multiple options available doesn't necessarily mean there's actually a choice to make between the two. By eliminating the differences between the fairies they just removed the illusion without actually changing anything about how people actually played while allowing the designers to better streamline how they wanted to develop the job's identity from then on.
Pretty much everything they talked about prior to being released sounded like absolute dog shit, I never understood why anyone even tried it.
