  1. FFXIV used to be clunky and unoptimized in “1.0”, so the developers decided to cause a canon “Great Calamity” to rerelease the game in A Realm Reborn “2.0”. That’s what this trailer is for basically haha.

  2. This trailer was what players who saw the end of 1.0 got. Basically, it showed all the major characters failing to stop the Empire or Dalamud (The Moon) from breaking the world. It provided a teaser for those players so that when the game came back they would be caught up on the new story plot. It also set up the new status quo with some of the old characters defeated or dead and new problems to deal with.

  3. That's my boy bahamuth✨ at lvl 30 you will be able to change to Summoner and learn more about bahamuth. Also the raid " bahamuts Coerl"( not sure about the correct name) explains what happened to the twins grandfather. 🤓

  4. 8:42 as the old man faced the oncoming flames is where the original version of this video ended, when the 1.0 version was shut down. Players would have to wait almost a year for the game to come back, and much longer for the high end raiders of A Realm Reborn to resolve that storyline.

  5. I would recommend to watch either "Fall and Rise of Final Fantasy XIV" or the Noclip FF14 documentary. Or both.
It will give you enough insight of what's going on in there.

  6. Now that you seen this one watch a realm reborn a flame of thruth its the same trailer with more context to what happen. Love this game so much been playing for 5 plus years

  7. Don't know if you'll see this, but the character that got teleported represents the 1.0 players, and ONLY the 1.0 players. The 2.0 players are from "the new world", which is a continent across the sea from Limsa Lominsa. The 1.0 players are from there as well, but as far as the cinematic is concerned, it's about the 1.0 players.

  8. I personally wouldn‘t advice to watch the Flames of Truth Trailer, because it is essentially the same trailer as this one, but with a sort of spoilery twist in it with a big lore dump
You can get the scene ingame tho, as some in the comments pointed out. It is inside of a raid story at the end of A Realm Reborn
But if it isn‘t gonna bother you, go ahead and have fun with it, it‘s good stuff c:
And keep up the good content!

  9. A little fact — everytime you hear music in-game that has vocals, the lyrics ARE actually CANON to the story. It might not make sense immediately, but you just need to figure out from whose point of view it is. For this song ("Answers") — it is sung from the point of view of Hydaelyn, the Mother Crystal — hence the beginning of the song " To all of my children . . ."

  10. o/ Just found your video's tonight (3/22/2021). Commented on your "FINAL FANTASY XIV First Impressions from a Guild Wars 2 Player" Video but figured i'd post again here as you'll likely see it first 😀

The Cinematic for the 'opening' of FFXIV A Realm Reborn (the video you watch/react to on this one) is actually 2 parts. Everything up until the 'bright flash' is literally the 'last' Thing those of us who played FFXIV 1.0 saw before we were booted from the Servers with a message from the dev's stating "We will be back". That movie still gives us 1.0 players who were deep in the story goosebumps and 'feels' every time we see it, and "Answers" (the song being played) does the same. Even outside of the game that song will give me goosebumps hearing it.

Everything 'after' the bright flash is what was added as the 'opening' for A Realm Reborn. And as others mentioned, that first 1/2 of the cinematic depicts the "Great Calamity" that NPC's in FFXIV will constantly reference. The Dev's literally 'destroyed the world in a calamity' when they shut it down… then picked right back up with the story when they came back with FFXIV ARR.

  11. Best "order" to watch the Trailers:

    ARR (you just did)

Heavensward – Once you get 'into' the City of Ishgard via the Main Story.

Stormblood – Once you meet a NPC named Lyse

ShadowBringers – Once you get to a quest where your sent to find a 'trinket' at a Crystal Tower.

  12. This is even better when you realize: imagine you were playing an MMO, failed to stop the bad guys in the main story quest and in the final minutes before the servers shut down, you and everyone standing beside you gets shown this, watching the world you tried to save be destroyed.

  13. oh man wait until you finish stormblood and watch shadowbringers' trailer
one of the best trailers SE has ever made and they've made the best trailers next to kojima

  14. you should look at the song playing during the video " Answers" its a dialogue between Hydalyn and the people of Eorzea and is probably one of the best songs in the game imo granted there is a lot of good music to choose from and the latest expansion is a really close contender with its main theme

  15. no mater what anyone says dont react to any trailers before you get to that point in the story in game as many of the trailers to be understood you need to know the story and most of them like heavensward trailer has huge spoilers for ending of a realm reborn.

  16. The first version of FFXIV was so freaking bad and universally panned that the developers decided to scrap the game and remake it. But rather than throwing it in the dumpster, they rote the re-build into the story of the game, and the destruction of the world was the Hero's actual failure to save the world from the Big Bad. For weeks or even months leading to the end, players knew the end was coming. At the moment the servers came down, all players still in-game were shown this video, of their own failure, minus the ARR section at the end.

The old White Mage who scrificed himself was Louisoix, mentioned several times in ARR. He is the grandfather of Alphinaux and Alisae if i remember correctly.

  17. IIRC, the people you see at the beginning are actual players before the servers shut down as well. So those people fighting? Yeah, those are players. How accurate this is I am unsure as 1.0 info is relatively hard to track down these days.

  18. Just a heads up for when you're watching these trailers, the rugged good looking Warrior class guy (barbarian looking plate armor, big two handed axe, etc, gets his helmet shot off in this one) is a stand-in for your player character. In FF14 you take center stage in the main story, not some heroic NPC badass, so they needed a "default Warrior of Light" for the videos, and made that guy. So it's canon that you, as the player, were in that great fight, survived the calamity, and were teleported into the future to save your life, and that's where FF14:ARR starts off. Though no one knows it's you at the start, as due to magic mumbo-jumbo they've all forgotten who the party of hero's were, but they know they existed, etc.

  19. It isnt bad in the beginning but after the initial game first time seeing credits I recommend keeping a box of tissues for all the moments happy and sad. always have tissues on new content cause you never know when tears of joy or sadness will appear.

  20. Ok, it clearly states "new player" but holy crap dude, you didn't get a damn thing right in your reaction, are you sure you even play the game ? You thought meteors were creatures, you had no clue about Dalamud, you confused the warrior class with a gladiator (guy with the axe), didn't recognize Cid, you kinda knew about Limsa but then called the Admiral of Limsa a guy, Really ? I knew more about FF14 before I even downloaded it to my computer (mostly because I didn't want to sink my time into a bad game) Buy hey, i'll cut you a break, if you like Realm Reborn, wait till you get to Shadowbringers.

  21. "They seal him away, don't they?"

Weellll………. Let's just say both yes and no. There's a quest chain that gets into this a lot more, explaining what the deal with Bahamut is, getting into why the seal came undone, the aftermath of the battle, all that stuff. Unfortunately it's really old content and the actuall dungeons aren't great, so it can take a while to get people together for it. But on the plus side, you're a streamer with an audience, so all you have to do is ask the chat for help and I can guarantee you'd have a party to run through that quest with in no time. And if you can get that going then I'd absolutely suggest doing those quests because of how great the reveals and boss fights are.

Honestly, all the Raid Questlines are just super good overall, but that one in particular is one of the most awkward to get through because, simply put, nobody really wants to do those levels after beating them the first time. Meanwhile, people are just constantly running the Alexander quests because they're just that great, the Alexander que times are stupidly fast!

  22. If you want to know what happened to that big dragon, I recommend playing the "Binding Coil" raid series once you get to the end of ARR. It is a notoriously difficult series, so I recommend getting some level 80 friends to go with you clear them unsynced.

Not kidding, it’s that hard if you go in with a pub group – we once expired the entire 2 hour timer just trying to beat the Turn 5 boss synced (wiped over a dozen times), then beat it in 5 minutes unsynced.
