  1. So I had gear reaching the perception threshold but it barely missed the 2nd gathering threshold.
I decided to go for melds that reach 3401+ perception and 3443+ gathering (+2 yield instead of ashe's +3) since it would be way more expensive to meld my pieces all over again to go for +3 yield gathering values.
After that I decided to do some math, assuming that there is an even amount of perception boon nodes and double nodes (boon+yield). I came to the conclusion that the boon/+2 yield melds are statiscally basically the same as no boon/+3 yield melds (like ashe uses here) : about 214 materials vs 216 materials on average doing a full legendary node rotation (bountiful harvest not included).
Long story short: if you have melds similar to ashe's go for +3 yield and no boon, if you have similar gear to mine (3401+ percetion and low gathering or almost reaching threshold+2) go for the boon proc and only +2 yield instead of +3. It is NOT worth it at all to start melding all over again on any piece! Sorry not a native speaker btw.

  2. I just spent half the millions I made in EW just melding my gathering set to get to 3436 gathering and 3100 perception with 902 gp and I see how far off I am now. I actually went for the gathering because I mistook the perception number for gathering listed on the legendary nodes and still I'm sticking with it because it let's me just hit collectable nodes when I get the max per hit.

I'm also finally starting to get 20% spiritbond each legendary node at least, and I see I need to work on my rotation to get more than 3 items per hit. I'll make sure to try out the rotation you showed here to see how I can improve.

Thank you for the video! And here's to hoping I can make back all I spent on materia melding and then some shortly.

  3. Finally started using the Better Crowned Pie as well as the Superior Spirit Bond Potion and it is stupid crazy how quick everything spirit bonds. Honestly love it. Thanks a ton Ashe. Looking forward to completing my meld in the next few days.

  4. has anyone had issues with the boots? my feet tell me that adding a GP +8 materia after the gp + 10 will always fail 100% of the time. So far I have the HQ level 90 boots with 2 +25 perception and 1 GP + 10 on them much like the video

  5. Been playing for 2 years. Still consider myself new lol. I appreciate your videos. Very thorough and easy to follow. Love that you always give the “why” in each video. I always learn something on your channel. I look forward to the videos to come.

  6. nice guide as always 🙂

What I did is I made a Spiritbonding gather set with a very budget build, then crafted an entirely new set to work on overmelding while I spiritbond.

Costs a bit more mats, but to me that's way better than accidently running out of materia, then not having optimal stats to get more spiritbonding. Figure that saves a lot of headache at start of new expansions.

  7. Hi! I am a sprout first time melding my gear and wanted to ask about the reason your gear has such weird materias melded. Like some of them are 10 some 9, 8 or i saw even 7. Why not use best possible 10 materias everywhere? Is it because of the cost (i'm pretty sure it's not coz i see you are rich :3)
Thank you for your videos i'm going to watch some other as well, especially materia-farming one!

  8. Ok i've subscribed to you now. I'm totally underprepared, I didn't know the master crafter recipes were dropping with the next patch. If I was subscribed I would've known. I'm now going to spend all of sunday and monday, all 48hrs trying to play catch up. I didn't even know spiritbonded crafter/gatherer gear yielded materia T.T

I've got copious amounts of materials, except for sand and I havent overmelded my gear yet. I only just managed to make enough money to try and buy a large house when ishgard drops, I don't want to waste it all on materia but if I have to i'll just buy what I need and try to make it all back in the first week of the new recipes.

Thanks for the videos ashe they are a great resource for us start of expansion virgins xD

edit on a side note. Do you think the excitatron will yield rare materials for crafting like from the treasure dungeon in shadowbringers? Like Calf leather and frontier cloth? Or will that come in a later patch? I got 12 maps ready to go.

  9. Hi!

    Thank you for your guide!

But question my current stats (with food) are:

    gathering 3592, perception 3358

but i dont get the gathering location effect, could you please elaborate on this? (my base yield rn is just 1 which is super weird)

  10. Thank you everyone who helped work out the math for this. Thanks to your earlier farming guide, it really was very easy to get all the materia needed for these melds. Thank you!

  11. I might be missing something and had a quick question. Isn't using Solid Reason 3x better on average than this rotation? Assuming same melds and everything active it should average out to 44.4 per node (6 gathers x 6 Mats + (6 x 2 x .7) ((boon+tidings gains)) for your suggested rotation and 45.15 for 3 uses of the additional gather action. (9+(1.5) x 4 + ( (9+1.5) x .3 ) ((9 gather attempt minimum, average of 1.5 wise procs) I could be missing something I'm new to theory crafting this stuff. Thanks!
