My FFXIV Website — I'm Scared

I have a lot of fears over launching my FFXIV website. I’m not going to lie, it’s not at the state I want it to be in. But I am feeling like I need to release it now or I never will. It’s an ongoing project and I am NOT going to just stop development and drop it– it’s my baby.

I’m just worried the community will chastise me and dump on me. I’m scared.

  1. I'm trying to force myself to not just delete it all and give up. 🍕🍕🍕

  2. I really respect your views on both this game, and the way we approach it. While I personally haven't used your videos in the past, I refence them very frequently to the new and returning player for various bits of context and sometimes just general vibes surrounding FFXIV. I'm not sure what your tools will entail on your website, but I can say for sure they will be informed and well researched. We have many communities and community members who put together, reddit posts, tools, websites, discords etc but not every one of those will be able to be used by everyone. Yours will have its own mark in its own way I'm sure, your content thus far has been different and I, personally, find it both enjoyable and informative. As a veteran player (1.0) whos watched content come and go on various sites, channels, etc I want to see more of you come into the limelight, not as a demand, but naturally as people recommend and gravitate to things you do.
Everyone these days HAS to find an issue with something. No matter how big or how small. What's important is that you stick to the convictions or vision you wanted in the end, AND what makes you happy or satisfied. Remember collecting all those relics? That's the kind of tenacity you have, even after it all. You can do this and continue to evolve, change, and broaden the way you view this game, the community, and the world. I hope to see more of you, and your website, all of which when you decide when you want to publish content 🙂

  3. At the start you say the video is going to be about your website but I watched the video a few times and im not even sure what your website is going to be or what exactly it is, sorry maybe I'm just missing a few parts maybe a recap or link to another video explaining the website or is that the video you mentioned(if so its not made clear to go watch that first you just ask us if we seen it)?

Sorry not trying to come off as rude or hate comment just a little confused, But I hope you and your website the best!

  4. Hey, this sounds super cool! You don't really seem to be asking for help, but if you would want some I'd absolutely love to. Please don't delete your work; even if they're not coded well or incomplete or whatever I'm sure somebody would find value in it somehow.

  5. Hi Cole. As a person who has invested hundreds of hours to develop a game-focused website community tool, I implore you to keep going. It doesn't have to be complete at release. One or two features is excellent for a release. You can add more features as you go, and even those can be released in beta-form and enhanced later.

People are going to ask for features, and some will be critical, and that just means that people are using it. You don't have to address the requests/critiques immediately – put them in your backlog and prioritize them alongside new features. Then you can feel confident that the requests have been heard and there's a plan to address them, so you don't have to stress over them.

I just got into ffxiv about a month ago, and I'm really enjoying it. I've enjoyed your videos and appreciate your content. I'm excited to see the different features you have planned for your website!

  6. Keep going! Finding your videos/community got me into FFXIV for the long term and I believe your mission statement to help others is going to shine through regardless of the outcome, that's what's most important.

  7. Its on a much different scale but I make a lot of spread sheets and tools at my job for myself and my coworkers. I have always looked at those tools as 'its here if you want to use them' deal and if someone doesn't like them they are not forced to use them. I have had coworkers completely not like what i have made in the past and i just leave it up to them to figure out thier own solution. One other point i would bring up is have you ever looked into any path of exile community tools? Literally all of them are made by random community members and if people don't like them they can f*ck off. Path of building, Craft of Exile, Filterblade, Exilence, Poe lurker, Awakened poe trade, hell even toxic rain spread sheets ( for calculating actual dps ) among other skills are all championed by the community. If someone makes something bad it will just fall by the way side and people will forget about it. Also the POE community can be incredibly toxic and this is how the tools get treated. I dont see the FF14 community blasting you over anything.

  8. My two cents: if you have the balls to publish a YouTube video; with voice-over; and without turning off the comments, you can definitely handle publishing a website. Much love to you!

  9. I need to email you and give you some of what my life was like. Not for any other reason then to make sure you know that you’re not alone down here, in the emotional wastelands. We will be there to help you lay you foundation and to build your walls. Once the roofs is on the house, we’ll celebrate your work and we can has a beer. 😉

  10. Commit, commit, commit! You sound like you're probably you're own worst critic. Try to think about it like this: Putting it out there is going to give you valuable feedback. If people love it, you know you're on the right path; but, if they hate it, that is still immensely valuable feedback that can help you make it better. Put it out there, listen to the feedback, filter the bullshit out, and figure out how to harness the rest to help you make it better.
