First
I 100% agree
Yeah. I feel like the progression system is showing it's age. It's nice that they made the books better and moved the chest to floor 3. But… some of the changes are weird.
For example they moved to 1 chest from 2 chest. But there is still penalty for taking people who already cleared but they tried to hide that by deleting the 2nd chest.
I would like to also see leveling crafters more streamlined? I am running out of things to do so I am casually leveling crafters and spamming Firmament turn ins is not fun.
So going to play Blue Protocol until Bandai Namco bops me.
There is a xiv free trial slip in every xvi box… This game about to blow up again.
The they donât care about player retention is BS. They care theyâre not going to outright say it.
WoW is designed to keep you mazed and only play that one game, ffxiv is designed to play the content of that current cycle, go away play other games and come back next content patch. Both have their positives and negatives but for me FFxiv style is far better in respecting my time, I can play other games and not have that fomo feeling looming over me that I'm not max gear grinding from my mmo.
It feels like for the last year FFXIV was the unwanted child who worked part time jobs while going to community school to pay for FFXVI's student loan đ„Č.
In ff14 I dont have do to anything besides raiding if I want to raid, aside from a 15 minute roulette for tomes. In wow, it feels like I am forced to do M+ over and over and over and over, and that type of content is just a miserable experience to heal (my main role), especially without a group of guildies. Also I gotta do some monotonous rep farm so I can get tokens to craft more gear, and then do that on all of my toons if I want to play more than 1 class.
I hate gearing, If I never had to get gear, that would be the prefect game for me. The less I have to do the better. It is time wasted to me, it isn't fun. It's either braindead and long (rep farm), or incredibly frustrating, feeling unfair (m+)
I hope Arthars thoughts do not catch on with the majority of the playerbase, I don't want ff14 to turn into a game I feel forced to play every day in order to raid like I felt playing wow. I am happy to do what I want to do, then leave until more content I want to play is added. 3 hours a day, 3 hours a week fits the majority of adults lives, not streamers.
Source: I got week 1 aotc on preservation via pugging with no previous wow raid experience. I gave the game a fair shake, and then moved on. Not the only issues I have with the game (overuse and dev reliance on addons to make up for poor mechanic communication), but I would call the gearing good for "I am a streamer and need something to do 24/7", not good for the average person that values the quality of time spent.
I really agree to this. XIV really needs more ways to obtain gears, more gearing options and most importantly, more horizontal progression for PvE.
During shadowbringers we atleast had bozja and zadnor. During stormblood we atleast we had eureka`s. Endwalker…… jack shit for replay.
Yeah they are also still using the "oh you can take a break and come back later" mentality. It's 2023 just give us a reason to play the game more, not to pause it.
The main reason I still like ff more than wow is the fact that the skill effects and enemies abilities are so pretty, wow's are so fucking ugly the feedback for using skills on most classes is almost none
When did Yoshi P say 7.0 would feel like a new game? Not saying I donât believe you but I donât remember him saying that
Thanks for this video. I hope the devs see this and think about this. I quit WoW during Shadowlands because I got bored and started FF14. I loved to raid there too but after clearing all ultimates and EW raidtiers and getting BiS on characters over and over again, this game really has no horizontal progression, especially in terms of gear. In WoW gear has always been relevant for content and always feels good to upgrade. Systems havent been perfect but at least there was something to do. In FF I couldnt care less about gear except I want the glam. WoW still had PvP but FF pvp is a fucking joke and I cant take it seriously and the simple reason why that is, is just the snapshotting bullshit with the serverticks; not even the basic class design.
I am completely burn out from raiding in general and previous tier I did it for the glamour but this time around its not as flashy and I just drop the whole thing and never bothered lol
i really hope that the way endwalker turned out was because the dev team was focused on 16 cause this expansion feels really bland tbh compared to shadowbringers alot of weird design choices throughout this expansion hopefully 7.0 will really bring about big changes cause alot of stuff in this game feels dated
I'm kinda happy how simple FF is currently. I can log in for raid and do nothing else in the game and be fine. if I feel like it, I do some hunts or roulettes for tomestones, but otherwise I just log in to raid and have fun and don't do anything else outside of it. ^^
Honestly this is the only good word I've heard about Dragonflight currently, especially over FFXIV. I can't say I enjoy WoW nearly as much as I used to though.
I have to say Guild Wars 2 has some of my favorite gearing ever, probably because your gear is relevant no matter how long you're away from the game and it's so easy to get into any content in the game.
people really love to piss on mmo, no matter what.
we did it in wow, now its XIV time.
can't wait to GW2 become relevant to we piss on them too.
Totally agree
This is usually the line where MMOs find themselves stuck between the differing notions : Make it grindy and people cry about it for being grindy, make it extremely casual and people find no meaningful activity to waste their time on.
Compared to most MMOs out there, FF14's content does indeed feel a little too stretched for what it's worth doing. But that doesn't mean grindy to keep players busy is a good thing.
Not quite sure "everyone went back to wow" when retail numbers in whole have been worse than Shadowlands. Most people subbed to WoW are actually playing Classic! XIV had a typical post expansion drop but the lucky bancho survey last month showed that XIVs churn is basically keeping a 80% retention form EW's launch peak, which is INSANE. Your estimate that it won't hit a new peak is a little pessimistic given this data, I think – there's a reason regions are getting whole new DCs this summer in preparation for the new expansion and the upcoming popularity of XVI is likely to give it another boost as well.
I think a lot of old xiv players like yourself are feeling bored with the lack of new content, but the game is getting a lot of attention from new trials and subs, and for them there is a LOT of content to get through. Despite all this I do agree with you that I hope they mix it up in 7.0, because changes are always interesting and fun in an mmo as is learning to adapt to a new playstyle (I do also hope they get rid of the 2m burst window meta). But despite all that, the game is doing very very well, numbers wise.
I hope more people realize this and start to demand for improvements
Wish current books can be traded for earlier savage pieces in some sort of exchange system downward…just for making glamming more fun.
Been saying you can't give another 650 or 660 gear worth working towards with the amount of content avenues this game has other than raiding.
FFXIV gearing is simply better than WoW. In FFXIV if I gear my Sage… my White Mage, Scholar and Astrologian are geared!!! In WoW if I gear my Resto Shaman….um I need to level and then separately grind out gear on my Resto Druid, Holy Priest, Disc Priest, MistWeaver Monk oh yeah and that ugly ass dragon thingy. I just quit WoW last week and came back to FFXIV. I've played WoW since 2008 and will miss some of it, but not the gear grind that's for sure.
