  1. Setting up ffxiv was extremely difficult and I ended up purchasing the game 3 times. Another friend couldn't get the 1 time email access to work for a week also. Extremely frustrating to sort that out

  2. you picked black mage which is a very deliberate class that requires knowledge of when to stand still in a circle to buff dps. go for a more mobile class like lancer/dragoon. sounds like you would enjoy that more. that being said, if you don't enjoy story based theme park mmos, this isn't the game for you and that's okay.

  3. you can do mini-games in the golden Chaucer. you can also check party finder for social content if you just feel like chilling. I understand your take on not wanting to spend 100 hours before the game gets fun. I did ARR with 4 of my friends so we were chilling in vc while playing. playing it solo through ARR can be boring ngl.

  4. I played Final Fantasy on the NES as a kid and never enjoyed the series. I was one of the only employees at the GameStop district I worked in that found them boring and uninteresting.

  5. Let me make one thing really clear that I don't think I did in the video: I will absolutely try to get into this game in good faith as I love MMOs and on a base level I love the music and atmospheres of FF14. I have since learned that there ARE minigames and other things to do with friends at low level, but I don't think that mitigates any point made in the video. A new player jumping in shouldn't have to rely on knowing another player to show them these things, and still shouldn't have to sift through so many bland hours to get to the fun hours.

Is FF14 Trash? Almost definitely not, at an honest level I am merely another scummy clickbai youtuber. Is the new player experience in FF14 trash? I think it's safe to say it needs work, and the number of people who have said how it's taken them 4-5 times to try to get into Ff14 speaks volumes more than my video ever could.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk, see you in Eorzea 😎

  6. Coming from ESO to ff14 felt really jarring. The lack of voice acting, the massive wall of text speaking with npcs, how slow the combat was (at least at the beginning). Just deleted it in the end.

  7. Ive been playing GW2 since beta, and GW1 before that. So im kind of a die-hard GW fanboy…
But a friend talked me into trying FF14. I still haven't reinstalled it after the free trial they had (got as far as the trial would let me), for roughly the same reasons, plus 2.5s skill global cooldowns.
Not my cup of tea, but I can see why people enjoy it. I've seen the raids, they look epic. I love the holey trinity gameplay where everyone has a job (tho gw2 has been getting their act together with this), but can't stand its combat system style of standing still to do anything. I can see how it would appeal to people who enjoy story-based games, or visual novels. But i feel like the people who enjoy it have way too much time on their hands to be able to enjoy it eventually.

  8. Ba ba based review . I work in the morning for 4 hours and afternoon another 6 . I'm not going to play an mmo and grind 200 hours to see if I like it or not . I'm almost dead when I come home and I just want to blast things to death

  9. Honestly, you picked black mage which is not a very mobile job. You should try archer or lancer instead. Heck even a tank class. Really anything besides black mage. You are of course welcome to your opinions and yes, many people dont have that kind of time. I myself only play a few hours a day maybe once or twice a week. MMOs arent for everyone and thats ok? Not every game has to be for every gamer. Its ok if you dont like it. Its ok if people do like it.

  10. I know that everybody is entitled on Their opinion, but 100 hours nah, yes I have work and I casually did the story. I agree yes the base game is a slog to go through and frustrating but if you have the patience to slog it thru and go to the first expansion, it's worth it. Combat wise it really slow early on cuz the game was designed on a player who has 0 exp in MMOs but man once you reach endgame your class gonna get really busy.

  11. The game is built around the story. You seem like the kind of player that skips the story, so yeah you aren't the target audience. As far as the combat, how much you like the combat depends on the class you pick. It sounds like thaumaturge was the option you dislike the most, you should have tried some other classes.

  12. After playing various MMO RPGs its had to sit still while a skill takes 2 seconds to load and you cant do anything during the fight, it just gets boring to me. It's funny because I love the Final Fantasy Series as a whole. As you said it can get more fun and complex of given the time but for me I would get to bored with the combat before I could get there. The only thing that could subvert that is if the story was good.
Over all thats a pretty balanced take appreciate the video!

  13. As someone who absolutely loves FFXIV I have one word… fair. They wanted to make it a story experience in the vein of the final fantasy franchise and locking so much content behind story is becoming a bigger and bigger hurtle over time and severely damaging the new player experience. I know there's vritrol towards people who skip story or buy the story/level skips, but its hard to blame them. Its enough that the producer actually discussed making the most recent patch a potential new starting point for players in the future, and they've introduced an in game character/lore glossary for that purpose. OOPS!

It has most of the things you asked ironically. All fun if not entirely well implemented though. Minigames with friends, level sync, roulettes, and Palace of the Dead definitely do some lifting for playing with friends. You start unlocking the multiplayer content around 17. Condolences for the time spent on those first 15 levels though.

  14. I don't feel like you even gave it a chance like. Get to level 15-16 (which takes, maybe an hour or two) and DUNGEONS start etc. You realized casters aren't mobile and quit? Maybe this isn't the game for you if you want action combat and can't handle the slow pace at the start. Hope you can find what you're looking for! As an additive, there are tons of minigames and side projects etc. I'd maybe look into some more positive reviews if you really want to give it a shot. Good luck.

  15. Maybe do some research first, kid.

Who jumps into an MMo blind and who expects an MMO to have it's most engaging combat from the beginning.

    2/10 review for decent editing.
    Try again.
