FFXIV Wins "Best Community" & "Still Playing" Awards: A Message of Thanks

Over the past few months the FFXIV community has meant so much to me. All of you have welcomed me with open arms and reminded me that games have the amazing ability to bring people together… and for that I will be forever grateful.

  1. My friends and i were new to the game and we did the ultima weapon extreme fight. Im new to the mmo genre and ff14 is my first mmorpg game so im still learning how to play the game and same to my 2 other friends who i was playing with.

We wiped as we’re new to the extreme mode and after our 2nd wipe, on of our healers was very upset, telling us that how bad we were playing and how will we ever survive the other harder contents in the future if we cant get through this ARR extreme content.

At that time, my friends and I are on a discord call and one of my friends were pissed on how rude the guy was. He even responded to him “Just heal dude” 😂

We almost finished the fight but On our 3rd wipe, the rude guy left the party and another player came to replace him. On the chat, everyone’s cheering us sprout and giving us words of encouragements and tips. On the 4th try, we finished the fight. 🙂

There is a handful of rotten tomatoes in the community. The ff14 Community if not perfect but its overwhelmingly nice and very kind to the sprouts. I finished shadowbringers and now on queue for Endwalker. Im happy to be a part of this community. Congrats FF14 for winning these awards!

  2. It might sound dumb but… I honestly owe a lot to this game. I ran my own business as a DJ for weddings and stuff and was earning a good living off of it and was engaged to someone back in 2018. At the start if 2019 I had a nasty accident that resulted in a bad dislocation and break in my arm and shoulder, completely preventing me from working for a while, my relationship went south and we broke off the marriage. In mid 2019 I was at my most depressed I've been in a long time. And I just decided to give the game a try because it was £5 on Steam. By the end of 2019 Covid hit and completely destroyed any hopes of me reclaiming my business and I was still suffering from bad pain in my arm.

If it wasn't for this game I am truly worried about how I would have handled these circumstances. It gave me something to look forward to, helped me use my arm in a small way to help it heal, helped me meet friends who I could confide in, it helped me be part of a world and a community where I could be happy. And for that this game is now something I cherish.

  3. I started FFXIV at the end of Heavensward, when Stormblood Hype was rising. I thought FFXIV was just another MMOs grind that I used to before, but with premium subscription price tagged on it. It was a hard call for me but, I don't regret it. After years of yearning for a good MMO, FFXIV finally gave me the answer. Even tho I'm a casual who's only sub whenever I feel like to play, but FFXIV is still the best MMO experience I have, the Story, the Gameplay, the Music and most Importantly, the Community around it. this is the only game where my friend I make along the way and the fc just tell me to take my time and enjoy the game, with my past experiences with MMO was "go here, grind here, get to endgame asap, meet up at xx to raid, go go go!" kind of thing, it was really nice change of pace.

  4. I tried this game 3 times, and got hooked on the third, it took me learning patience and learning how to "stop to smell the roses" instead of expecting instant gratification all the time, because the build-up and the attention to detail always pays off with this dev team. They've restored my faith in what games are becoming, which I've all but lost faith in within the "AAA" markets. Most importantly however, it allowed me to make friends and connect with my siblings which live across the world from me. We talk regularly and share items and achievements, as well as craft together, and it's honestly brought us closer.

I came from WoW, where everything came down to how well one performs, and one's worth in the game was tied to that as well. FF14 showed me that it doesn't have to be like that, that fun can be the main driving force for a game, in whatever iteration a player wants. It took me taking my time adjusting to FF14 to realize what I was missing, what I was really wanting – fun. I think it's through this design, and the beautiful storytelling which prioritizes friendship, love, compassion, forgiveness, and goodness that cultivates the community we have in game. FF14 isn't just a game to me – and I know it isn't perfect, but I still feel that it's a masterpiece, a work of art that allows for the best of humanity to shine through it.

  5. The community is so important to me because it allows me to be able to see things like this. To still see people coming long after I did, and having that experience that I did; enjoying themselves and feeling truly happy playing a game again, just like I felt those years back. To see the talent coming in and making amazing content like this, with such heartwarming messages at the end like you left, that's what does it for me.

The fact that so many people share in that same bliss instead of toxic disparity that we felt from our previous relics of the past, and everyone can come together and be welcoming and helpful and so eager to hold out their hand to the next one in line, just so that next one in line can share in that same joy that they felt. I say it all the time, that after such a short amount of time, this game changes people, the community changes people, and for the better. It may sound dramatic but I became a better person from this game, I treat people better, I'm more accepting, I'm more giving and caring thanks to the warmth of a virtual world and community that has worked tirelessly to earn the dedication of my time and emotion and will continue to do so for years to come. ♥

  6. I've played wow and d2 for a very long time and while both have their own merit none of them impacted me like how ff14 did. When I saw folks just saying hello and gg after countless dungeons I went through my heart was touched every time. My own FC welcomed me with open arms and despite my anxiety to meet new people they were patient, helpful, and respectful every step of the way.

But the one thing that made me love this game was when Yoshi put himself into the game to thank us for playing the game. I don't think I cried tears of joy over a game but here it is.

  7. I've only been playing for about a month and I'm still on the free trial, but so far this community has been one of the nicest bunch of people I've met in any game. I've never felt like a community has actually welcomed in new players.

Thank you guys, you really do deserve the award.

  9. I bought FFXIV at the end of ARR, but my computer's video card broke shortly afterwards, keeping me from playing. 2 years and a full computer upgrade later and I came back at the end of Heavensward. My friends were all so excited and positive about the game, and I had seen the Speaker's Corner documentaries and the incredible End of an Era cinematic, and wanted to be part of this incredible-seeming world… but also, I was afraid of doing dungeons and group MMO things. I'd spent years in WoW, and had a lot of bad memories of bad dungeon parties.

My first run through Sastasha was as a tank and I was TERRIFIED. I let everyone know, and the whole way through, everyone was very positive and helpful and encouraging… it was such a rush! Such a fun time! And further encounters were the same. When I was playing Thaumaturge badly, someone gave me some gentle tips on how to do it better. When I picked up healing, people were still great. I went from someone that hated doing party content to someone that just LOVES running dungeons and teaming up with others to help THEM out, now that I'm the veteran and they're the newbie. It's just all so POSITIVE.

  10. Now if they would just invest enough into server space that everyone in game could have a house to play around with which let's be honest is true end game rather than only having enough houses for literally 0.51% of the players which has been a constant problem for multiple years then perhaps I would be cheering them on. This is FFXIV 'S biggest failure and players need to make them abundantly clear that pay 100% of a sub fee should include 100% of the gameplay experience. This is unforgivable that they have let this go on so long.

  11. "welcoming you" i dont remember welcoming you. Jokes aside, community is top notch in ffxiv. Positivity massively out weights toxic a-holes. What i love about ffxiv community is that i can go around, just wave at ppl and they way back and that i can just play with them with just emotes. So far in my 6,5yrs of playing, i have yet to encounter anyone who acts negatively to just random waves and emote play. Not to mention most big "cities" have bards playing songs and people having fun. And in dungeons if you mess up, you dont get instantly kicked or berated. Also you can strike random convos with ppl too.

  12. I started to play ffxiv in October just for the sake of it, a big part of the game was free anyway so why not? I couldn't bring myself to play League anymore, and went on playing a lot of different games, trying new things, having fun. ffxiv was and still is a great change of pace for me, it definitely deserves those awards, the community is just so welcoming it amazed me and the story really hooked me by the end of ARR, I bought it by the end of HW and it is being a great experience ever since, cant wait to play endwalker, and continue to be part of this great community for many years to come!

  13. I had been a WoW player for years since Vanilla, stayed overnight outside the shop to buy the physical copy when Burning Crusade came to my country.
Long story short, I stopped for a few years after Cataclysm and recently went and try Shadowlands. It was fun at first then slowly, I was reminded why I quit. The grind, if you stopped for awhile you start to lose out in progression.
The toxic players, I went to try Mythic Keys dungeon and got called crappy names even after I told them I'm a returning player. They just told me to "Get Good" before trying Keys or just call you trash and disband.
So, I went to try FF14. This is my 5th month in FF14 and the players here are honestly different. Yes, I have met 1-2 WoW like players but all the rest so far are forgiving and encouraging people. I belive this is due to the Japanese culture and the Dev's monitoring toxic behavior which both are very good influence for a healthy game.
So here I am, now a FF14 player and looking forward to Endwalker next week with all the Warriors of Light!!!

  14. I was in a keeper of the lake run and I caused a will at the last boss, said sorry then got disconnected from the server. When I got back I was, to my suprise still in the group and that they had waited for me to come back. They all said ”welcome back” which also suprised me and when I apolegized for all the delay they said something that actually made me into a crying mess. ”Dont worry mate, we would never finish this run without u”, after so many groups kicking me for small misstakes in wow that was just so heartwarming and I’ve been in love with the game ever since.

  15. I'm honestly extremely new to FF14. Me and a friend decided to get it together because why not we needed something to play. And so far we both have fallen in love with this game.

We both aren't the most social but just seeing people have random conversations mid cutscene or just saying hello at the start and gg at the end made us feel so nice even if we don't talk to others a lot. Then the healers and tanks are complete treasures. We both didn't know what to do much yet they both always adjusted for us being pretty bad dps's for a while. Even gave tips to us.

So I'm hoping to stick around for the ride.

  16. Omg! I just notice something, this is such a nice icing on the cake right before the grandeur expansion of the saga. 🎉🎊

We might not notice it, well..notice or not we witness history although it's not big like other stuff but you get my point. ❤️

  17. I joined FFXIV right as 3.3 was dropping, so I had to catch up a bit (it also helped that I finally had disposable income at this time), but I didn't rush through the MSQ.

FFXIV's community is special to me personally because back then I was a noob at MMOs (this is my first MMO) and me playing other "multiplayer" titles had me ready to get chewed out for simplest of mistakes…it never happened in FFXIV. I never got yelled at in chat back then (I have recently, but that's another story; a funny one).

I made new friends in the first FC I was a part of (I was still shy at the prospect of chatting with other players through text in-game), I will never forget that experience. Yes, I have gone through two different FC's before joining the one I'm in (the other two chose to shutdown due to inactivity; barely any members were getting on).

As time has gone on, I've seen the game become bigger, the players become better, but still welcoming to newer players. I was new in mid-2016…and I needed help at times and I remember one time I was running The Vault as a DRG in HW and one party member said: Hey, DRG…use Heavy Thrust, it'll help your DPS, also use your chaos thrust combo as well, it'll help your DPS even more" …I admit that I was only using the main damage rotation and not the DoT rotation (which I should be doing first anyways) to complement it at the time, but I wasn't chewed out, it was casual.

As time has gone on for me, I've also been helping newer players at times, so that one day, they themselves can help new players (the cycle). Also, a lot of other things have happened, I've seen the community come together in memorial, but also in celebration, and also in times of just having fun.

I never thought I would be so wholly invested in an MMO, but it's not the story, not even the gameplay that keeps me coming back…it's everything else…the players, what you might discover, the experiences of others…not everything is the same, and I love it.

  18. Joined fairly recently, I'd say before the pre-order for Endwalker but I have finished the MSQ including Shadowbringers as this game was like a Christmas present to me since.

One of my friends got me into the game, and I was welcomed into this world I only experienced through the free trial. I didn't really play any other mmo so I can't really compare it to anything else. Joined a nice and welcoming FC which helped me do some dungeons and were so nice. Eventually though, I left that FC for the one my friend was in since it was pretty quiet but I still wish those people the best.

And god the FC change was amazing as well. Through my friend I met so many others who chances are I wouldn't have met otherwise. They've helped me with MSQ raids and trials, given answers to questions, and we even welcomed a friend of my friend into the game by showing up near the elevator in Limsa Lominsa with everyone wearing chicken costumes (except for me, didn't get the costume in time) and dancing as they made their way through before meeting us. Only for the vc me and my friend were in to get flooded with all of the members on and surprise them.

And even excluding the FC, the randos who show up during raids and trials were nice and helpful. Always giving the strategy of how to defeat each boss that stood before us. It made certain dungeons and boss fights way easier to handle instead of walking like a chicken with their head cut off. I'd like to think if the community wasn't so excellent, the game hours would've been much lower for me. I love this community of wacky but extremely helpful individuals, and I hope the game continues to bring all of us together like never before.

  19. Much like you the game means so much to me because it seems that the FF community in particular tends to bring out the best in people which needless to say includes myself. I Find that I am more patient, kind, understanding and tolerant of other players around me so as to not disrupt the harmony that exists and do my part and add to it. Thank you for your channel and for being party of FF 🙂

  20. Well, I started playing the game very recently and I never played a MMO like Final Fantasy, but I have played games like Black Desert and Genshin Impact and these two games do not have PvE content with raids and that kind of shit, so everything was new for me. I guess I was playing with Black Mage, and I registered to Sastasha, but at some point the tank disconnected, and I was expecting to everyone vote to kick him, but everyone was sitting around him, and waiting for the triumphant return. After 30 minutes, he returned and we finished the dungeon, and I will remember this moment forever, because I wasn't expecting that, and that was the first time doing dungeons in any MMO. Sorry for any english mistake.

  22. I have a lot of really great memories within the community but some of my favourites are when I was a new player to an instance, as soon as I let people know that I hadn't done it before they were immediately welcoming and patient with me, giving tips for how tanking works and how to best go about the dungeon.

Another memory I really like was when I was trying to clear Memoria Misera (Extreme) which is a level 80 trial and it was a bit hard to find groups that were willing to take on people who hadn't cleared yet so I made my own party finder and it filled up pretty quickly so it turned out I wasn't the only one struggling to find people. It took us about 3 or 4 hours to finally get the clear and not a single person left the party during all the wipes. After all was said and done we decided to run a few times and everyone stayed until everyone had the gear that they wanted and we all went our separate ways. I was shocked that people were willing to bash their heads in for 4 hours helping some new raiders get through and endgame fight. It honestly left such a mark on me that I'll actually join learning parties that I see on PF just as a way of paying forward the help I got from the more experienced players and I know I'm not the only one who has this mindset.

The community is honestly so nice that you just can't help but want to give back and help the sprouts you see running around, knowing that in turn they'll join the experienced players and help a new generation of sprouts make their way through Eorzea.

  23. I joined the game in the spring of 2019, on the recommendation of friends. I had recently gotten my PS4 Pro, so I started on controller. Honestly, I am not the world's best tank, and a bad first run in Snowcloak really wasn't helped by a healer being severely PA and not offering helpful advice. But beyond that? The community's been very understanding and supportive of not-so-great players like me, and I am grateful for that. I'm especially grateful for the content creators who help show me what to do – and what NOT to do (thank you, NEST and JoCat) – in order to be a better tank.

Also, this game has just been an anchor of sanity for me every since the start of the pandemic. It felt comforting to know that I can still connect with my friends thru the game, be able to rant about story, discuss crazy silly things with them while gathering in the Firmament, or sobbing on Discord together while playing 5.3 MSQ on Patch Day. It's helped me stay positive in RL, too. The lessons that the game teaches about kindness, enduring thru tough times and doing what you can to help leave a brighter future for those who walk after… It's why I'm still positive despite working in a soul-sucking job at a gas station. Thank you, everyone, for helping me to stay sane and positive for the past two+ years.

  24. I kinda play even multiplayer games as a relatively single player experience and the game is very much all about that while also going " alright, you gotta team up with people now ". That initial need to dungeon brought back WoW anxiety, but when I did my first MSQ dungeon and upon saying "Hello, I'm new" I get welcomed to the game by the others and the Tank even said " let me know if I need to slow down for you ".
Since then I've finished the MSQ, leveled multiple combat Jobs to 80 and even made a bunch of friends beyond the IRL ones I have playing the game. Most of them were from hanging around in town or the Ishgardian Restoration FETEs, not even any combat content! It's a special game with a special community in it and it made me love the MMO again.

  25. Well, I am a lone wolf. My wife recently returned to the game, I got busy at work, then got covid and my little FC almost disbanded. Alone and all, I never say no when it comes to helping anyone who needs something I can do, be a rez, an item that needs to be crafted for a quest, mats to be gathered, questions that need answer. I am that lonely hermit that no one cares about, but is always there for anyone. That's what I like of my character, he is a roegadyn and he looks aged and serious; but he is a nice guy. He is just like me in real life (not that I am tall at all), a lonely guy that likes helping others.

  26. Community wise, it’s the dungeons lol. A lot of people shared their feelings towards it and I can see why. Every time I had to sit through the cutscenes because I wanted to see, people waited for me. The one time they didn’t… the person quickly apologized since they didn’t see I was watching. When I didn’t know something, they were quick to explain. But perhaps what was the absolute best run I’ve ever been was in the hard mode palace. None of us knew the place and we were new to all the fights. We were laughing on the wipes and we tried to solve the puzzle on our own. We learned from our wipes and shared that knowledge with the group. We wiped 9 times, but we all persevere and pushed forward. In the end, we beat the dungeon. It was awesome!

As a steamer, man… it was a welcoming site. Last night’s stream, I got raided twice and they were very supportive when I played. No one spoiled anything and when I had to apologize on me organizing my items for the glamours, no one showed any signs of negativity. It felt really nice!
