Heavensward is a phenomenal storyline. Start to finish, it's one helluva rollercoaster that seriously reels you in. I had to force myself to logout one night when the clock ticked after 1am LOL
Shadowbringers: Stands menacingly
I will be pleased to tell you that all of your questions will be answered…. After you finish Endwalker.
Stormblood and Shadowbringer will only spawn more questions. final fantasy is like a long TV series that you enjoy all the way through.
Heavensward hits hard, but you also know Shadowbringer’s other name is feelsbringer.
Final Fantasy 7 is definitely the one I would recommend. They have a remake for a good reason. Or more retro ones will be FFV, if you can handle the graphics.
If you like stories, FFX has it in you. it has an overarching story whilst somewhat linear it struck your heart strings. from a martyr to Savior, from dream to hope :''''''''''')))))))))))
One thing that I really love about the game is that they solidly build a world and then the rules of that world so well that you understand how things are supposed to work down to the behavior of Aether and how it reacts in the world. They stay so well within their own rules that you can see something happen and immediately have an in-universe understanding of how that took place. That kind of knowledge really draws you farther into the story and makes you feel like a part of it.
You should play Final Fantasy 9. It has everything good about the FF games, in a single one. It's a real masterpiece.
Or FF7. That's a great game too.
Yeah when people say 14 has the best MMO story, it’s not just a platitude or tribalism. It’s legit the best mmo story there is. ShB and EW are better than Heavensward to the point that imo they’ve got the best story in the franchise. And I’ve played every game in the series except 2,3 and 5. The gameplay also gets much much better starting in Stormblood. Stormblood’s story is badly paced but the patch content/story is S tier.
As one who refuse to play any FF online at first beause I was sure it just couldn´t work I had play FFI as a child on NES FF is for me, my first encounter with fantasy games I play all until FFXIII and now playing XIV never played XV for me lacks compare with all the others even XIII show plroblems. Is up to debate but probably FFXIII marked the decline on the brand.
Each Final Fantasy is similar but with a unique story and unique setting in the same universe, each is magnificent and each touch you different most have there most favorite and most desagree on which one is the best.
Most on the US got to know FFI as such, FFVI as FFII and FFVI as FFIII. it wasn´t until publish in the PS that started been number properly.
you should read how FFI save squaresoft from bankruptcy ment to be there last game…. the last fantasy….
For me I learn to read english to be able to play them.
Ff14 reminded me that a good story can go a long way to keep some players coming back to your games. Warcraft was the same way back in the day.
They give you so much in the free trial, and yet it sells you on the further expansions perfectly. They have the confidence to give you something as good as HW for free and still know that you'll probably buy the rest of the game.
My thoughts after Heavensward:
This story is a fucking masterpiece. There's no possible way they can top this.
My thoughts after Shadowbringers: I was wrong. THIS is a fucking masterpiece. There's no way they can beat this.
My thoughts after Endwalker: that was a fucking masterpiece. They ALMOST beat Shadowbringers.
If i got to suggest which FF games to start, it would be these fellows:
For classic, goes for FF4 and FF6! These 2 FFs never disappoint people who played them. For the PS1 generation FF9 is a must! Others would recommand FF7 too but personally I think you must try FF9. FF10 has a pretty good story but sphere system almost drove me mad (IMO).
For the spin-off, I would suggest Final Fantasy Tactics (also know FFT War of the Lions). It’s a turn-base strategy game with wonderful characters, story, and gameplays. If you didn’t mind the strategy game, I HIGHLY recommand this game!!
This is it, welcome to XIV.
Voice Acting… I think it was more a case of better Voice Direction for HW; the ARR voice cast was great for what it was, but I want to give them a mulligan with the dev cycle rushing to get the game ready and out to market
Playing Older Final Fantasies… up to you to jump into the pool, but the fandom will easily recommend 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12 (and sometimes 15) from the mainline franchise… the older ones are getting hd pixel re-releases, but some of the mechanics and leveling can be a bit grindy; although, yes… strongly recommend to play them for the story (like the 14 msq), and enjoy the roots of many of the easter-eggs, homages and nods in 14. Expect 30-50 hours of investment per game.
Best ones for me: FF6, FF9 and FF10
If you analyze it, you are correct. You just move from NPC to NPC. There are very little gameplay. But the story is so well done, you are fully immersed to it. And i think that is what Video games should stride for; immersion. Playing thru FF14, it reminded me that gameplay isnt the only thing to accomplish immersion.
Free trial, btw
FF XII has the most XIV feeling combat of all the single player FF games IMO
I'm just so glad you had a wonderful time just like I did ❤️.
I played all the FF games including tactics and crystal. It depends on what type of game play you're looking for. 4,6,7,9,10 is all good
I would agree with a bunch of people here.
If you want a great Final Fantasy story: 4, 6, 7, 9, 10. Those are the ones I would highly recommend from a story-telling perspective. I'd also highly recommend 5, but not as much for story as it's a lot more of a light-hearted romp, but the gameplay of mixing Jobs is top-notch. Final Fantasy Tactics and Bravely Default builds on that system. 1 started it by being single class choices, 3 made it swappable classes, 5 made it mixable classes. It's a wonderful progression.
