I Leveled Every Dawntrail Job to 100 So You Don't Have To – FFXIV Job Tier List

It took a few months but I’ve finally managed to hit level 100 on all 21 of the combat jobs in Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail. Here’s how they stack up in my opinion!

  1. Always trust you for down-to-earth commentary on the jobs, Vit. Bonus points for still showing my Bard some love. It got some decent QoL and buffs, so I’m hoping for more support utility in 8.0.

  2. As a MCH main, yes. The job (in an endgame raid scenario) feels the best it has ever felt and it's my favourite class to raid with. We just need more of a potency buff and it would be in a perfect spot.

  3. In general melees are extremely well balanced and monk is on par with other ones.
    BUT
Monk being a very rDPS heavy job scales a lot better of a good party. If everybody in the party pumps – monk is just that much better.
Same with Ninja. very dependant on how party performs.
Monk also is now a very very good dance partner (among melees, picto is a different beast) for overall group dps.
Pairs extremely good with jobs that provide crit buff. (SCH, DRG, DNC, even BRD). Remember – Bootshine (Leaping opo) crits everytime. Any crit buff scales it. Every crit monk does get him a chakra. 5 chakras = 320 potency forbidden chakra. They more monk crits and the faster the teammates GCDs are – the more damage it does not only from obvious crits alone but also "free" extra attacks which are not that obvious. So yes, monk is still a very layered and intricate job to play optimally even after DT rework nuke that admittedly killed off a lot of depth in optimal play.
Riddle of Earth is 20% so monk can tank some serious heat in a pinch and also heal himself and people in 5 yalms around.
Mantra is insanely strong when used smartly in pair with SCH shields. Straight up silly mechanics denying mitigation.
By far the best job to manage quick uptime disengages which this raid tier in particular is absolutely riddled with. Six Sided Star is THE button every other melee would be excited to have.

Insanely strong in legacy content (90-80 and 70 lvl ultimates, savage raids etc.) Because buffs are now 20 seconds which allows to do some fun triple blitz under buffs shenanigans sometimes.
And it is never NEVER boring. I have been playing monk for 7 years already and not once have i been bored while doing so. it is always fun.
It is a job that just keeps giving and rewards every ounce of time you spend with it.
Yes it is still kind of intimidating and a lot to take in but nowhere near the level of EW Optimal Drift monk

  4. lol im the opposite ive got all craft/gather max, so far 6 classes at 100, slowly working them up, lowest is still like 52 but avg is 80 now i like to level them armor types together for inventory management haha, really enjoying samurai to my surprise, all the ability names used to scare me haha so i never tried but its rly fun

  5. I want to like gunbreaker. I do. but despite its rotation it still clearly does tank damage. It just leaves me feeling like im furiously swinging a water noodle. I prefer paladin. I feel like its all on brand and feeling like im also a half caster and a partial healer. Paladin feels like they do a little of everything in a very satisfying way for me. I also I love the dark knight class identity. Getting dunked on by the dev team repeatedly feels very masochistic.

  6. monk is so damn fun. sam and monk are my bread and butter. personally i'm a little worried that it's just going to get changed again for whatever reason they find this time. for now, i will enjoy it

  7. I prefer scholar (I never bother with dumping aetherflow) when healing and I feel like white mage is just "adequate". That said, I actively dislike playing astro. It is the only job from expansion to expansion that I actively avoid playing until I have nothing else to level. Astro is the overly long road to a close destination. Just too much work for the same reward.

Tank wise, it depends on what you're doing. I'm neutral on the gameplay experience but paladin is probably the top overall for raiding. Any dungeon/exploration/open world content, warrior is unbeatable.

I definitely agree on Samurai for melee and I really enjoy the feel of reaper. Viper wise, I never liked the feel of it but I don't understand what people's problem is with noxious gnash being removed. I leveled the job to 100 and never cared about the ability because it just happens in normal play. I didn't feel any difference whatsoever before or after the removal.

  8. About Viper I gotta say, I played all of 7.0 msq with the release version and I disliked how its debuff was just discount reaper death´s design. But outright removing that mechanic certainly wasn´t the way, they could have given it a DoT to fit the poison feel or something like a "hit the enemy x amount of times for a chunk of bonus damage" kind of mechanic. The latter would fit the rapid fire playstyle of the job well.

  9. I hate the aesthetic of astro. I am not going to play card nerd, I don’t care how good it is. I’d rather they just add more skill expression opportunities to whm and sage. I think astro is a dumb job and I don’t want to play it.

  10. I love Samurai as a concept but its getting harder and harder to justify playing it. It pays melee tax, cast timer tax, no party buffs tax, positional tax and also (still) has a lot of unnecessary button bloat. What does it get in return? Less damage than a Viper.

  11. Also i have to note a very neat advantage of having a Monk in a party.
His Brotherhood buff is very audible when used.
Everyone in a party hears that the burst starts. It is a very insignificant thing but helpful nevertheless.
I have raided with inexperienced players who sometimes struggle with 2min burst. I usually tell them to react to Brotherhood sound going off. And surprisingly it works.

  12. Thanks for the great vid as usual ! We kinda have the same tastes and I wanted to lvl a new melee class so here I go trying monk. I love dancer but that person that made that tillana change post media tour needs to stay away from class changes next expansion.

  13. I feel like and this is just my opinion people ate me alive for this on Reddit….. if they just make Black Mage’s Ley Lines larger and work for everyone spell/ skill speed up, shorten the CD a little bit I did see that people mentioned that the timer for it stops when you are actively in it which sounded kind of interesting….and MAYBE…. gave you 2 charges of it. They could also shorten the cooldown for Manaward for survivability, bumped damage up for all the spells it would be in a much better place. Also why should i lose all my flare star charges i should be able to cast a weaker version of it if it’s under the 6. Also while its not exactly hard to activate but why is thunderhead a thing just make them a cast that use MP..

  14. If they remove that silly life surge button DRG is an easy S tier. The job eould flow so well without it.

SAM to me is currently the best after doing MSQ and currently maining VPR. Tsubame every time us rad, fantastic change. RPR is just fun. Havent leveled NIN and MNK yet.

  15. one thing me and a lot of endgame raiding friends were talking about were
-removing the res of the casters so red/smu are allowed to deal more damge but also put them on the phys range as like a 5 sec "cast"
were there have to stand on top of the corpse to use "first aid kit".
(making it a cast so it is still deamage negativ so healers should still be the one who are prioreticed to res first
and on top of the corpse so it is not makes the impact of dieing more potent so phy can not res mid mechanik)
-or remove hard res on casters and implement a instandcast ogcd res on 8min cooldown for every of the 4 casters
(problem with that is that casters are now the one who have to always be the one who res first)
