Video isnât working
Wish they would add more features for gposing.
Video works!
I like the Idea, i have tried Guild Wars 2 recently and they are working on something similiar. Once you hit 80 you can also pick and choose which storystep you wanna play or skip a expansion
I think this solo & multiplayer pathing really is the way to suit everyones taste.
I think Duty Support system is absolutely terrible and it is one of the worst features in the whole game in its current state. I really hated it because it was obvious they had to make the MSQ and Dungeons around that system where you know if there is a dungeon coming you know a lot of scions will be joining soon so they can fill all the missing roles even if it feels forced having them around. You could feel that especially in Endwalker when you are going for an adventure with certain scion but since a dungeon is coming you know soon all the unnecessary other scions will join and just ruin what could have been a cool story. Won't even mention the disaster which was the 8 man Duty Support, that was the worst instance experience ever with those terrible AI NPCs. Dungeon designed around AI NPCs are really boring as well. I found it really disappointing because there is sucha easy fix to this problem, just have random NPC soldiers join you. It would make more sense for them to appear from nowhere than having Scions forced into the story.
I prefer solo and do most of my content when able as solo. I'll grab groups like Abyssos if I like the glowy armor and I do A rank hunts in huge groups for tomes. The rest..gimme solo đ
Now thereâs a tittle full of contradictions. Itâs our gamer reality, but it still feels odd to me at times, to have online games where you can spend most of the time playing by yourself. Not necessarily alone mind. You still have your friends and fellow players, your FC and your discord. Iâve become quite accustomed to this, somewhat recent, game style. And in reality, Iâm grateful for it. I can only speak for my own experience, but in the old days, while working full time, it often meant I couldnât advance in the game because there was no one available to help, or there were no groups being made. Weekends were always too short! đ So thank you, to Naoki Yoshida and all other game developers, that made life easier for so many of us. â€ïž
Haha, so that's where that Zenos Chicken Joke came from. Lets hope they won't go dark humor and add a Chickenburger for next Food Tier, giving it flavor Text "reminds you of a Friend" or something
If you save the world itâs not as odd to receive a part of it as it would be without any sense of achievement I guess, I like how FF XIV npcs slowly end up recognising and respecting the WoL for their fated (MSQ plot armor) deeds, it is a great tool for immersion imo
Could have imagined something similar if the WoL ended up being adopted into House Fortemps in heavensward, becoming official royaltyâŠ. if there wasnât a complete redistribution of power in the end
I don't mind doing dungeons with other players, but I hate doing trials/raids with people. I am currently stuck on the 6.2 MSQ because I refuse to do the trial with people. Why would they come out with a new MSQ trial and not allow us to use the NPC's to do it right from the start. I know some will say because of "Lore" reasons, using the crystal to summon other "Warriors of light". But they still could've made them NPC's.
A couple people I've talked to, including one larger mmo-based channel, have had this weird obsession with trying to prove that ff14 is somehow not an mmo because you can play solo through the msq. But I think this entire article proves that wrong. It's simply an evolution of the basic ideas of an mmo to be able to cater to all types of players, and slowly but surely try to bring people into interacting with others on a large scale. Yoshi P is looking at an entire spectrum of players and trying his best to have ways everyone can enjoy the content. He deserves immense respect for it.
I have several friends who do not play mmo's due to severe anxiety disorders, and the fear of being forced to play content with other players and the negativity and judgment associated with such content. Since the implementation of the duty support system, I was able to convince a couple of them to try out the game now, since they can mostly complete the trial period with very few instances of having to group up, and of course offering to accompany them on their trials. These people love a good story, and I know they will fall in love with FFXIV, as I have, but that barrier of forced group content has kept them out. I agree with Yoshi P that once my friends get comfortable with the game and its systems, they may be more willing to try group content later on. Gaming today is seen as super competitive and stressful (Race to World First, e-sports, etc being the main headlines in gaming these days), and for people who aren't as familiar with it, it is a daunting prospect to try a new game out, whether or not they have an anxiety disorder. Imho, I think this will be a great way to bring new people to the genre and the FF world, in a slower, more solo-friendly way, while exposing them to the world of people that play it, realizing eventually that the players are not monsters to fear (most of the time) but just other people who enjoy the game too.
Iâve been playing solo since around Stormblood. I really dig all the new additions for players like me. I love the game so much and it would be extremely restrictive if I had to fully engage with people in order to clear content. Obviously I donât do extremes or ultimates, but Iâm fine with that considering how much more there is to do.
id hate to admit it but i play mostly solo and have used both the trust system/duty system alot since it has been released. i like being able to do dungeons with out the headf*cks of other players when im not having a really good day. i find it easier to learn mechanics too. i have decided to make an alt cause my main is nearly all 90s except blu mage. i have been mostly solo quing through duty finder on my level 30ish mara/warrior. its been hell as of late to level specially the times when i am up (aussie that plays mostly midnight and early morning on OCE servers). other ppl wish to rush the dungeons even tho i am a "sprout" on that toon and DPS pull adds and stuff then expect me to tank it for them. im getting to the point of making a macro saying "sorry im still learning how to tank. please allow me to do my job and if you hit it you tank it. thanks" and i probably would get reported under the "toxic behavior" for it.
Phil Spencer better get this game on Xbox. The game finally finished ARR story arc.
Anxiety combined with many a story of party member rage (which isn't common but does happen) produces a situation where people just don't want to connect with people and honestly, I can't blame them. Add to that alllllll that old storyline content can be tough to do if you're not part of a population push through the content.
However, one of the biggest issues with solo-leveling friendly mmo's is they don't provide a way to find people you want to do content with. You hit level cap and boom, can't do anything solo anymore and I hope you made friends!! It'll be interesting to see how SE addresses this.
I mean.. we already have the Gestahl minion, so a Zenos chicken minion isn't actually farfetched at this point.
I've gone through MSQ 3x by now specifically HW and I'm NGL my 3rd time was far more immersive and fun simply because I was playing with the NPC whom I was adventuring with, Ysayle Estinien and Alphinaud. It was unfortunate because once I reach Sharlyan Library the NPC parties hadnt caught up yet, that's when I stopped caring for the story a much and just wanted to get it over with. (My first run I enjoyed myself but as a sprout was lost and wanted to play with others except it was difficult to find a good FC, my second time is when I understood the story then the first time and I had a really good time with the FC I was in) By the 3rd it felt like I could experience the story as it should be told, it felt real to the NPCs and the WoL. Queue with players kinda kills that. So yes this was a very good addition but I wish they used familiar faces to party up with instead of 2 mainline npc and one random adventure.
Hm, while I admit that I was a bit apprehensive about group contact when I first started playing mmos, I really hope the devs somehow get some ideas on how to encourage players playing together instead of enabling solo gameplay in any aspect OTHER than the MSQ.
I do think that the trust system can be nice from a story perspective, sometimes it makes sense to be able to do the dungeons with the other main cast, however the dungeons in FF14 are also really linear and samey already – I'd rather they move away from that kind of design instead of further simplyfing some of them to enable trust support. I suppose If they focus the more interesting and varied content on variant dungeons that could be a solution for that, here's hoping those will turn out fun.
As long as the solo-play keeps to being able to experience the MSQ I honestly think it's a smart idea – a lot of Final Fantasy fans will be able to enjoy the story this way and square can rake in the money… đ But everything else shouldn't move into that direction, I beg you YoshiP! MMOs are already sinking into the mud, I fell like most new mmos coming out recently are pretty much solo play around each other in the same world, what's the point. Might as well make it a solo player game and invest the server cost savings into making a better game.
In truth not every game genre is for every player. You can't have them all!
Without the trust/duty support system I wouldnât be playing ffxiv right now. I have general anxiety/social anxiety and not being able to see peopleâs faces or hear their voices (not their charactersâ) is actually making it worse. To make the matter worse Iâm just ..really REALLY bad at games. I postponed doing some msq trials/dungeons for WEEKS because I was too nervous, my hands shaking and sweating and it prevented me from fully enjoying the game. But because of duty support and tons of other more subtle support systems in game, I managed to play the game at my own pace, and ultimately progressed too far and got too involved in the story to quit. At which point it forced me to interact with the people in my FC and THEY are the ones who offered to help and get me to do all the dungeons/trials/raids with them. Tonight I just did tons of roulettes with my friend in the fc and I truly had fun, and I used to avoid the duty finder window like a plague. So yeah, what YoshiP and the team are trying to do, it works.
