I'm not going to defend people purchasing stuff off RMT services, but perhaps there would be less demand for it if the prices on the MogStation weren't so stupid. $10 to redo your character (or to change your hairstyle if Hrothgar,) $15-25 for glam that don't even look as good as in-game gear and is often gender-locked, one-pieces or undyable, $50 for a 8-seater mount in a game that's increasingly solo, etc. The only things I feel are a good deal are past years' seasonal.
There's someone in our guild who we're pretty sure does RMT. We can't prove it but how she gets her funds and how she claims she gets her funds are…very suspect. She's suddenly started bringing all of her alts (she has MANY on different servers) all over to ours recently and we just have no idea why. She doesn't have access to our guild bank so we're not concerned about her account getting hacked and screwing us over but we've all got our eye on her. Mostly because if she is indeed doing RMT we want to mass report it. But we're not going to do it unless we have proof of course but man it makes me nervous lol.
The only reason why we suspect her is because she used to ask for help transferring gil over between her alts. I'm talking millions of gil at least twice a week. Once the RMT stuff started getting more traction again she suddenly stopped.
I'm not sure why they can't keep a record of 1-time use items on the user's mogstation account, so I can use this new no-code system to gift my girlfriend birthday/ holiday gifts. Most of her xmas the list is mogstation stuff and I can't buy any of it for her now.
So they want to punish RMT players by punishing the entire playerbase……
"this will reduce their sales" "this won't stop RMT completely"
I get that this sucks in some ways as an end user but t's not so simple as netting them less money in sales, and just because you can't stop fraud/RMT doesn't mean it's better to just do nothing. Chargebacks are extremely costly in both time and money. Even if you "win" a chargeback case, you are on the hook for fees, these might get passed on to the customer in some cases but 99% of the time the business is the one paying the fees and losing the revenue on top of it. There are ways these can be handled without as much impact in fees etc. but it's a really tight timeline, which they probably aren't making if they're getting drowned in chargebacks just because they don't have enough staff. Unless a huge portion of their legitimate sales are coming in ways like this, which they almost definitely aren't, it's still a net positive even just from a financial perspective. And from a less financial standpoint, reducing the amount of fraud and adding ways to deal with it automatically or in policy frees up a huge amount of work they are basically doing on behalf of people who have nothing but malicious intentions.
t. work in an extremely fraud prevalent area and have to deal with this horseshit all the time
Just another reason I'm leaving ff14. Story is directionless, too slow on content, added some corny island instead of fixing housing and glam system.
I had that change credit card suspension some time ago. The hassle was enormous: 3 business days to get it fixed with a full update on my profile. Given that their system is old and badly designed I got lucky to have a very nice customer service person helping me out. I know how rare it is to get these people to actually help you instead of reading (and rereading) the same standard script.
Who even needs to buy money In this game.
Gil is useless in this game if you don't like rping lmao
That sucks did they remove codes for the story skips? I used to buy them in bulk for later use when they were at discount.
Just give away visa gift cards.
It's about fucking time. It's too late to get rid of it entirely though, but at least there is hope something will be done. Watching the same accounts gain tens of millions of gil per day is getting a bit old.
There’s an easy way to fix this for good but crafters and gatherers might hate it step 1 buff all Gil rewards insanely high step 2 make most of the mogstation items sellable on the mb and trade able ingame step 2 add a system like phantasy star online 2 new genesis alliance quests but call them free company quests and the top three fcs each get tin pieces worth 20 million for rank 1 15 million for rank 2 and consolidation prize of 10 million dropping the value of Gil will tank the economy but will also massively drop rmt companies and bots profits by a lot
Yes, obviously if the company cannot do payments they have to react. However, I have never seen more old fashioned payment systems than the one square has, it is literally fresh from 90's. So if that payment system and gifting with codes instead of checking things across accounts like most games do are not fixed, probably they need to shut the gifting down. However for a multi-million-yen company having more paying customers than ever before, I might have put some effort into fixing those systems, and just not shutting gifting down at the start of holiday season.
So the border was wide open and a large portion of WoW players came across that border bringing all their crime and shenanigans to a much nicer, well organized population, expounding what used to be a small problem into a major problem? Huh…
I like the that core issue is masked as “cuz game balance” like just say you want your money it’s fine and id actually respect them for being honest
I think that tweet about how those companies work at a higher level seems legit, without doing any cursory research. The logic there tracks, and explains a lot as to why the seemingly insane response.
One of my favorite things when talking about rmt is everyone going ermahgerd rmt? who where what’s happening no way dats bad! like people just pretend that these things exist without a market to fuel them. buying gil is easy and cheap and a huge amount of people do. the ffxiv community is especially good are feigning ignorance in regard to… well… everything really so it’s not that surprising.
i wonder how many people white knighting and virtue signaling have bought gil, cheap mounts, ultimate clears, etc
Wow so instead of supporting the game I'm better off just gifting my FC mates other prizes or just straight up money during events. Punish all of us cause the game has RMT problems, that is ridiculous and so anti-consumer. I'd rather suffer the RMT problems then deal with a change like this.
I 100% get why SE has done what they've done and you can pretty much guarantee payment processor putting their metaphorical foot down is a super likely reason.
I hate to bring up Blizzard but the way they stopped their own gold-selling debacle was to sell gold themselves and remove gift codes from the equation entirely, fully integrating their shop with the WoW client. (see also: how they dealt with illegal 3rd party 'classic' servers – they made their own and while they could always do so they then have every illegal server in creation shut down.) The root of the problem is that this will never go away until RMT somehow becomes nearly impossible and/or no longer sensible as a business.
There are certain FFXIV resource sites I wont even use because they have banner ads for RMT sites. Most of the big important sites like Gamerescape and Garlandtools dont have them, but there's one site that frequently pops up when I'm looking for fishing info that has them and it drives me crazy lol
The crackdown makes sense for sure given this context.
Buy Gil…..buy your savage clears….it literally doesn’t affect my gameplay whatsoever
