  1. I think XiV is one of the easiest games to learn tanking in. Xiv Dungeons are very simple and there isn’t a dungeon endgame system like mythic+ Don’t really have to worry about knowing what each mob in an instance does or route shortcuts in dungeons (literally why I never tanked in wow lol. I never remembered best routes to go 😭)

Just gotta aoe and mit a lil bit.

I think the only tricky part is learning when to mit and when to swap on fights that need that but it comes with time.

Also most folks are chill if you just say “hey I’m new/a bit rusty to tanking!” And there ya go.

And always…if you mess up, don’t just give up. It’s tough if you got anxiety I get it…just gotta work on that mental. Or do it with friends before you do it on your own.

  2. As someone who regularly does Mythics in WoW and has recently transitioned into FF I gotta say people here are way nicer when you screw up. Make mistakes but try to learn from them and maybe watch a vid before any “raid” level content out of courtesy to your party. It’ll all work out.

  3. “The pressure from the expectation to know where to go or not knowing mechanics”
Homie every dungeons is a straight corridor with 2 sets of 2 packs and a boss🤣 👌

  4. The start of an expansion is the best time to revisit tanking, imo. No one knows the dungeons or raids yet so there is no established expectation of skill level or wall to wall pulling. You can take your time because everyone is taking in all the new content, not worrying about the speed of the run.

  5. Both tank and healer are classes I refuse to play because of how mean people can be 😅 My friend was playing a tank and she told me about how some guy threw a fit over missing ONE mob only once and she's not even a bad player either, she definitely knows what she's doing, plus she even warned that she's still new to tanking, this guy was literally just nitpicking at her for no reason and even the rest of the group was cheering her on and telling her not to let that guy get to her. I personally think healers seem to get the most flak and hate and seem to always be the scapegoat when things go wrong even if it wasn't the healers fault entirely. I'm so happy you can do dungeons with NPCs now because I refuse to try and level a tank or healer with other random people out of fear of getting yelled at. I'm not even a sprout and I still have no idea how to play a healer or tank fully. lmao Sometimes people are still learning and people shouldn't be so quick to judge or hey, instead of yelling at them for doing something wrong, how about you give some helpful advice instead? There's a difference between being a dick and being a helpful kind person who will give helpful advice (as long as you're wording it in a nice way ofc). It's really sad that toxicity in these kinds of games is getting worse and worse and it's making the game no longer fun for people. Or perhaps anxiety levels are getting higher and higher. Either way the toxicity is not helping whatsoever. If how someone plays is bothering you THAT much and you can't be bothered to try and help them out by giving advice, then just leave the group and find a different one. ffs

  6. Funny enough FFXIV was my first mmo back in 2013. I mained dragoon until I was like man I really love the Paladin look and man Warrior seems really cool. Cool factor pushed me to break into tanking. Felt like a champ being able to break the ice on the role. Now that we have DK and GNB I love it even more. It can be stressful at times but yeah it’s just a game and you’re gonna mess up. Have to learn along the way. Unless you’re a blessed player who is perfect at everything the first time.

  7. I started my ff journey as a warrior. Knowing full well that i would be tanking from day 1. I learned every encounter I've done to this point tanking entirely blind. I never looked up rotations, i never looked up pull routes and layouts. I just learned. It was so much fun and everybody was always nice for the most part. I never really made major mistakes, but i did start pulling individual packs just because i didn't understand. By the end of ARR, i was pulling 3 to 4 packs working entirely around my healer and their mana. Obviously my experience went be everyone's, but i feel like most of my ability came from just jumping into it head on and trying to get better at it. I recently got my partner into the game and after trying a couple classes at the beginning she decided on gladiator, so now she is jumping into tanking from day one. I really think it's the way to go about it. Now healing stresses me out, so i definitely understand that, but I'm considering starting to heal for my group of friends i roped in to playing since none of them want to, so ill be jumping head first into healing as well and just learn along the way

  8. As someone with tank anxiety, I think for me, it's partially a product of playing on crystal dc. It's not about not knowing the dungeons. I probably know every pull of every dungeon by this point lol
My issue comes in from the healer side of things. Obv this is a bit generalizing but a lot of players in crystal aren't good. Especially healers. And if I get a low level dungeon where I don't have a lot of mits or self sustain, and I get a bad healer, I get SO nervous that I'm going to die. And I don't even care about me dying, I care that the dungeon is then going to take longer, or that people are gonna have a bad time, etc (I'm a super perfectionist and people pleaser tho so it's probably worse for me than others lol). Especially as someone who plays healer a lot, I'm very familiar with how much certain dungeons/pulls hurt, and I know how much mit a tank needs plus how much help from the healer they need. And when I'm tanking and mitting correctly and I don't see the heals… yeah I start to sweat lol
As for harder content, the main thing I get anxious about for some reason are tank swaps (I've never had to do one and I know they're simple, but I'm always like… Do I just provoke? If I'm the MT do I turn off stance? Or shirk? And I know it's usually not complicated, but I've seen times when aggro gets messed up and it spirals into a wipe, and I'm too much of a perfectionist to let that happen lol)
Overall I'm slowly getting over it, but as it's the least familiar role to me, I still get nervous. Probably will never play it in Savage+ tho…

  9. Here's to those have tank anxiety:

Most people have no idea what they're doing. They think they do, they don't. Especially a pure DPS player.

    So, fk it and ball.

  10. I still have this but it’s completely an irrational fear at this point. Every time I’ve hoped into party finder. I’ve either made friends or got complimented on how well I did.

But even now I hop in with a little anxiety please don’t let me be the problem.

  11. Tanking doesn't bother me a bit. Healing is where I have to just do more of it, and not agonize over making a mistake that kills a group member or the whole group. Toxic people are really not a problem in XIV. Are there a few? Sure, but having played WoW for years before playing XIV, I can handle the people in XIV just fine.

  12. The only time I feel anxiety would be non-roulette scenarios, like playing Extreme and Savages in PF. And it’s not even tank anxiety but a player anxiety of not wanting to let people down regardless of role.

Roulettes? They should have chosen to queue in as tank if they didn’t want to deal with bad tanks.
