Re: the stoning scene. That's occupation for you man! You think people who have been conquered and treated like dirt are going to think twice about insulting and attacking those of their own who turn around and join the oppressors? I really liked the way Stormblood shows this side of war and how it affects people on a personal and societal level.
9:50 — Yeah, but he's GOOD at it XD XD XD
11:15 — And this is why I recommend leveling Monk and finishing their questline ^.^
19:50 — Walls in general hurt – mostly at least, so you want to make it a habit and stay clear from them. Kelpie casts Hydro Push or Pull, so you either stay close to him or on the other side of the arena 😀 However, why that tank of yours wants to get cozy with the wall… well, its not deadly, it just applys a dot… and tanks have tank privilegdes, so there's that 😛
21:50 — You have to be transformed, otherwise you dont get over the chasms 😀 Also, if you just hover of them and wait for the enchantment to drop, you fall and die ^.^
22:18 — Also, like me in my first runs, you missed that all the monsters after the second boss transformed back into their humanoid form… and died anyway 🙁 It stands to reason that the enchantment is also something like a timestop spell and the victims age 20 or 25 years within seconds… the shock might be enough to kill them… You can speculate a lot here. Fact is, its f'ing depressing 🙁
22:23 — I dunno… probably the guy who put it there ^.^ I give you a hint: his name rhymes with "-eoderic" 😀
54:43 — Agree there… Though its enough she "only" has to endure the guards presence…
I really appreciated how this game wasn't afraid to go there. It shocked me too with the stoning scene. But I realized in times of tyranny and war, anything can happen. Nobody is immune to the woes of suffering. That is the cold hard truth that sobered me from my relatively peaceful life.
God, rewatching Fordola's backstory hurts so much. It was so brutal. To answer your question about the three guys that were in Fordola's group in the flashback, they were part of her band of Skulls. They were inside the tower when she gave the order to fire on us – she even said their names under her breath right before doing so.
it is a good time to tell you, that you should start leveling other jobs to prepare yourself for role quest in ShB and EW. A tank, a healer, melee range and magic range jobs. It will blend nicely as you go through all the content in SB and eventually reach ShB.
I don't know just how much side content you plan to do between now and the start of Shadowbringers, but it might be best to at least sprinkle in the raid turns alongside the patches they originally became available. This will also be good practice for later so as to not break continuity. Plus it will save everyone a month-long wait between 4.5 and 5.0. Something to consider. Anyway, love the series!
Oh Jōmon period Japan, your pottery makes the best minibosses.
Arenvald poking fun at Alphi being afraid of a floating spectre is a cute reference at him being afraid of ghosts
About the closing door shot, they started playing with cinematography around here and really hit their stride with camera work in Shadowbringers. So that's fun to look forward to.
Love your journey so far! Stormblood post patches are easily one of my favorites. It really encapsulates the ugliness of war outside the warzone itself. The aftermath, the lingering hatred, the bitterness of commonfolks, etc. I hope you enjoy this emotion roller coaster ride!
That being said, apologies in advance for this unsolicited advice, but reading and trying to decipher the boss move’s name should make it much easier for you to avoid mechanics. It’s a fun mini detective game for me whenever I try new dungeon / trial, so I’d like to encourage you to try it too
This is why you shouldn't get to know your enemies. The less you think of them as human, the easier it is to insult them and call for their blood.
stormblood is so easily forgotten. it has some of the greatest moment in the game
They really did up their cutscene game. And tho I played the game in JP voice, the EN voice acting is also really good, especially Fordola's. So much emotions in the delivery
And Arenvald is such a bro I want more msq scenes with him!
Fordola saw all the Relic Grinding I did and also the Dark Knight quest.
Fordola's story asks some real tough questions of humanity, which you addressed in your commentary about how to treat the "enemy". How do we determine if rehabilitation is possible? The path for everyone is going to be different and society doesn't have the kind of resources to give anyone the resonance, if that is the right answer. It's a fascinating study.
Yep, 4.1 ended up being kind of a longer one because it needed to sort of give you direction while Lyse figures out things to do, and then sort of wrap up small background stories from 4.0. Fordola's backstory is definitely such an emotional hit and really drives in the "don't learn who your enemies are", but we'll get some chance to explore those themes in the rest of the patches. As the song goes "One mother's pride is another mother's sorrow / their tears both soak the land that they love."
