  1. The hunts you can kill at any level, have a look at your hunt log and it will tell you how many you need to kill, usually its 3 or 4. You were right though the thing above there head means you need to kill them.

Also click on aether aethernet on the big teleport crystal and you can travel within the city

  2. I am enjoying the videos, keep up the voice acting, the later expansions have far more voiced dialog so it will get easier for you eventually. Please keep going at your own pace. We all want to see you get to the later expansions, but we don't want to see you burn out trying to get through the base game. I will be waiting impatiently for you to get to some of my favorite bits.

  3. I for one am really enjoying your videos. I honestly rushed a bit and didn't read everything. Plus I did this like 8 years ago, so have forgotten alot of it. With 4 expansions there is alot of story to take in. No rush bro

  4. Hey Anakin, great video series! It's always a blast to see someone play such an amazing game for the first time. I think you make great content and have a great set up for it all. My suggestion is – don't worry about anything you consider mess ups or "can do betters." I don't believe you need our suggestions. You just keep doing what you are doing and promote your content. It will do its thing in return. I look forward to seeing you move forward in the story as the mystery man's twin.

  5. I'm enjoying all the little edits such as the sanic theme playing when you used Sprint. They've made me chuckle a few times.

Keep going at your own pace! This game isn't like WoW where raids and such become irrelevant the moment newer content comes out, so there's no reason to rush through anything. FFXIV's level sync system makes it so that just about all content in the game stays relevant, so you'll even be able to experience raids that came out years ago when you get to them. It's one of the coolest thing about FFXIV in my opinion ๐Ÿ™‚

A few tips: If you right click a weapon or piece of armor and then click "Item Comparison" you can easily compare an item to what you currently have equipped in that slot. Also, you don't have to be standing near a crystal to use the Teleport spell, you can use it anywhere. Just thought I'd mention that because when I first started playing I didn't know that and kept running to a crystal every time I wanted to teleport hahaha.

  6. Hey, a tip for later – especially if playing a tank -, add one more row into your hotbars! You'll have a lot of buttons as the game goes on, and having a third set will help plenty. For some reason the game still only gives you two by default.

  7. One of the things I found most helpful regarding gear and what is best to wear is the little Recommended Gear button on the Character window. When you press it, the game looks through everything in your armory chest for what it considers the best gear for your level and job and lets you equip it with one click. It's a little button above your picture that looks like a little paladin.

  8. Having fun watching your progress so far! Glad you're having a good time at your own pace, this game is a long journey that more than rewards being patient and invested. Hope to see more in the future, have fun and good luck ^^

  9. It's wonderful to see you continuing here~ Definitely keep up the voicing for dialog and don't worry too much about proper pronunciation of the names (I can't pronounce most of them myself and I've been playing for a good year plus now). ๐Ÿ™‚
In terms of advice, I should mention that you can teleport directly from your hotbar, the button is off on the right hand side of it by default. Also, regarding the "Rampart" move you got, it's main use is for attempt to block big attacks that you can see coming but can't get out of the way of. That's why it's got such a long cooldown. It's a panic button of sorts to keep you alive longer and still allow you to keep tanking attacks.

  10. 1) the CC's over the mobs does mean you still havent completed the hunt log for them, you usually have to kill 1-4 of them depending on the log and class/job since each one has their own unique logs and requirements. 2) inter-city aethershards is called "Aethernet" which you can use the main aetheryte in the plaza to access the smaller ones.

  11. I'm really happy to hear you're enjoying the game so far. Watching you go through the journey is really fun! And yes please, continue to take it slow. Discovering things at your own pace is part of the fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. If you intend to stay in the free trial for a while, I have one very important piece of advice that apply ONLY to free trial accounts: Unless the quest reward is an IMMEDIATE upgrade to your gear, always pick the gold piece reward. And stockpile them.

That is because free trial accounts have a hard cap of 300k gil, and if you are playing at your own pacing (which is a good thing, IMO), you'll get to that level cap reasonably quickly. Since you do not have access to some major gil sinks like buying minions, mounts and glamour from the Marketboard, you end up with a lot of gil and not a lot of stuff to spend the gil you have.

Stockpiling the gold piece rewards will allow you to immediately sell them as soon as you upgrade to the full game, and get a huge cash influx. When I did that with my trial account upgrade, I got almost a million gil from those vendor trash alone.

  13. Hey, I love your videos. Just wanted to point out that you can't duel people in the overworld. Pvp and dueling has it's own place and arena in the game that you can unlock later (if I remember correctly at lvl30). ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Watching your videos experiencing ffxiv for the first time is very relaxing and I'm excited for your journey. In my opinion ffxiv has one of the best story game I ever played and I love to watch new people getting into it (like the majority of ffxiv comunity XD). Take your time and enjoy the game!

Also was looking forward to see your reaction when you meet Thancred XD, it did not disappoint haha.

  15. You can press Tab to change your focus target, no need to click then attack. Very useful if you need to attack certain enemy. Anyway, good video! it's always nice to see a new player sharing his/her journey haha ^-^

  16. Here's some normal tips:
    1. You can teleport to the other aethernet shards within a city. First you need to attune to all those shards within a city (which you should do for all the major cities, the game will tell you once you've gotten all the shards in that city). To use it, either click on one of the shards or click on the Aethernet function at the Main Aetheryte and choose your destination.
    2. (this is just a suggestion) When it comes to choosing what quests to do, try to put your priorities in this order:
[1] Main Scenario Quest [MSQ] (the icon for these quests are blue with a golden fireball outline), [2] Blue quests (normal outline), [3] Yellow quests.
    – There's no need to explain why MSQ takes 1st priority as it is your progression into the game. The 'normal' Blue quests are recommended to do because it means that you will 'unlock' something in the game (such as new services, new optional dungeons, new classes, new systems, etc), so it would benefit you to do them. The Yellow quests are mostly optional becasue only a few of them leads to unique rewards so do them at your leisure.
    3. You dont need to 'drag' a quest item into the 'turn-in window', you can just right-click on that item and left-click it immediately (which 'Uses' the item and put it in the turn-in window automatically).
    4. Some of the monsters out in the field have a unique icon on top of their names (you can see some of them when you got out of Uldah). Those are Hunt Log targets, just kill them until it disappears as it rewards EXP.
    5. Don't worry about your similar hairstyle to another character, there is an option to unlock a stylist to change hairstyles at some point. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  18. I love how you include the parts where you're just trying to figure out a game system, like aethernet, or chat tabs, it takes me back to my own sprout days (in a good way) XD.

  19. Its the call of the sprout, we older players appear when a sprout starts in the game. Its our sacred duty to watch your progression, provide tips and tricks we wish we knew and experience the journey all over again with a new friend. You've no doubt noticed the community is very active and friendly, don't worry about mispronouncing things, just enjoy your time in the world…. most of us just shorten names to something pronounceable anyway cause half the names look like someone dropped a bag of marbles on a keyboard.

  20. You just realized you're Thancred? ๐Ÿคฃ Those mobs with the half circles over their head are important. You need to keep at them until the markers are gone for a huge experience bonus. Hit "B" on your keyboard to bring up the log.

  21. Its the "Aethernet" within cities, that allows you to access the smaller teleport crystals. So, yes, you can teleport for free within the city from the large crystal XD

Walking is a keybind – which you have to bind yourself ๐Ÿ™‚ Simply go to "Keybinds" in your menu tap – you'll find the "walk" option in the Movement tap, its somewhere within the first 10 options (somewhere below "strave left" and "… right" – dont worry, you'll find it). If I remember correctly, its the same as you'd do in WoW…

Yes, early game gear looks a bit mix and less-match, but thats early game in every game. However, when you finish the Hall-of-the-Novice trials (they are mandatory before you enter your first dungeon), you get a really neat looking tanking set. Stats are also very good and will carry you for at least 10 more levels (lets say lvl30, 35 tops). Also, you will soon unlock the dye- and glamour-system (aka Transmog), but thats a whole new beast to tackle so dont bother too much with that for now ๐Ÿ˜€

That whirly icon above some monsters is indeed an indication, that they are part of your hunt log. You kill a handful of these monsters (its usually 2 or 3) and when you're done, you get some bonus xp – and its a lot, trust me. Doing your hunt log is highly recommended while leveling (though, for your first class you already get tons of xp via MSQ, so its not that important – it is however useful should you start leveling other jobs later), and since its usually along the way already, it also doesnt take up much time. The has 5 levels, each level has 10 types of monsters for you to hunt. The first level monsters are all in your classes' starter zone (Thanalan for you as a Gladiator), the following 4 levels will send you all over the continent (go get them Aetherites ๐Ÿ˜€ ). You can track progress by either checking the log itself or reading your chat box: if you kill a monster from your log, its noted down there: how many you still have to kill or if you're done.

Heh, I'll advice you to kill bees as fast as possible in this world: from a certain level upward they have an instant-kill sting, and it works even if you're max level XD

No duelling in open world XD PvP is only possible in certain arenas, but you'll get there later ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, there's an Aestetician (barbar), that you'll unlock later – just in case the haircut thing weights you down XD

I think there is nothing you can improve on at the moment, at least not until you do group content. And if you ask people in your dungeon what do to or if they have tips, usually you get useful answers. The game is vast and its over ten years old, so lots of content and lots of good advice ๐Ÿ˜€ Only thing you can do at this point is enjoy the ride. FF14 is a game that values the journey over the destination, so take your time and dont feel like you have to catch up or something. First, it wouldnt work anyway, and second, it would burn you out if you tried ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. There is a barber you can unlock in one of the main cities via a lengthy sidequest so you can avoid the spiderman meme every time you see Thancred, but at this point would you really want to?

  23. gets through the cutscene with the mother crystal … "I don't know what that meant!" Neither did we! Light? Dark? Meteors falling? Visions of others also called by Big Crystal zooming around like determined chickens? Instructions to go fetch how many crystals again?

for my helpful sprout tip, go into your Options and turn off player character names by default – it will make navigating the cities sooo much easier when you're not surrounded by a crowd of nameplates.

  24. You may find it helpful to rearrange your skills on your hotbars. I like to put all the "generic" commands such as teleport, sprint, etc over on a separate hotbar then have my single target combos together, then put my AoE combos together elsewhere, then I have a section for self buffs like Fight or Flight, and a section for defensive buffs like Rampart. Compartmentalizing them like this helps to avoid accidentally using an AoE on a single target or using a defense cooldown when it's not needed.

XIV has a ton of customization when it comes to hotbars and HUD setup so find a layout that works for you! Sooner or later you'll have so many actions that you'll have quite a cluttered mess on your hands if you don't establish at least a loose sorting guideline.

  25. If you feel it too uncanny looking like a main NPC, you can take on a quest when you get to Limsa Lominsa where you get access to a hairdresser ^^ Also the big tragedy Papashan talked about was the big dragon you saw in the first cutscene ๐Ÿ˜‚

  26. small suggestion. do every side quests and hunt logs. it will give you exps, gils(that you will need later in the game for armors and weapons.) and some free stuff. And get into all crafting jobs and gathering jobs, it will save you lots of gils too. enjoy the games hope will meet one day in there.๐Ÿ˜‰
