Wow I just realized I've made it full circle of the ffxiv events, I've officially been playing ffxiv for 1 year!
I'm guessing "Prickly Plaint" is basically a combination of "comPlaint" and the fact that a cactaur is a "Prickly Plant" but that's just my take.
I have no idea if or when I'll ever use the emotes, but I still really like them for some reason. I hope that the emotes are a little animated, not only with the sparkles but also with some "jazz hands" for the emote users.
