More about Final Fantasy 14:

“Final Fantasy XIV[b] is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) for Microsoft Windows personal computers, developed and published by Square Enix in 2010. It is the fourteenth entry in the main Final Fantasy series and the second MMORPG in the series after Final Fantasy XI. Set in the fantasy realm of Eorzea, players take control of a customized avatar as they explore the land and are caught up in both an invasion by the hostile Garlean Empire and the threat of the Primals, the deities of the land’s Beastmen tribes. Eventually, they are embroiled in a plot by a Garlean Legatus to destroy the Primals by bringing one of the planet’s moons down on Eorzea.

Final Fantasy XIV takes place in a high fantasy setting. The main location is Eorzea, a continent on the larger planet Hydaelyn: this contrasts Final Fantasy XI which uses one name to refer to the entire world and its regions. Eorzea is broken up among three main powers: the forest nation of Gridania; the desert-based Ul’dah sultanate; and the thalassocracy of Limsa Lominsa, Eorzea’s dominant maritime power. Other important locations include the scholarly city-state of Sharlayan and the Garlean Empire, a hostile northern power with highly developed technology. Five years prior to the start of the game, the Garlean Empire invaded the land of Ala Mhigo, but were prevented from conquering Eorzea by the attacks of the ancient dragon Midgardsomr and his dragon hordes. In response to the Empire’s threat, the three nations of Eorzea reform the Grand Companies, comprehensive centers of command which combine the cities’ military and economic assets. The Grand Companies attracted people from all walks of life, who take up the mantle of Adventurers.”

  1. Gotta agree. In terms of narrative, Y'sh and Lyse are objects of desire but are by no means desirous themselves of WoL. Alisaie and G'raha are closest to WoL in terms of crushing/admiration.

This sounds sappy, but as an older female gamer (who plays a catboi Keeper), the G'raha Tia scene was my first choice… and I didn't read into it anything sexual, per se. Instead, I heard the words I needed to hear at that moment (IRL stuff)–unconditional support with no strings attached. I was deeply moved, and although this scene is less teary for many gamers, I was incredibly moved. To this day, I remain a firm G'raha Tia stan.

  2. To answer why they focus on saving the people in the now, rather than work on the solution of the whole. They've got no clues on where to start with how or why. But those people will die now if nothing is done. "To ignore the plight of those one might conceivably save is not wisdom- it is Indolence." It's a quote from Louisoix Leveilleur, the twin's grandparent and founder of the Circle of Knowledge, whom all the current party of Scions travelling with you (minus G'raha) were originally a part of. If they didn't hold true to that single line of dialogue, they'd be doing no better than the Sharlayans who had 200 years to prepare, and Hydaelyn who had over 10,000 years. Both have only come up with the idea of "We run away." So the choice is obvious. Stick to your moral guns and save everyone whose hand you can still reach. "For those we have Lost, For those we can still save," Minfilia Ward, First Antecedent of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.

  3. Honestly, I just enjoy the progression this story has had overall, it wouldn't be nearly as good without all the little parts coming together. Heavensward is hyped, but I think we should just give these storytellers credit for how things have overall flowed so well. But then again, as an older guy of 38 here, I've been kinda weary with the FF fanbase's tendency to go "this is trash, worst storyline" but not really giving a concise opinion for why. I'm all for people being honest with their opinion, but man, things reach this fever pitch any time we're near a new FF haha. I agree with Heavensward being a top tier storyline though, but not quite the shining jewel its made out to be, I had much more feelings for parts of Stormblood (Yotsuyu's storyline) and Shadowbringers(learning more about the cultures of the First).

That said, all the Scions really do feel like they have your back, I couldn't trash on any of them.
