  1. Xeno being a manchild, say it ain't so.

By the way the DMCA thing is 100% for the mods, they specifically made a version of the song that could be streamed to avoid any problems with the music.

  2. Think he needs to find where they defined 3rd party tools. Because they likely define a 3rd party on the TOS. Then when they mention 3rd party they would be referencing that.

  3. Don't advertise it, don't talk about it, and don't tell anyone". Streams with mods visible. Suspended. Surprised Pikachu Face.

They broke the rules and talked about fight club.

  4. Intentionally misunderstanding to make his argument valid. Pathetic. I presume he thinks windows is a 3rd party service as well. What about paint? Ill draw the tactics, print screen them and send them to my friends with outlook. Boom! Third party service.

  5. @Asmongold yes you are correct about something like discord not being a 3rd party, a 3rd party app is any code that is inputted into the game itself, or used to extract or modify game files in any way and with FFXIV to use an addon it needs to alter the core game files for them to be used which is not allowed and could even be looked as altering proprietary file systems and encryptions to make these addons run. There is no built in way for FFXIV to load external databases or tools that are not part of their code. But just because he was playing it for years a specific way with an addon that does not change that it was still banned, just because you don't agree with them, it is still illegal, its like a restaurant you pay them for food but you cant then decide your 1 patty bugger is not right and you need to have 4 patties and a large milkshake that was not part of the deal, but you think it should be but does not change that its not just because you think it should be that way, it just is not the users right to demand this because they think it should be their way not the restaurants way. UI improvements are important but there is something to be remembered this is a game that is made in japan first, and for that market they do things a little differently and they have tried to adapt but still it is there call on what should be changed and not.
Then if they get there way with one addon that might be allowed they would all have to be allowed and the fight goes on and on.
Programs such as Discord are as you said and you were voicing exactly what I was thinking as it is not a 3rd party app as it is self contained, it can't actually interact with FFXIV or WoW or any other game, the only think it can do is read the calls for what games is being run that's all, there us no other functions and just because someone else can yell out to do something in game does not make it 3rd party app no more then talking on a phone. So i agree with you hole heartedly 🙂

  6. Early on Xeno acknowledges that part of the deal with using the tools was to not be toxic and, more to the point, not show them off publicly. Later he conveniently drops that point because then his entire argument to villify SE falls apart. Pretty disingenuous.

  7. So my Bot for FFXIV (i don't even own the Game, but who cares) is an indepedent Tool. It only send Keystrokes to the Operating System and it asks the Operating System to read and write in certain memory spaces… It on;y interact with Windows, it's not interacting with FFXIV directly, no Addons involved. So I can tell now, my Bot is Asmongold approved, absolutly no cheating buddies. Ah btw, in compare to my Bot, Discord injects an Overlay to every Game (if enabled) AND it can record the Games Video Output, even if it's a background process… So technically, Discord interacts more with the Game itself, than my Bot would.. but both are no cheating tools right? Sorry Asmongold, I really like you, but you are completly wrong here

  8. The thing asmon has missed is that yoshi p admitted that due to the way they define third party addons, SE DOES consider discord to be against ToS.

  9. in the legal language 3rd party tool: any tool/program/executable not made by the program creator. a 3rd party is anything not made by or directly intended by the creatore. a 3rd party ink cartridge to your printer is any that are not made by the manufacturer of the printer.
unless they formally state a list anything that is not made by them is a 3rd party tool to them, and therefore could get you banned.
I understand that you "feel" that there is an interpretation of this being "oh this is ok because it doesn't interact with the game" well Discord does interact with the game (discord listens to when the game is running to update your status), your web browser interacts with the game in similar ways.
So under the current language a player could be banned for using discord (would Square do it "probably not" but the agreement, and terms say they would be within their contractual rights to do so)

  10. If you take "Third party tool" at face value, technically – Discord is a "tool" (ie VoIP software) that is just about necessary in order to properly communicate in real-time with others in a raid setting in-game.

A lot of zoomers don't know this, but during the 2000's when there was mainly EverQuest, Runescape, SWG, etc – nobody used VoIP. It was only until Vanilla WoW that people were using VoIP software like Ventrilo or Teamspeak. Imagine raiding in WoW without VoIP – like zero. It'd be a sh*t show. Today, Discord and the like are absolutely necessary for things like Dragonsong Reprise, or any Ultimate content in XIV.

I'd bet that if all VoIP software were banned from use in MMORPGs, nobody would clear content at the rates they're at right now. It 100% contributes to success in any given situation, just because it bridges a very large gap in communication, and obviously it's easier to speak than type.

tl;dr – VoIP is, by technicality – a "tool," and is 100% needed in competitive, method-driven content.

  11. Damn it seems like Asmon explains everything perfectly that other guy is confused about.. i feel like this is exactly what the FFXIV Devs mean they dont want people having an advantage with add-ons that makes the game easier.. I think there is a huge difference between ACT and Discord i also dont consider Discord a third party add-on..

  12. I doesn't matter if someone is toxic, you just can't use third-party addon. By don't be toxic and we will not ban you SE mean if you are not toxic people probably will not report you so we will not ban you, but if people report you for using addons i doesn't matter why they will take action and you will be punished. Last thing when you are a streamer you don't need to talk about addons to promote them, you doing that by showing them on screen. P.S even ui/hud addons is making game unfair because console player can't use them.

  13. One of my favorite FFTactics Full OST channel got DMCA, and imeadiatly destroyed his Square Enix stuff and told NEVER MORE, out of nowhere they DMCA him for publishing their games SONGS …. like ADVERTISE and SEnix not even paying.
Just not buying SEnix games for that reason from now on.

  14. Idk. We done all ultimates without any addon except the latest one. Not on first week or month but we done it. This guy speak about PING or numbers of cooldown but you dont need it at all to complete content. But you need it to complete it faster then majority of players and thats why this guy use addons, everything else is bullshit.

  15. I saw videos where people used addons which is showing IN game additional information like attaking area, which doesn't exist without it. I personaly saw how addons makes lines where need to run.

Yea I agree that some mods is "quality of live" stuff like attitional buff timers or text clouds, bot NOT ALL OF THEM IS! Tonns of them – is clearly cheating.

  16. 3rd party doesn't have to interact with both parties, just 1 party.
A wife cheating on her husband with a third party doesn't require the third party to have any interaction with the husband.

  17. 7:46 You can become a third party even if you interact with only one side. Imagine you have two people arguing, then they are going in a different direction and you say something important to only one of those two -> and now you are a third party in the whole thing.

  18. it's so easy to bypass things like ACT showing up on your screen as a streamer. I didn't watch the video to it's fullest yet, so idk if he mentions it, but i would not be suprised whatsoever if he has ACT running behind the pic where the chat overlay is

  19. From a technical perspective Xenos is not wrong.
And I think this is just a poorly written press release.

Third Party: a person or group besides the two primarily involved in a situation, especially a dispute.

Anything that is not made by SE is by definition a third party tool.
That's why companies usually ban third party tools that directly interact with their product.
However SE's wording is extremely vague and does not include any such limitation.

And according to the post "we decided to simply prohibit the use of all third-party tools and software."
They banned all third-party tools and software, not just the ones on the list. That list is "examples of the rule violations we prioritize for investigation"
Not examples of third party tools that are banned.

For whatever reason they just not add that under "Defining Third Party Tools" in their press release.
Even though in their TOS they stated:
Accordingly, the following activities are prohibited:

    – Modifying, analyzing, integrating, and/or reverse-engineering game software or data.
    – Creating, distributing, using, or promoting utilities that interact with the game.

ACT? It analyzes FFXIV network traffic and logs, directly interacts with FFXIV. Not allowed.
Discord? Doesn't interact, analyze, or become part of any of FFXIV. Allowed
UI mods? Booba mods? Those all modifies in game texture. Not allowed.

  20. lol this guy has the worst takes, voice chat has been a part of every singe multiplayer experience since ventrilo. No, no it is not a 3rd party tool, they definitely should not ban discord. they def did not mean things like discord or boss guides. All the add-ons in wow make the game worse, raid logging is stupid and makes most people not do any mechanics right and just try pump the dps meter. Really adds absolutely nothing to the game experience except for a high scores list that no one gives a shit about. If one person has add on that makes playing more easy, then every single person will have that add on. then you end up with a wow ui, which is pretty much playing the game for you, all you have to do is hit the ticks your ui is telling you to hit. YOU DO NOT NEED ACT, if you dont know if your hitting your rotation right, your bad at game. THE DPS CHECK IS IF THE FUCKING BOSS DIES. In any other game except a mmo, "ADD ONs" are called cheats. If you cant play a game without 10 third party overlays, you suck at game. Dont even get me started on macros, what a stupid, stupid stupid thing to have in a game. just type all the buttons you want to press and we can make it one button. Why is this good for gameplay or necessary?

  21. Just don't stream with the shit enabled. It's like someone getting arrested for smoking cocaine on stream. You know it can get you arrested, but you displayed to the world that you were doing it anyway, and now you're over here looking like fuckin pikachu when it gets you in trouble. They have specifically targeted ACT as being a tool that is prohibited. A dps meter will never be implemented into this game. The dev team said it several times, including Yoshi himself. They don't want another Deadly Boss mods in XIV (that's basically what it already is with all the addons you can put on it. You don't even have to know when your abilities cooldown). So the fact that this guy got banned for using a third party tool a fucking day after this announcement comes as no surprise, especially given how fucking toxic the world race community is. Like come on, dude, the announcement just went up the day before and you decided to do it anyway knowing how many eyes would be on you.

  22. It’s sad too see that if Xenos’ argument was anyone in chat asmon would be popping off on how dishonest they are being. Xenos’ arguments (from the couple I’ve seen) just come off as an emotional temper tantrum and comes off as really intellectually dishonest.

  23. Sorry Asmond, @ 7:50, you're wrong and that's a bad take. Simple as that.

They can literally put in the rules these add-ons and state they will be allowed up until a certain date, which at that point a patch note will be sent to the community and anyone using any off the addons after that date will recieve bans/suspensions. just make a list of the most useful addons that are the most popular. (assuming they dont work like cheats, they just circumvent the shortcomings of the dev team) and say there you go community! you can now use these ones, anything else that gets reported will result in suspensions or bans.

sounds pretty f**king easy to me.

  24. To everyone in the comments talking about how "Saying discord is a 3rd party tool is a bad faith argument". No it fucking isn't. You just say this to justify you wanting to use it. It absolutely falls under the umbrella of "3rd party tool that helps players clear content easier". Just because VoiP has become so commonplace among gamers doesn't change this FACT. You say it doesn't fit under the umbrella because you want to continue using it, while simulataneously saying shit like ACT (which IF NOBODY SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT IT is only effecting the people who have it installed) shouldn't be allowed because YOU don't want to use it, and YOU feel its not fair, when the same could be said for Discord. Imagine someone who doesn't use Discord is trying to clear content. They are going to have a harder time than someone of equal skill level who IS using discord because they lack the benefit of being able to verbally communicate.
