  1. As someone said the trial is the entire first game and first expansion for free. No time limit, no limit on jobs (those that are in the first 2 parts) the dungeon limit or raid limit on any content from the first game and second expansion. 1-60 free. Also unlike other mmo’s u are not locked to 1 character = 1 class. (Needing like 10 plus different characters to play all the classes.) your 1 character can switch classes/jobs freely. U must do the intro quest of each class but then can switch freely from there on. Each job is leveled separately so you can be a lvl 80 paladin, a level 80 dragoon, level 72 white mage, level 30 black mage level 5 archer. U also have a separate “bag for your gear so on adventures you can switch on the fly.

  2. You can play the free trial with unlimited time up to lv60 and complete the first expansion entirely for free as well, that's well over 100+ hours, once you are done you can buy the Endwalker expansion as it will contain all previous expansions released + 1month of sub. Then it's $14 each month, but you can very much complete the whole story in less than 2 months and be ready when Endwalker releases.

  3. Unless you're playing hours at a time every day and skipping cutscenes, the free trial could easily last you more than a month. There's basically two whole games worth of content in the free trial, alone. Then you get a one-month sub included when you actually buy the game. In my opinion, it's the best mmo currently on the market. It doesn't take months to get through it because of grind, but because of actual content and a well thought-out story. Highly recommend for anyone remotely interested in mmos or even just regular rpgs.

  4. Dude with sword and shield: The Warrior of Light, representing your character, as a Paladin (Tank)
Girl in red with a saber: Alisaie, the bratty tomboyish sister, as a Red Mage (Magic Damage). Fierce enough to fight her way since 14yo, has a little crush on the WoL and always tries to find an opening to mock her brother.
Boy with flying guns: Alphinaud, the polite soft brother, as a Sage (Healer). He's a diplomat and sometimes a little overthinker and snobby.
Elf with spear riding a dragon: Estinien, the grumpy edgy Dragoon (Melee Damage) who acts like a older brother to Alphinaud, riding Vlitra, youngest of the elder dragons. Estinien was once possessed by the powers of the elder brother of Vlitra, Nidhogg.
Cloaked Asian boy: Fandaniel, the mysterious psychopathic ancient sorcerer who took the body of Asahi, a side villain of Stormblood. We don't know his major motivations, but he wants to kill everybody and everything and then kill himself.
White-haired human with a gunblade: Thancred, the father of the crew, as a Gunbreaker (Tank). He is the father figure of the team and once took care of Minfilia, the leader, and fell in love with her.
Elf in black robe: Urianger, the big brain scholar as an Astrologian (Healer). He uses ten words where two would suffice, talks weird and has a brain the size of a galaxy.
Ginger catboy: G'raha Tia, our biggest fan and most reliable kitten. He is also a scholar and historian, always sneaking in to find some sweet Ancient World secrets.
White-haired grumpy elf man: Forchenault, Alphinaud and Alisaie's father, head of the Sharlayan Council, a nation much like Old Athens. He is against Sharlayan intervention on the conflicts of the game.
White-haired bossy catgirl: Y'shtola, everybody's crush as a Black Mage (Magic Damage). She's blind but can see the magical energy flow of the planet and uses it to investigate magical disturbances. She doesn't take shit home and can crush a man's heart just like their leg.
Blonde dude with a scythe: Zenos, our main rival and son of the emperor Varis, as a Reaper (Melee Damage). Zenos is a battle-horny fighter and wants to recreate the Final Days by using you as an antagonist force against his artificial dark powers.

  5. It used to be that this was an easy sell for anyone who liked MMO's. As it's easily the best MMO on the market right now. But honestly, in the last 2 years since the launch of Shadowbringers, FFXIV has become arguably the best Final Fantasy game ever made, with Arguably the best story in a video game. If you love Final Fantasy, you'd be remiss to not play through this game. Even if you only play a couple hours a week. You'll catch up eventually and it will be so worth it.

  6. There is an optional to pay for story skips so you can catch up to the latest expansion in the blink of an eye, but in my opinion that defeats the purpose of enjoying the story and its buildup. Think of the base game and its expansions as movies just like the ones in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Different movies all converge into a singular storyline like Avengers. Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is like Avengers: Endgame.

  7. The free trial is great, I'm a lvl 44 Dragoon now! I love the MSQs so far, dungeons, different areas–all in all the game plus the community (FF 14 community's sht posting and memes are too good). My only problem with the free trial is the restriction to add friends and also the ability to join parties. Met a lot of friendly peeps in Eorzea but the fact that I can't add them makes me wanna buy the full game which I am planning to. I'm gonna finish ARR first before I proceed with my purchase of the full game that includes the expansion. For those who are having second thoughts with this MMO, please try the free trial and if you're a solo player like me when it comes to MMOs you'll enjoy it despite restrictions. Eorzea and its community welcomes sprouts (newbies) with open arms!

  8. So the free trial is not only FF14, its also the 1st expansion Heavensward, and its permanently free. There is easily 2000 hours of content in the freetrial alone, but not this: You start in A Realm Reborn (ARR), the story and music is incredible, however Heavensward is better than ARR…. and Stormblood is better than Heavensward…. and Shadowbringers blows everything before it out of the water. You're in for a treat if you can enjoy the game through, story, music, raids, trials, exploration… Its my favorite MMO for a good reason. I hope you guys try it.

  9. You can now play through the entirety of the critically acclaimed mmorpg FFXIV: A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for FREE with no restrictions on playtime!

  10. One of the great things about this game is that it is designed so you don't HAVE to play it every day. SquareEnix has even gone on record that you are welcome to play, take as long a break as you need, and then come play again when you want to. And you don't lose your account/character for lack of activity. They even have a system set up so that people who haven't played for a significant amount of time are marked as 'returning adventurers' when they come back so Mentors can help them reacquaint themselves with the game after long absences. Plus, the game has 'Rested EXP', which is accumulated while idle or offline in city areas, and doubles experience earned. So the game basically rewards you for taking breaks!
The game is beautiful, well-written, and has a ton of content, plus the community is one of the most welcoming and helpful of any MMO community I've seen. I would highly suggest taking the free trial, since it includes the first expansion, HEAVENSWARD, which is where the game really starts to shine. While the grind through the first 50 levels can be somewhat daunting to new players, it is absolutely worth it.

  11. Also, the song for the trailer is performed by The Primals, FFXIV's in-house band. Though they have a special guest singer for this expansion which is Sam Carter from The Architects.

  12. $15 a month is a steal when you consider the amount of content, especially if you include the extremely generous free trial. Like, to get to break even with the price of a standard AAA video game which is about $60-$70, you need to be subscribed for 4-5 months. That's more than enough time to get all the way through the MSQ (Main Story Quests), which is hundreds of hours long (people debate it's actual length but most agree it's at least 300+ hours long). The real problem is do you have the time to put into it, because this game will suck you in, not just in the MSQ but also in the side content. Hunting, Crafting, Raids, Guilds, etc. There's so much to do!

  13. Fun fact, the music in this trialer is a mix of all tracks used in previous expansion trailers.
But seriously, if u like a storydriven MMO, then look no further, it has the best story i have ever seen in a MMO(or JRPG's in general) and a great community to boot, so if u have time, give the trial a go.

  14. The composer is Masayoshi Soken and the vocals were sung by Sam Carter from the band Architects. Soken is a beloved part of the development team, without his music XIV wouldn't be nearly as memorable or engrossing as it is. It was revealed last month at Fanfest that he spent 8 months last year in the hospital fighting cancer, even composing some of the best songs directly from his hospital bed. Due to to the pandemic, not only could no one visit him, no one on the team even knew he had cancer except the games director and producer Naoki Yoshida (aka Yoshi-P). He asked the higher ups in the company to not even tell anyone he was sick so they wouldn't worry about him and it wouldn't impact the work on the game. Everyone just assumed he was working from home like the rest of them. The good news is he's out of the hospital now and his cancer is currently in full remission. But it's certainly taken it's toll on him. He looks 5+ years older than he did last year and he was wearing an obvious wig from the chemo at the Fanfest.

  15. the funniest part of the trailer is, at the fanfest they said they are removing all belts from the gear and loot tables. then you see old derplander of light walking in wearing belts all over his armor as the first shot.

  16. You save a few bucks a month if you purchase annual subcription, esp if you add multiple characters (1 character is enough, you can play all classes on one character) or other completely optional perks (retainers, etc) but of course that's after seeing if you love the game, which I know youll love the game.

  17. It's about the same price as WoW. Subscriptions tend to be $15-20CAD, but the free trial actually takes you to level 60 and covers the first expansion Heavensward. It is probably the best MMO in terms of regularly updating with more DLC content that is covered by the cost of your subscription, and the base game Main Story Questline that you level through has literally hundreds of hours of playtime total if you watch all the cutscenes. This is just like every other Final Fantasy game you play on consoles, story driven with lots of dialogue and world building. You have to actually get close to max level to even be able to appreciate the game for what it is, because you can't really base it on how it feels at the start given how long ago that content was made. Every patch is better than the last and this Endwalker expansion is supposed to be the finale to 10 years of story.

  18. It's a numbered FF title, and the story plays a big part in the game, much like the other FF titles (probably which makes it an MMORPG with an emphasis on the RPG – but some may think otherwise). Endwalker trailer was bomb <3

Hm. Spending £7.69 for Entry sub (1 character per server, 8 characters active total) as I play with only one character and too little time raising alts lol. That is outside the base game and expac purchases.

The Free Trial has been buffed to allow people to try the game, and it includes the base game (2.0) to Heavensward (3.0). This also provides access to HW jobs (Astrologian, Dark Knight and Machinist) once you are able to reach the expac's main city. Pretty generous imo as previously, the free trial was level capped to 35, as compared to the present which allows players to reach level 60 and complete the whole HW expansion in prep for Stormblood (FFXIV 4.0) which requires the base game + expansion purchase.

Also, fun note, the music combines themes from the previous expansions: Heavensward (3.0) theme with the Dragoon and the dragon (wee), Stormblood (4.0) with robed guy and burning airship, Torn from the Heavens (recurring boss theme or epic scenario OST power up song) in the colourful village that seemed peaceful but the "the end draws nigh", and a snippet of Shadowbringers (5.0) with "One brings shadow, one brings light" near the last part of the trailer. XDDDD

  19. The free trial they mention lets you play up to level 60 and includes the first expansion, Heavensward. The only limitations are that you can't join free companies (guilds), have retainers (which are your bank and how you post things on the MB), or use the market board, and you'll have a 300k gil cap (comparable to about 500gold in WoW), which are really limitations in place to curtail RMT. There's no time limit, and the only content you're locked out of is the content from the Stormblood and Shadowbringers expansions; everything from A Realm Reborn and Heavensward is available to you, which, including cutscenes, side content, and other things you can access could easily get you 1000+ hours of gameplay. It's basically the first 4 years of the game's content for free with no time limit.

  20. We would love to have you join us in the land of Eorzea, if you started now you could meet us I. The expansion when it releases. Follow the main story quests, 30-55 or so becomes a little bit of a slog with a huge payoff though. Don’t miss out on the best story told in gaming or arguably movies in the last I’d say 20years. You will see players across YouTube say the same. We’d love to have you guys it’s a great time to join.

  21. add the fact the full game is majorly discounted and the sub is only 15 usd a month its not really bad given how thats what just a few cups of coffie a game with 10 years of excellent content

  22. This is the perfect time to start if you are planning on it. You'll have time to go through the story at your own pace, ride on a wave of players at your same level all new to the game as well, and you'll experience the hype of pre-expansion FFXIV by the time you hopefully catch up. I'd normally rec a total of 2-3 months of playtime depending on how quick you are (this takes into account time to adult).
