  1. MMOByte also loves FF14 as his main game and has said that. He won't ever give up on it but he plays alot of other stuff too. Vefore watching the MMOByte video Im assuming he is stating the reason this new game is not going to kill WoW/FF14.

  2. If Developers were so worried about making enough money to pay their employees they would charge money to play the game, Free-to-Play is the most expensive model for the customers because it robs the game of cool things and locks them behind a paywall

  3. Ff14 has set a new standard and expectation. If any new mmo wants to take the crown then they must meet those expectations and more. This is not an easy task to live up to when you consider your target audience. The rigs that most have and can they run your game and so on.

  4. This game looks like such a red flag in my eyes. wish it best and hope it proves me wrong, but based on similar feelings as Quazii in the vid, I very much doubt too much.

  5. Frankly, someone who titles their video as an "MMO that will make you want to quit FFXIV" clearly hasn't done their research into FFXIV or its community.

FFXIV players are more likely to try new games and may find alternate MMOs to play, but outright quit? That seems extremely unlikely (sure it's possible, I suppose). Considering the deep and abiding connection to the game, dev team, and support many FFXIV players have compared to most MMO genres, especially in this market, the game would not only need to be pretty phenomenal, but show a continued trend of good content, player/customer support, good dev communication with the player base, and so many other potential factors.

Click bait titles like this really annoy me. The game could be good, and I welcome competitors in the market for sure. But ideas like this are just silly and unfounded.

  6. The reason why no K MMO on the western market will ever beat the big players is not cause they look bad or are not fun, they just offer literally no sense of community. WoW and XIV BOTH (tho WoW had its troubles lately with it) have their focus so much on community and how players interact between each other while in K MMOs you just grind stuff you might see other people in dungeons or stuff but it will never be like in XIV etc. where players actually come together to make something that is bigger than the game and all its mechanics.

K MMOs seem to be for having fun alone, western MMOs (i count XIV also into that since the developement was influenced heavily by WoW) forge a sense of well discovering the world together. So yeah, you might find fun in K MMOs, i mean i loved BDO for its combat system it's really fast and fun. But usually you can't find a home in K MMOs, not at all. It's just lonely.

  7. you can't really kill FFXIV at this point. Because the game simply doesn't demand all of your time. It has a revolving door player base. You jump in during a new patch, get a month or 2 of genuine enjoyment, and then hop out and wait for next patch. Rinse and repeat.

  8. I know MMOBYTE's track record with games. I don't trust this game nor am I interested with him hyping it up. The dude said and showed a whole lot of nothing and supports p2w unless it affects him. That being said, I hope it's at least decent with NO P2W. I'm not opposed to other MMOs (I loved Elsword), but it took ffxiv years and good leadership to get where it is. This guy is just clickbaiting like he always does for views not news.

I'm at the point of my life where I've been burned so much, the only game I care to play is ffxiv and old games. I decide for myself if a game is good. Not youtubers, reviews, and, ESPECIALLY, sales numbers.

  9. There is just too much of a cultural gap for these types of games to become and remain successful in the west, at least for now. P2W, art style, combat style, grindy progression loops/unnecessary time sinks, odd anti social systems, and so on. Black Desert was the only outlier, but even that game killed itself with P2W in the long run. I think we need a complete shake up in the genre, much like battle royal did for shooters. We've been playing the same thing for the past 2 decades. The architype of mmo needs a change up.

  10. Have they learned nothing from recent history? The only thing that "kills" big names like WoW is the developer itself. FFXIV's only downfall will be if they ever betray the players. Full stop.

  11. I'd say that the only games that could actually kill WoW and FFXIV are themselves. WoW they still didn't learn from their mistakes and Dragonflight and future expansions still suffer for it. And FFXIV if the additional 10 year plan fails big time.

As for MMOByte's video, I agree that it didn't really tell the viewer anything of import regarding the game itself. and just fed us buzzwords. I don't even remember what the game was called.

Additionally, I'm not convinced that having weather affect combat is a good idea. If this game's class system for example locks your character to whatever class you chose upon creation, your character could become either useless or noticeably suboptimal under certain weather conditions. So what do you do then with them? Leave and come back later? Probably, which to me seems like an unnecessary road block to fighting whatever it was you traveled to. Sure it can be worked around; but why does that road block even have to exist?

  12. New MMO devs does not understand that FFXIV's playerbase is mostly consisted of causal people who actually developed a lifestyle inside the MMO, and that any new MMOs without that casual/lifestyle aspect will never be able to grab hold of the players currently playing FFXIV

  13. What I notice with Lost Ark or other korean MMOs it's they are all about style but no substance. Sure they look nice and the action is great but in the end the mechanics are meh at best and lots of grinding. I don't have time for that and tbh I'm not willing to spend hours doing the same shit over and over again for progress, it's boring.

  14. All I want is an MMO that rewards the player's time and effort. FFXIV is absolute trash, you can waste 30 mins running a dungeon or raid and walk away with literally nothing. ZERO LOOT. Because the game decides to give away all the loot to everyone else besides you in the frustrating and unfair RNG lottery loot system. In WoW, at least everyone has an equal 20% chance to win loot after every boss so you don't feel like you wanna dox and burn down the real life house of the player who stole your loot in the lottery loot system, but it still feels bad to waste time running content and not get anything. Still looking for an MMO that has guaranteed rewards for the time and effort you put in the game.

  15. This other game is dead before it even launches. As soon as I heard the words "NCSoft", I got flashbacks to how NCSoft killed City of Heroes, the #1 superhero MMO, that won a lawsuit against Marvel, indemnifying them against the consequences of people making copyrighted or copyright-alike charactes in their game, just as the Marvel Cinematic Universe was kicking off with The Avengers. Can you imagine how much money they would have made if they had kept City of Heroes running for the past ten years? And that's not even counting NCSoft's other malfeasance with forging Richard Gariott's signature to shut down Tabula Rasa. NCSoft is as crooked as they come, this game will never get off the ground, and I am actually kind of disappointed in MMOByte.

  16. The wow killer, ffxiv killer statement is just to get clicks and it works. MMORPG's tend to kill themselves over time for not innovating and sticking to the same formula over and over.

  17. remember in FFXI, when people thought your "cardinal direction facing" would effect your crafting and combat performance? not only weather, but Fenrir summon damage is affected by moon phase in the game? hahahaha

  18. Cynical because getting older? The opposite is true. There is nobody as cynical as teenagers. Are teenagers old people? The older you get, the wiser you get, unless you grow incorrectly.
