NFTs in FFXIV? Asmongold OUTRAGED by Square Enix Plan

Asmongold reacts to a New Year’s letter from FFXIV developer Square Enix, specifically from the president of the company Yosuke Matsuda. President’s 2022 Resolution is to expand into the “metaverse” and perhaps INTRODUCE NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and Blockchain into their games such as Final Fantasy 14! Asmongold is outraged by people’s naivety and wants to WARN YOU on the dangers of NFTs and get-rich-quick schemes as someone who, as it turns out, used to scam people himself. Will this ruin one of the best MMO? Is this just a passing trend or are NFTs in games here to stay?

  1. I really hope this NFT bullshit is just the new thing that greedy companies are trying to show down our throats to make more money on top of all the other microtransaction bullshit that is now the norm and its going to die and hopefully gets banned like lootboxes are in Belgium

  2. Why does anyone care about garbage art in legendarily idiotic formats?
Only the complete degenerates who buy them will suffer and I LOVE that they will. It honestly brings me bliss….

  3. i;m surprised that out of all the people on this world, this lifestyle gamer doesn't understand the value of nfts. it's catching on whether we like it or not, and guess what? gamers are in the most perfect position to make life changing money with metaverse investing.

  4. YoshiP wont allow NFTs into ff14, its his baby and he does so much for square enix that i doubt he would be forced to either. If YoshiP ever falls to the darkside, it'll be a sad day for gaming since hes one of the most caring leaders in game development. if he manages to fall i can imagine everyone else would too.

  5. People get very caught up in NFTs and making a ton of money. It's not some weird fine art thing going on with video games. If a virtual item is associated with an NFT on a public blockchain, then that virtual item can change hands. It doesn't even have to be for a lot of money or any money. It could be a trade between players on a marketplace for some item in Game A for an item in Game B. Overall, this should be a good thing for the consumer if these NFTs open up as tradable outside of their respective games. That's a big if, of course, but that is the promise of the technology.

Without NFTs, it's just people buying virtual items stuck in a game, where generally you have to sell your entire account to off load. That's what EA et al have been doing for ten years now with in-game purchases, and consumers slobber that up as it is. There's at least potential with external trading with the adoption of NFTs.

  6. but we ARE making money off nft and metaverse. i made more money flipping nft in 2 months than i have ever made playing any video game, streaming and trading crypto. the opportunity is insane, whether u believe in it or not, there is humongous amount of money to be made.

  7. The letter says nothing about NFTs in FFXIV. I agree that this letter is unsettling. I agree that we should take this as a warning sign. I also agree that an executive would see FFXIV as a good place to put NFTs in. But we shouldn't use assumptions as base for criticism. If you look at the title of this video, at the description of the video and at the thumbnail of this video, you'd think NFTs are coming to FFXIV tomorrow.
