Jesse's breakdown of this was so cogent, it really helped me understand part of why I liked WoW at one part of my life and XIV at another.
…also props to him for mentioning Vanilla mountain-climbing into unfinished zones, I will never forget glitching my way up the back of the Western Plaguelands after swimming over from Tirisfal. Two mortal hours well-spent.
Jesse doess a great job but he doesn't highlight the hardcore raiding in this video at all. The hardcore raiding in XIV is INCREDIBLE! some of the best content i've experienced in any game. Savage and Ultimate fights are insanely cool and the rewards from them are excellent. If your interested in a breakdown of WoW raids vs XIV i suggest checking out Lynx kameli's video on it "Why i quit mythic raiding in WoW to raid in XIV"
they wont change the GCD duration. the rotation doesn't only include GCD abilities. you also get off-GCD's that you can weave 2-3 between the 2.5 second GCD. so you essentially have a less than 1 second of time between skills.
Instant changed class is on the shadowbringer trailer
Before playing FFXIV, I was already a veteran player of FFXI online since 2002. Over in FFXI online, community was very similar but was much more strict because Japanese and North American server were on the same one. Before North American players came, Japanese people had an etiquette of asking the seller on Auction before putting something similar. This goes double for undercutting. Asking permission or arranging when to sell your goods was a thing. When forming a raid or party, we abide the play time. We negotiated how long we would play before going. And breaking that play time promise was a big taboo either leaving early or asking to stay longer. A thing that could leave you be a social pariah.
