  1. I had the same feeling about how "corporate" it feels. I've never played WoW before, but when I saw the trailer, I honestly thought it was really cool and very well done.

And then after the trailer, the devs started talking and giving themselves a pat on the back. It felt weird all of a sudden. They kept talking about what's really cool about what they did…and then they kept praising themselves. Idk. It feels too scripted, too self-pandering. Idk if it's because of the format of the update like Blizzard interviewing Blizzard, but that felt weird.

  2. The format they chose with devs talking to each other was a mistake. It looks like they made this bubble around them to circle jerk while symbolically maintaining distance from the audience. You're absolutely right about emulating live letter instead. They should have looked at dead center to the camera and address everything to the remaining royal fans they have. So, when they apologize it will mean more rather than looking like admitting a small mistake.

  3. But the DUCKS dude the new WATER oh and new cinematic!!!!!

Btw what was the purpose of the talk? No date, no system explanations, no raid m+ pvp(reason why ppl play WOW)its basically stop the ship sinking, just look when was this announcement on FFXIV(check Bellular tweet on how people asked Yoship on 6.1 release-mid April ) and GW2 releases.
P.S: Heavensward was trending yesterday and now we know why

  4. They also did a fuck load of spoiling their own game and patting themselves on the back for a job well done over an expansion they literally just announced… meanwhile their company has been a literal inferno for months and their prized game is hemorrhaging players. Out of touch, narcissistic, egomaniacal corpo speak. Preached they listened to the community in there but never once offered an apology or any admission of fault.

  5. Was having a chat with a friend about Dragonflight earlier today and as I said to him: the only way WoW could possibly be salvaged for me is by completely scrapping everything and rebuilding because everything is so isolated from each other and self-contained. Like the Garrisons, the Farm from MoP, Reforging which didn't even last two expansions, Transmog which has ridiculous limitations, even phasing was done ass-backwards.
Hell, most of the expansions are completely superfluous now, in contrast to FFXIV where everything is built off of prior storyline beats, with minor characters becoming major plot points later on – Arenvald comes to mind specifically, since he started off as just a random dude chilling in the Waking Sands between missions, that you don't even need to interact with.

  6. Yeah I didn't feel addressed at all. There was literally nothing for me that could've brought me to buy that expansion. I felt completely disconnected, because all they did was talk and not show anything.

  7. yep, WoW players brainwashed to a degree. Its sick, they already forgot about the SCUMMY shit that blizzard has done. just going to point and laugh when they get this dogshit expansion.

  8. They don't need to copy Yoshi-P, they can instead copy Jeff Kaplan when he was at the helm of Overwatch.

The main thing those two directors have over current Blizzard devs is that they were really passionate about their respective games. Current dev update sounds more scripted because there isn't that love and belief in their own work.

  9. The entire thing came off as an entire hour of self-fellating each other. Virtually no humility or legitimate apology for disappointing the playerbase, as if they did nothing wrong.

  10. I didnt watch anyone talking about the new expansion yet… just not interested in their attempt to hype up their fans, old and new ones. Its just the same as BfA and Shadowlands, if you ask me: the hype is real, everything is perfect. I remember the vibes during Shadowlands Alpha and Beta, everyone had a blast, waiting for next bit of information to be excited about. This wont be any different. The zones look gorgeous, as they always do (Shadowlands' and BfA's design was awesome, too), we dont expect any less, the new class or race is a dragon! Now, how cool is that? Revamping systems? Be my guest. Btw, they said the same about Shadowlands, that old beloved talants would have a come back, that class identity would return and all that… And Alexstraza looks like a matron now… awesome… and I'm female, just so you know…

As for the presentation… they dont even have to look as far as Japan to see how good communication between a game studio and their fans can work, just look to your neighbors: ArenaNet and their GW2 team do great work promoting their stuff – now at least. Wasnt always like that but they seem to get the hang of it this past year or two (plus changes in the company, and leadership that finaly realises what a gem they have). Their third expantion is by all accounts a huge success. I mean… just show us people. Real, normal talking people. And not actors caked in make-up playing an act from a script.

  11. I used to play WoW, I used to love WoW. So I intentionally avoid looking at or watching anything related to WoW after Mists of Panderia. Yes I saw the trailer for Shadowlands and a few small snippets of this or that, I know about all the races added since I quit at the end of Cataclysm, I know about some of the mounts, I'm aware of the current monetisation system and in game cash shop. I have seen snippets of footage of the game, seen the burning of the big elf tree, the death of the human king and the rise of the boy prince to an absolute chad as well as how the Horde went from cool to wot, seriously the narrative is confusing. But I don't really understand much of it apart from the familiar art style I grew up with.

    This is intentional.

I do not want to know what Blizzard has done with the game, I can't even remember the names of the expansions after Mists without looking them up. At the time Mists came out I had already moved on, first to SWTOR, then GW2 then I looked around for years till finally settling on FFXIV roughly 5 years ago, which is interesting because I quit WoW after 5 years and I haven't quit FFXIV and FFXIV has had more content added to the game in the 5 years I've played it than was added to WoW in the 5 years I played that game, go figure. And using the time period is no excuse because plenty of MMOs which released before WoW had more content added to it in that span of time than WoW did and plenty have since. So that was a failure on Blizzard alone.

Long story Short. I have very fond memories of WoW when I played it, I have photographic memory, so I can remember everything in vivid detail. Which is why I actively avoid looking at anything from or to do with WoW on the pure basis that I don't want my good memories of the game being corrupted by what Blizzard has done to it. Of what little I have seen was enough to make me upset, to see the full scope of it would likely break me. Now FFXIV is far from a perfect game, that much I'll tell anyone, I am not SE fanboi and I am very keenly aware of SE's countless mistakes.

The difference between Blizzard and SE is: Blizzard doesn't make mistakes, they make intentionally greedy malicious decisions.

Where in SE is only guilty of drinking their own brand of cool-aid with a blindfold on and getting confused when they get yelled at for it, like most corporations.
